➡️ "Make Yourself" from @incubusTV has always been a go-to album for me on long drives. Funnily enough, I've NEVER ventured further into their body of work! In this video, I react to "Are You In?" (by request) from their album "Morning View" for the first time featuring the smooth, funky bass grooves from original bassist Alex Katunich (known as Dirk Lance). When an Incubus song comes on, I always know the bass will be front-and-center, and this track delivered. I discuss the massive mojo behind the "swung" 16th notes in the bass groove, how Dirk uses chromatic passing tones to roll through the chord progressions, how he arranges the bass line to accommodate each song section, his PHAT warm tone, and how he plays with the tonal center of the bridge chords to add a little tension.
