Your comment about Ryan's 300-400 Hz jogged a memory. They did something kind of interesting when they were recording the bass on this album. As well as recording Ryan's normal bass enclosures, their producer, Dave Bottrill, ran Ryan's bass through one of Greg's Mesa guitar cabinets to help bring out more of that midrange.

Im a dummy bassist, but I'm pretty sure he strums that short set of minor chords with Greg in the chorus. They show it way more in the other "alien" music video they did for this song. Its done in his signature showmanship-y style and he strums it on the neck. Unfortunately that video seems to only be available in like 240p:/ But its my favorite part of the song. I absolutely love jangly, clanky bass tones. Lol. But great analysis and breakdown as always dude! Love yer style! 3rd edit: if you're interested, the channel The Pirate Bass does an incredible cover of this one

My favorite Mudvayne song and the song that got me into the group. I swear Ryan is one of the most underrated bassists in metal/hard rock. Likewise, Ryan and Matt (the drummer) are an underrated rhythm section in the genre as well. Both are very technical and precise. I love Matt’s drum patterns and grooves.

-1 (negative 1) on LD50 is wild. The drums, the bass, vocals, guitar…the whole nine yards. The bass is a major standout for sure…in regards to this track, I’ve always been blown away by how the drums and bass play into one another. Just truly dynamic…it’s really busy but at the same time it fits relaxingly well

Forget to Remember is a great one of their later offerings that was popularized from its presence on the Saw soundtrack. It's from Lost and Found, so the bass isn't mixed as high as I'd like it, but Ryan has some great melodies that really carry the song. Separately, I'd be really interested in hearing you do some more Incubus breakdowns with their original bass player, Dirk Lance aka Alex Katunich! I think he was a big inspiration for all of the people our age.

I listened anyways and and was completely blown away by Ryan's playing style and sound. Been a fan ever since.

One element that I loved in LD50 is the way that the guitar and bass are almost EQd in the same range, so they can harmonize and even trade places in the traditional bass/guitar dynamic. When Ryan slides up the neck, Greg's rhythm guitar still fills out the low end really well. I felt like they lost some of that on their subsequent albums. Greg's guitar lives more in the mid-range, and Ryan more in the lows, post LD50.

So on LD 50 he originally recorded with a 4 string in drop B but would eventually play with a 5 string while having the higher strings still in drop B On The End Of All Things To Come he would bring back that 4 string in drop C And them on Lost and Found and thought the rest of his career he'd have a 5 String or a plethora of 5 Strings in G standard
@1bulletaway
@1bulletaway Ай бұрын
No. LD50 was recorded in drop B and he tuned with the top string down to F. Then they went up to drop C with the top string being G, GCGCF. 4 string being CGCF. There’s a handful of songs on their last album that are even lower, maybe A. But 98% of Mudvayne has been drop C.
