Hello from Vancouver, I finally bit the bullet and purchesd a D-Roc 5 Standard in Vintage burst 2 weeks ago, and I can't stop playing it, I love everything about this bass, including the pickups and quad pickup selector and the neck on tbe D-Roc 5. Standard is to die for. Thank you, Sheldon and the Dingwall team. This won't be my last Dingwall purchase 😊

The clarity and coherence are just insane on these

So distinctive, I can even hear the difference on my phone speaker. A Dingwall is my bass holy grail. And if finances weren't the only thing keeping me from getting one, it would be the Lee Sklar signature Combustion in Ducati White.

Love the selector on my D Roc. It's like 4 basses in one. Ready for a deep-dive into the new Neve preamp though, haven't seen a lot of content on it yet.

"might ruin the mood" - what a small but important phrase man, bass is all about bringing the mood to music

I own the D-roc 5. The completely passive selector does not do anything special - it dampens and phase cancels as all other passive means of pickup selection. I don't say that the bass does not have a clear sound (not bad for a passive instrument at least), I say that the selector has nothing to do with it.

I love my NG3 but I wish that there wasn't such a big volume bump when selecting the bridge+middle option compared to the other ones.
@MaxRyles10 ай бұрын
I asked my local engineer to split my middle pick up to parallel. Solves the output problem and personally i think it makes the mids sound better.
@JonesHess10 ай бұрын
@@MaxRyles thanks! I'll give that a try for sure
@hyperplayability629010 ай бұрын
You could also go for a custom rotary switch with middle and bridge in parallel instead in that configuration Sadly the output thing is just due to science (series wiring has more impedance than parallel)
@EsmeTheBassic10 ай бұрын
I replaced my 4 way with a 6 way switch that added bridge and middle in parallel, as well as an option for neck in parallel with the bridge and middle in series. Highly recommended

I swapped my D roc 5 Quod tone for the NG3 one. Its the perfect tone!! D rocs sound naturally big in the mix anyway. Giving it thew ng3 tones just made it even more versatile

Could you picture Geddy Lee playing a Dingwall OMG! I mean the only active basses I think he played was WAL and Steinberger….. I would take a WAL too but they are so expensive and Dingwall is probably 🇨🇦 answer to the 🇬🇧 WAL. My future bass collection: 1. Dingwall- probably JT signature 2. Tony Franklin Fretless Jazz I might sell my Geddy Lee Jazz, and my Rickenbacker 4003 once I get my Dingwall, I’ll definitely keep my Fender Jazz American standard though. I’ve played a Steinberger, but sold it cause I didn’t like the feel.

@@bassplayer807I really dislike the fashion aspect of bass guitars where it may not look correct for a certain genre. A Dingwall can literally do anything. Doesn't bother me how it looks in any scenario

Finally got my hands on a 5-string Combustion 3, loving it and still can't decide which is my favourite pickup choice. Not a bad problem to have as they all sound great! 👌🖤

I got an NG3 switch for my combustion to replace the Dbird switch and it changed the bass from a regret purchase to my favorite bass.

Are the bridge and middle pickups in series or parallel in the NG3?
@marcelvandenoever850010 ай бұрын
In series.
@francoishtzl15717 күн бұрын
huuuuh, okay so They are in Serie together. But the middle is wired in parallel and the bridge is wired in serie individually
@CHEWYCHEWYQQ10 ай бұрын
Has dingwall ever considered 5 or 6 way switches? 4 gives you every combination on a 2 pickup bass, but you'll always be missing some sounds for 3 pickup basses. It's particularly weird since strats have 5 options.
@WartornNOR7 ай бұрын
You'd need even more to cover everything... parallel vs serial as well.

Own a combustion. Remember being blown away at how P the P setting is, how J the J setting is, etc etc. That versatility is fantastic and all but I wound up in passive, J setting, bass full, mid and treble half and the settings have been there ever since. I'll mess with the nobs occasionally only to go "nope, I was right, back to how it was." My other basses have gotten VERY little playing time since that purchase, and now I'm lusting after a super J. Go figure.
