Kim's underrated. She's got some kickass bass lines for someone who didn't consider herself a musician primarily. This song is so much fun to play. Thanks. If you're taking suggestions for next SY songs, Schizophrenia, Eric's Trip (or any Lee song) or more recent stuff like Stones or Rain on Tin would be greatly appreciated.

I do take suggestions, and next SY song gonna be from your list:) As for Lee's songs, they are really special, aren't they? Just in case, I did a couple of them for this channel ("Mote" and "What We Know"), you can find them in the SY playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLWUDLItjYbtAsXCkmaKhn4NkjNQp4DXZj

@@BassCoversWithTabs Sweet thanks. Subscribed so I don't miss it. I'm a shitty bass player, I have slow hands, only decent sense of rhythm and absolutely no ear so it's really hard for me to learn things by ear, especially Sonic Youth because it's hard to pick up the exact bassline through the controlled chaos and dissonance. And it sucks because it's probably my favorite band, so a sincere thank you for allowing me to play along songs I never would have been able to on my own. And back to Lee's songs, I love them, even had made a mix tape of them at some point back when cassettes were a thing. Genetic is another favorite of mine.

@@MrGabou77 I can relate to your hardships since I'm not a very talented player myself, and the original goal behind this channel was exactly to help poor souls like you and me learn Nirvana bass lines. Then it expanded to my other two favorite bands, SY and Pixies, and then the rest too. So I'm very glad to know it's helpful for you:) And yes, some bands are more difficult to pick up (and tab) than others, and it doesn't necessarily have to do with the basslines' complexity; SY is one of those due to Lee's and Thurston's guitar madness. By the way, have you heard Lee's solo albums? If you haven't, check 'em out, some good stuff right there as well. I'd recommend "Between The Times & The Tides" and "Names of North End Women" albums.

@@BassCoversWithTabs Big fans of these bands too, part of why I love your work. I have checked most of Lee's solo stuff, but haven't got to "Names of North End Women" yet but I'll give it a listen.

Love this! Do you think the opening G is A or D string? Another dude on a different channel plays if off the D maybe to get a different fretboard sound. Just wondering - your channel is great by the way. I'm going through a few of them today and really like playing along. Sonic Youth is the first band I have started rocking out too, rather than just trying to play along correctly.

Hard to say. If you listen closely to the original record, you can hear a slight slide from this G to the D note, especially during the second pass. The slide doesn't sound deep/long enough to be performed from the 5th fret all the way to the 12th, which would be the case if it was the D string. On the other hand, if you watch them playing it live, sometimes it looks like she indeed plays the G note on the D string and the hand then stays in the same position for the G note. But on some videos, she starts the song on the upper frets. Go figure¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Hell, it could be even an open G string. >Sonic Youth is the first band I have started rocking out too, rather than just trying to play along correctly. This is the way:)

@@BassCoversWithTabs Thanks man! That's really detailed, I guess it doesn't matter too much on distorted bass unless there is a clear slide sound. Kim Gordon made me want to play bass so learning the songs is a fucking blast. You are way ahead of me but I'm getting there. Keep posting vids!
