It's the dissonance of the tunings and the chords they use I think, it creates a lot of emotional urgency, their discography is full of songs that evoke similar feelings. I think they're one of the few bands to perfect that sort of evocative nature in their songs, another being Radiohead.

Some trivia: Kathleen Hanna (the girl in pigtails) is married to Adam Horovitz of the Beastie Boys, and Tamra Davis (the video's director) has been married to Mike D of the Beastie Boys.

@@mejganzia5654 Nah, the early days of the internet were great. Things got weirder, more experimental; people'd have their own pages and they'd just do all kinds of strange stuff. It helped that almost all of the early adopters were Gen X, letting our freak flag fly. This continued till about 2006. Then, Facebook and the advent of smart phones. Myspace didn't quite wreck things, since it didn't have the whole social thing down to an addictive drug. You used it, but it was ignorable enough. After FB though, communication and social networking through other means atrophied, personal web pages disappeared, etc. But not going to concerts is on you. I've gone to plenty in recent years, and some really great and memorable ones-if anything, FB has made it way easier to keep track of the touring activity of artists you like, so there is that.

Gordon has done an amazing job of turning her weakness into a strength. She's one of the most consistently flat singers in music yet has leaned into in such a way that it totally works in context. With the raw vocal material she's working with there's a hundred ways she could have been bad and only one way she could have been good, and she found it. I guess it means if you don't have a traditionally "good" voice, don't despair, find a context it works in. Les Claypool is another perfect example. He's got good pitch but his timber is...unique. Try to imagine him fronting just about any other metal band to see what I mean. Yet in Primus it's the only thing that makes sense.
