I bought a Sire V7 left handed this year. After fifty plus years of bass playing and having played and owned virtually all the classic basses at one time or another, this is the best all rounder of all,no question. I should add that that's based on my playing style and sonic needs.

I bought a 2021 Squire Mustang Classic Vibe bass in April. It's perfect. No issues at all. In fact Fender cleared up the problem with the two 'dead spots'. One about at the octave on the D string. The other I don't recall. I once owned a CIJ (Crafted in Japan) bass by Fender that had those two 'dead spots'. I love short scale basses! Great video.

The fender mustang bass of 60-70s was quite under rated, they managed to get reasonable tension on the E string, which was a problem with short scale basses of the time. Fender bass fender strings, had to work. I didn't buy one because it had a racing stripe on it, so missed out on something special and different.

Hi Julia...thanks for the informative review. You’ve definitively got the chops to perform an adequate review of each of these. You’re able to play the common styles that these basses would be expected to handle and you do so in the relaxed manner of a seasoned professional. When you mentioned that the Squier CV ‘70s Jazz Bass had a maple body along with the standard issue maple neck and fretboard, my first thought was that the bass had to be über massiv. I just returned from a friend’s home who owns that same Squier bass and his bass surprisingly weighs only about 4 kg. What bass did I buy this year? I’ve always wanted a simple, passive Fender Precision that was American made and was a bit nicer than the ones I’d owned previously. I scored a 2019 Fender American Professional Bass that was being sold as a B-stock item. I could not find anything about the bass that would betray it as anything but a brand new, virtually unplayed instrument. The price was reduced by about $300 from the usual and customary street retail price on account of the B-stock status. It’s gorgeous, plays like a dream and sounds as though it were made in the Heavenly Realm. That it’s green, my favorite color, is a plus.
