Was talking to an old timer a few years back that changed the way I look at sunny vs cloudy days , he told me he loves to fish during high pressure bluebird skies , said the bass are going to be where their supposed to be, when its cloudy and they moving around or actively feeding they can be harder to find, pretty much what you are saying now

Here is a question I need answered. I fished a reservoir thus past weekend. I was disappointed because they lowered it by 8 to 10 feet. Most of the coverage for Smallies was now on dry banks. Where would they go? I am a bank fisherman for now.

Joseph, great question. I am a bank angler as well. I have found that smallies do not like changing conditions very much. I would think since they dropped the water that significantly the fish would retreat to deeper water. I would look at a topo map and see where the steep drops are close to the areas that held bass before. These steep drops would be the areas that the bass would move up and down on. Hope this helps

I love cloudy days, just have to cover more water those days. Love hot sunny calm days too especially with grass mats, frog shines during slick conditions, once that wind picks up they want nothing to do with the frog. The chop on the water, kills the subtleness of the frog. Not sure if it's a visibility issue or they can't hear it walking on the surface

Great info had some great days on cloudy days suspended like you were saying you would think then days where they definitely go to the bottom..my home lake is structure filled (logs/stumps…a lot rip rap and country rock) just hard to find em off shore so many stick ups being super murky largemouth only alot pull out in the summer especially in that standing trees below 👇 your boat when pitching flippin and make a cast in front of boat has caught me Some major pigs in that 15/20 Ft range..only get foot or so visually very murky but so much timber everywhere looks like paradise..channel swings and them long points..flats it has serve well..traveling im fairly Confident off shore More shad chasers and deep Water spots..def appreciate the tips and couldn’t sgree more On cloudy 🌥 go darker colors ..black blue is a staple pitching my home lake timber but moving baits dark can work well , like black blue chatter to buzzbait, definitely your bottom Baits even a solid black Crank bait so I do very much think it plays a roll a lot of cloudy days ecen stained 4/5ft had good luck in other lakes similar approaches or After Dark

Thanks for the info on behaviors! What would you do when you have a single pole and clouds alternately cover and uncover the sun every few minutes?

Always bringing the great information. I'm curious if anyone is charting where they find fish under certain weather conditions. It would be an interesting study to do for a year... Not trying to convince myself to buy a livescope am I!

I had more luck catching smallmouth on a cloudy day last year between 1pm and 2:30pm. As soon as the sun 🌞 came out the bite dropped off completely. I was using black and blue worms Texas rig with the smallest bullet weights

On sunny days, I like to use Banana Boat Sport, SPF 100 as scent on my lures. 😂 Great content tutorials. Keep 'em coming. New subscriber and born again bass fisherman. Learning a lot from you, and quite a few of the commenters. As a boy in Oklahoma in the '60s, we caught lots of bass and crappie, bank fishing with a cane pole, minnows or worms, and a bobber. The bass here in Washington state are absolutely delicious. But only from certain lakes and ponds. I live near one of the best around, could be considered a small lake, which got me interested in going back to my roots. I've been a steelhead and salmon junkie most of my life in Alaska, now Washington. But I also have Riffe lake reservoir as lakefront, right down the hill from my house.
