One of the main reasons I throw my buzzbaits nekkid is the increase casting distance. The skirt acts like a parachute and you can't cast it as far, especially into the wind.

Been casting skirted buzzbaits for over 20 years and hit 45 to 50 yards a cast easy lol wide body soft plastics catch more air that's a scientific fact lol solid matter over loose free flowing.

@@blind_eye_fishing Ackshully - the full mathematical formula for computing drag within a fluid (such as air) is as follows - F(d) = ½ρυ²c(d)A which, in layman's terms, means that more surface area equates to more drag. If you combine the surface area of all the skirt material together, the drag coefficient far exceeds any soft plastic bait by a large margin. I order to achieve the same amount of drag that a skirt pulls through the atmosphere (as that is what drag actually does), you'd need a soft plastic that was roughly a foot long and 6 inches wide.

@@LowBrowFishing for someone trying to sound super smart you can even spell actually 🤔 🤣 but no you are incorrect but that's OK. The solid matter of a soft plastic will and does cause more drag and less air flow. Same as a car grill allows air to glow through to the radiator to cool it. Fill in the grill with plastic and see how much more drag is on the vehicle plus the lack of air flow which will cause the vehicle to over heat. The air flows through and between the skirt material but not through and between a solid piece of plastic. Most use wider body frogs as a trailer to help skip and plane the buzzbait to the service easier. Air is not a fluid either but water is lol.

@@blind_eye_fishing I see that you don't really have a scientific background (as evidenced by the fact that you don't know that air is indeed treated as a fluid), so I will do my best to try to explain it as best as I can to someone with your obviously limited intellectual capabilities - as I stated before, the amount of drag is equal to the amount of surface area. This is a fact of physics that you cannot change nor deny. A skirt has much more overall surface area than a solid chunk of plastic, thus more drag. Agree with it or don't. I care not which. You can try to debate this, but you'd be wrong. The math doesn't care whether you agree with it or not, it simply is; regardless of your predilection towards errant beliefs.

Always a skirted with no trailer catch way more fish on them than any other buzzbait and a straight skirt only bozzbait does cast farther than a solid body soft plastic buzzbait lol. Buzzbaits are my favorite topwater and I built and will be building my own custom ones 😬

@@BassGeek it's not necessarily just a opinion though it's well over 20 years of experience with my favorite topwater lure lol and 2 years building custom lures for a small local bait maker. Science, air flow vs service area comes into affect on casting. There is a times that one might out catch the other but in the over all experience the straight skirted buzzbait has caught more in every place I've ever fished, Including tournaments.

@@BassGeek Hank bro pros use both lol there's a time and place most consider one or the other. Many pros do infact prefer the skirted models in most situations. You don't always see what pros prefer because they are trying to sell yoi their sponsors lures as well lol that's how they keep contracts and make money from those sponsors. Just like pros don't throw one singliar brand even though they only have one lure brand as a sponsor. They show you them throwing their sponsors brand but don't show the other 100 brands they've used and the ones they continue to use.

The skirt grabs the water to much I feel and I can skip anything,u tied me on a buzz bait,spinner bait ,lipless, even a spook I can make bounce some how ,let me say sum. I've thrown a buzz bait with just the trailer and got more aggressive bites then with the skirt. They just nip at the skirt I feel
