100% Spot on! Tell that to a 19 year old with a 250 behind him! I mean go up and tell them! I've have had to do it twice this year. Hope all is well and remember, you're just one cast away...

Got certified back as a junior in high school 2002, my school had a marine operators class and learned the marine rules of the road, chart plotting and even a bridge simulator to dock several different vessels. Recieved a non exp certification from LDWF, basically a license for power boats. It was a class geared to tug boat operation in the gulf States.

That's Awesome Adrien. I love to hear that. We need more Marine Operator Classes, especially the ones related to 250hp on a 20 ft boat. Remember, you're just one cast away...

Fished one of my firsts BFL with an 18 year old kid, using his dad's boat. Knew I was in for a long day after the first run! We took off in middle of pack, water was churning from all the wakes. We are bouncing along at close to 80 mph, with my fat arse in the air more than in the seat. Later in the day, he almost drove through three buoys marking a rock ledge. And he would have had I not popped him in the arm to tell him about it. Nothing wrong with speed. But it does no good to go catch a limit if you don't live to weigh them in! Slow down and enjoy the fishing!

Thanks Tim for the comment. Agreed. Most parents/grand parents throw them the keys and don't bother with anything else. As I personally experienced twice this year. I pulled these kids aside and in a firm fatherly tone told them, "to slow their ass down and explained why." Congratulations on fishing the BFL! Remember, you're just one cast away...

I say this is a great idea. Go even farther that all boat owners should have to do it. I will say I could use a refresher on this. I am 59 and been driving a boat since I was twelve . Went through a course in high school in South Carolina. But, know there may be things I have forgotten.

"there may be things I have forgotten." Great idea Charles. If I may add every 2 years our Sheriffs dept made us come out for a day and re-qualify for our CCW permit. Morning time in the class room setting and afternoon on the range. Remember, you're just one cast away...

There needs to be Drivers Ed for boats for the high schoolers. Not just a class but on the water instruction then they may retain those safety lessons through college and beyond. States need to establish speed limits for lakes.

I’ve only heard of one college fishing tournament accident but heard of at least 2 or more pro fishing tournament circuits where reckless driving was involved so that tells me that they would not even care about a safety course so I think that banning them for all tournaments forever would be appropriate because they didn’t care in the first place and people could have got killed

Thanks for sharing these young kids. Don’t even have a clue when it comes to Boating. They think they can just fly up here in the Delta around the corners as if nobody’s around there fishing or coming towards them you have to have it in your mind that there’s always somebody around the corner.

One thing can be done the states that require anybody at certain age to take a boater safety class should offer a driving course just like you do when you get your driver's license you take a written test then you take a driver's test

I'm 62 years old and I firmly believe everyone who drives a boat should have to attend a mandatory boating safety course, including a driving test just like you take for a vehicle or motorcycle. In recent years I have seen several instances of very careless behavior regarding bass boat drivers. Age is irrelevant. Any yahoo is currently allowed to drive a high performance bass boat. Another issue is speed. How fast is too fast? How fast do you need to go on a lake? Bass boats with 500 hp motors? Why? Bass boats don't have brakes and they have zero protection for the driver and passengers. More and more boats are on the lakes. I have been bass fishing since I was a kid. Used to tournament fish when people were responsible with boats. It has gotten so bad that I won't even go on weekends because it is dangerous. Something has to change. It has become the wild west on lakes. I hate regulations, but unfortunately, they are needed because of irresponsible and narcissistic people.

I live in Florida as well and I think for the younger generations they should not be able to buy a boat or a pwc with out showing they have taken and passed the boater safety course as well. Just like you need a motorcycle course before driving off the lot. I see too many foolish people on the St John's river every weekend.

Tournament organizations need to be regulated by lawmakers. It’s out of hand with the size of these tournaments and incompetence among some of the participants. I personally think tournaments should have oversight by the gaming commissions of each state. It’s nothing more than unregulated gambling.
@pain_weaver

@waynewalters5813 so you want gaming commission to regulate bowling leagues golf leagues or any league sport or fun activity? Cause that's what your suggesting
@waynewalters5813
@waynewalters5813 Ай бұрын
@@pain_weaver What I’m suggesting is tournament organizations only care about making money. The similarities to legal regulated gambling are the same. Pay up front than take your chances. Regulators can set standards and monitor these organizations. Right now it’s the wild west.

The past couple years fishing I personally have seen more traffic on the water. And most of them never have drove a boat and man it shows. From passing to tubing and it's been crazy. I can count 6 times that I have almost been hit. And honestly couple times I was actually fishing a bank and have them come close to side swiping me. Something has to give yall. Careless pro don’t care that’s the problem because it rolls down hill if the pros can be reckless then why not everyone they know better ( I’m now a retired truck driver if anything happened in our truck or any kind of accident we would be reprimanded and sometimes even fired and should be punished because we should know better just like the pro fishing anglers ( MLF and Bassmaster) should know better but just don’t care and should be terminated from the tournaments period

Colorado? There's Bass there? LOL wink. I completely understand when you state that. Here where I live in Florida it's the opposite. Hey I'm a bass fisherman. I don't have a bass boat tho as it doesn't suit my needs they suck in waves. Got me a 50 on a 16 foot boat. I have more respect for other fisherman than most. I keep distance and if I have to split 2 boats cause of ski boaters cutting me off I drop plane and idle between
