For anyone who struggles with backing trailers. Just take it to an empty parking lot and practice. Practicing with set lines / cones will really help.

It also helps to steer with your hand at the bottom of the wheel. That way, you don’t have to think backwards.

Yep! That’s what I did with my son when he was 16. If you can randomly choose a parking stale and back in between the white lines ( harder than if you have two objects to park in between) you’re golden. You’ll be able to park anywhere using your two mirrors.

An old trick that I learned about backing a trailer as a kid…put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel. Move your hand left to back left and move your hand right to back right. It’s easy and it works.

That's how I was taught to back gooseneck hay trailers into hay barns with 1' of clearance on each side when you got it centered. It is the easiest way to learn by far.

U-know Dan I taught my Daughter to back a trailer in the driveway at home, she got really good at it too. (a small 8X5 utility trailer) Just a small tip from an old goat, (1). learn to use your mirrors. (2). If the trailer tail fades right turn right, if the tail fades left, turn left. My mom was the one that brought our '17 foot Whaler wherever we went. My dad would get off work and she'd be at the dock loaded and ready to go with us 3 boys. She was Wonder woman in our eyes. And as tiny as she was, 4'10" she could do what most men could do and better. Later we got a 21 footer and she was definitely the captain, my dad was just the first mate, lol.

Hey Big Dan, new viewer!! Your 'show' is fantastic!! Man, it's entertaining and if new boaters pay attention, it's educational. I gave my helm seat to my Son awhile back. We started out with a 15' Procraft, that's where he learned to pilot a boat, back up a trailer and studied and memorized watercraft rules and laws. We went all the way up to a 38' Scarab when we moved to Florida. Now he has a 21' Ranger. I really wish there was a show like yours back when my Son started. That big sportfisher is really nice!!! The jet boat ladies really struggle, but hey, it takes practice. I learned to back a trailer at 15 years old when I got a Hobie 14. To their defense, short wheel base vehicles and short trailers are a challenge. The slightest turn will change your angle. Slow and steady wins the race. 😂

Most times the trailers are tofar in the water. Completly submerge the trailer so the boards are wet then pull out to expose about almost 1/2 the trailer. Pontoon slides on smooth.

IF one puts their hand at the bottom of the vehicle steering wheel, then while backing, they may move their hand in the direction that they want the boat/trailer to go. Slow and steady wins the race. Once in straight, back trailer until top of fenders are at surface of water, but in every case... some part of the bunks should be above the water to ride up onto and center the boat without floating. I used to launch and retrieve in the Mississippi River, perpendicular to the current. That required crabbing onto the trailer at a controlled speed.

When I was a kid my dad said to use the bunks and rollers as a guide, the front of the bunks should be above the eater or shallow enough that when you hit the trailer they guide the boat on. And never back in deep enough for the bow is under the winch roller

Those kids on the Sea-doo knew what they are doing. Spinning is the best way to stay in place with a jet boat/PWC. Mine is supposed to have a 'keep here' mode but it doesn't work very well.

I had an interesting session at the launch this afternoon. After fishing for a few hours, I made it back to the launch, which doesn't have a dock, just a concrete wall and nowhere to tie up. I put down my power pole to hold position while I back the trailer down the ramp. Surprise! the little breeze had some fun with my boat, swinging it around across the single lane ramp. So I had to put on my water shoes and get wet to push it out of the way so I could get the trailer down. 3 minutes later, safe and sound on the trailer and gone up to the street to unload and secure everything for the 2 hour trip home.

Stop hitting on women drivers. I backed in and loaded my ski Nautique by MYSELF many times with no problems for 8 years and then a fully enclosed 30 foot pontoon for 5 years successfully as well. I did fly a small flag on the pontoon for wind direction to help me navigate with or against the wind. Women can do just as good. But.......love your show......my favorite past time was always floating near the ramps just to watch the people launch. Always something to laugh at. Bless their hearts, takes practice. I think the struggles with pontoons is the same reason v hulls struggle. These Captains simply don't pay attention to where the motor is pointed before they hit the gas. If you watch the they'll correct then before centering the motor again they hit the gas and screw up what they just tried to fix. Rinse, repeat.

So the biggest issue with Pontoons while docking is wind. When I had my pontoon I always made sure to put the Bimini down before trying to load. That made things so much easier.

Man, that last boat reminds me of a Luhrs my neighbor had when I was a kid, that thing was huge! I spent a few weekends on it and felt so poor when I had to go home, lol. I remember his fuel bill was like half of my dad's annual salary. To this day I'm repulsed by that sort of wealth.
