That was the most incredible brook trout fishing I've ever seen. People would pay thousands just to have a guided experience like that, and so cool you keep this place secret. Why are these brookies so huge compared to your other lake catches, and is it the amount of available feed or is this place rarely fished?? Jaw dropping bruh!!!

This lake in particular goes through swings in brook size and population based on water levels and spawning, some years they get to 5 pounds and other years there’s nothing over 2.

I usually keep my knife in my fishing bag, but sometimes I do take out the knife from the bag to use it at home. SO, I also forget to bring the knife when I go out for fishing. To avoid those kind of situation, I bought myself Victorinox camping knife which could strap on my pants that might prevent from forgetting it. Knife and fire are must for outdoor cooking as you know.

Looks like you're threading your baits on inverted. Have you found this to be more effective? Fish are generally dark on top and light on the bottom but you have the hook coming out the light side of the bait. Also, i suspect you may be catching splake in that first pond, not brook trout. Brookies have a blue halo around the red spots and a perfectly square tail. Splake have a slightly indented tail and no blue halo. Not to detract from your experience at all. Those are some beautiful big fish and I wish I could be there with you. Those ones in the second pond are definitely brookies though. Beautiful.

Fish could care less which way you put your bait on. Putting it on sideways gives it a different action. Might even look injured to the fish

Please don't use rubber baits! They don't break down, and can, and will plug up the fish so they can't get real food into them. Go with worms, shrimp or maggots.

Must be some private lake buddy cuz you don’t catch fish like that on public land. Not up here in Canada anyways. You’d half to be in the middle of Algonquin Park to catch speckles like that. Sometime wrong with this story. No public lake has speckles like that.

One of best ways to distinguish the sex of a trout is to examine the mouth. Female trout all have a short rounded nose or upper jaw, while male trout have a more elongated snout. If your trout has a lower jaw with a kype, it's a male for sure.Dec 18, 2023
