Bastian, thanks a lot for all these playthroughs, I love them. And I was a bit distraught first when I heard that Dirk left the band, but I have to say you're doing an amazing job taking up the torch after him. You style is a little bit different, but I really like it and think it works really, really well. The last album was amazing, I'm keeping my fingers crossed we get a lot more amazing stuff from Soilwork with you behind the kit!
@BastianThusgaard4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for saying that Joakim. Really appreciate it. It was no joke stepping in after Dirk and I still struggle some times. My style and approach is a little bit different yes. I'm glad you see this as a positive addition to the band. Much more fun for us as well when we don't have to copy the previous drummer 100% ✌🏻

@Joakim Ericson seems like it is the plight of Soilwork fans to lament the loss of a drummer only to celebrate the arrival of the new drummer. I was sad when Henry left but happy that Dirk joined ( admittedly I knew nothing about Dirk back then, had no idea how incredibly good he is). Now the same applies to Dirk / Bastian. I also wish for many more Soilwork albums with Bastian on the throne 🤟🔥

This is phenomenal. Soilwork has been my favorite band for more than a decade. I wear a hat I got at a concert in Canada back in 2013 every single day. Every single song has inspired me to be a better musician and chase the melodic death metal dream. You're a testament to what can be achieved through practice and discipline, and the end result is getting to create music with the greatest band on the planet. I listened to Verkligheten 100 times in the first week it released and could not get over your talent. Composing drums is truly one of the most difficult arts, in any genre let alone MDM, and you are perhaps one of the most gifted composer I've had the pleasure of listening to in decades. Keep fucking shredding and i'll keep listening, you're the envy of all of us who grew up wishing we could one day shred alongside Bjorn.
@BastianThusgaard4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for saying that Riley. I absolutely try my best. Recording Verkligheten was a great experience for me and I was truly thankful for the freedom I was giving composing the drum parts. Very proud of the result, so I'm really happy about receiving feedback like this 😊 Thanks so much for the support and best of luck with your music as well 🤘🏼

Hi Bastian! Thank you for sharing these kind of videos... They're truly educative... I learn as i enjoy the song! It's a good deal! You're doing a great job bro! Don't forget Henry Ranta played there in a swedish melodic death metal era... Then came Dirk with his style and now you're the one with the sticks! I was there when you played here in Chile. It was amazing! Keep drumming that way bro!!! Keep drumming!!!

Bastian thank you for these playthroughs. I learn alot from watching them! You've done an AWESOME job filling in for Dirk and making the songs your own. I also really love your smooth and easy playing style, You make it look waaaaay to easy ha like the incredible live version of Arrival. SO GOOD! Also Cult of None from Arcane Order is one of the best albums in the last 10 years and your playing really elevates it! Cheers from Las Vegas.

Great stuff man , quick question , do you find it much easier with the two bass drums than playing with a double pedal?
@BastianThusgaard4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Marcel. I think two kicks are easier to play, but it also creates some more distance between the rest of the kit which I don't like too much. I prefer to have everything close. Actually I just went back to one kick, but it's cool to be able to switch back and forth.

Amazing drumming Bastian! Love your tight playing and I think you fit the band perfectly after Dirks departure! One nerdy question: do you mix your drums yourself or do you have it done for you? 'Cos it sounds freaking massive! Any chance of having a look at the mixing settings haha? 😁 Great work man, looking forward seeing and hearing more of you! 🤘 Rock on!
@BastianThusgaard4 жыл бұрын
Hey Lenart, Thanks a lot buddy 🙏🏻 For the latest videos Thomas 'Plec' Johansson has done the mix, so tbh I don't have any settings. I am slowly getting into the mixing proces myself, but it's pretty tough and time consuming I think... Sorry for not being at more help regarding your question 😊

Very interesting to see that u twitch a bit on right side while increasing the double bass speed in the chorus. Is it intentional or just reflex to increased foot speed?

It might be a little bit of both actually. I tend to learn forward when increasing the speed and that probably re-position my feet a little bit 😊
