"i was thinking about the blame music video for a bit, and this is my interpretation: the Nietzsche quote at the beginning “What can everyone do? Praise and blame. This is human virtue, this is human madness.” leads quite directly to the cult topic of the video. it is what humans do: they cling to religion (or things similiar to religion) to have something to hold on to, to believe in something, to get some hope. in dark times, with the media presenting new bad news every minute, the people feel hopeless and scared. all they can do is “praise and blame”. when watching the video, you get the feeling of the cult not being an independent group, but actually set up from someone from above. the radio (a symbol for the media) in the middle of the circle, the paintings of the eye (somebody is watching you), and the message with the kiss emoji everybody is getting… it all gives me the idea that the cult is actually set up by WWCOMMS in order to control the people (even when they are trying to escape this control). consider the formally dressed woman in the beginning, who is setting up the chairs: it all seems to be really planned. the kiss with the dark lips might be a symbol for the dark lies which WWCOMMS uses to manipulate the people. the way the reality and truth is distorted is shown with the distortion of the actual images. the people praise it for giving them something to believe in and something to hate (to wrongfully blame for their misery) as well. this manipulation is so very strong that it makes them go absolutely insane (notice the young man coming out of the cult room before the woman in the yellow dress enters it) and also gets them to take action according to the lies that were inforced in their brains. the water is a symbol for those wrong information and manipulation: the mouth is within it and when the woman in the yellow dress is firing her gun, water is coming out of it. she shoots somebody she is blaming for something (i reckon it’s about the blame for the bad situation the world is in), and the reason why she is blaming them, is, that WWCOMMS told her so. yet neither her nor anybody else notices the brainwashing. or they don’t want to notice it, because it gives them a sense of security in the “Wild World”. they need the lies.they get addicted to them. that’s why the woman wants “some water” at the end of the video." - grasstouch (someone on tumblr)

So, here's my theory about the video: In their second album, Bastille have tried to react to politics, to what's happening in this "wild "world" and our attitude towards all these events (warmth, the currents, snakes, the videolf fake it). So I tried to understand the video in this context. Undoubtedly, the water is a really important element. To me, it symbolises the words of politicians, who lie to us, say all the stuff that we want to hear and believe, in order to gain power. The members of the society crave for these words, which is why the people are kissing the black lips. After they kiss the lips, the people are in some kind of ecstasy, in an illusion, for they believe all these lies. Nevertheless, at the end of the video, the woman asks for "water". She asks the politicians to keep their promises, and of course they don't, they only give her a drop of "water" When people touch the red wall, it's like they consent to their passive attitude towards what politicians do. The gun could refer to violence, and it becomes "water" because by committing violence we help politicians gain power. When it comes to the big eye, I think it refers to the lack of privacy, since we're being watched and stalked through technology (people look at their phones at the beginning on the video. And how is this related to the song? Maybe we blame politicians for what's happening, or politicians blame each other. I'd like to know your own theorys too!

When they kiss the mouth / drink the water, they fall into the reality of their stereotypes. We are all to blame for judging, labeling, and categorizing. The only way these people can survive is if they keep consuming the false expectations (the water) that society sets for them. They have no idea that there is are entire bodies of water outside of that room.

Interpretations thread, people! Does anyone else feel like this was about social media, a little? I think it's about how social media tends to act like an echo chamber. Ties into Wild World's talk on "media". Firstly, the idea was that they got the call to the lip-cult thing through phones (social pressure) and there's the fact that everyone was shown wearing earphones (playing up of technology + interconnectedness) that guides me to this idea. Next is the prevalence of only the single eye and pair of lips as a symbol - there's only one viewpoint that's being used, only one message being propagated. No changes to the lips, no changes to the one eye. There's also the fact that people press their thumbs to the painting with the eye on it without changing the eye - almost like "liking" the viewpoint being shown. The fisheye lens in the video and the creepy eye lady kind of point towards the idea of a skewed viewpoint, something that isn't an accurate reflection of things. The dichotomy between the real world (the girl wanting water, the echoing room of people seemingly not doing anything) resembles an outsider perspective of someone using a phone or laptop to connect to any social network - with the vibrant inner world where everyone is ecstatic and religious being the people interacting on social media. (Praise and blame also make me think of ranking systems. Like, dislike.)

Beth Williams yeah, nowadays we somehow worshipping the media and let it control us.. then there's some people said "see, the media bring bad influence to us" but the real thing is that we let it control us by worshipping it... so I think thats what the mv's have this message.. the people who entered the room after received the messages from their phone is how we always let the media to control us and follow things blindly... the mv's showed how the people in it somehow 'having fun' after hypnotize but actually they are in bad situation... that one showed how we are.. hmm what actually the water mean I'm curious :'(

My favorite song on the album and one of my favourite music videos of all time

So here's my explanation. The bowl seems to be some sort of attraction to what seems to be a kind of cult or following. The 'Alarm' the people receive in the video appears to be a calling to the 'events' or even a signal. The eye on the multiple walls seems to be the main attraction, probably the control point of everything. Also, notice (if I'm not mistaken), the guy with the swollen hand looks like the same lad from the send them off video, might suggest something if you link the two. (Edit) I reckon Dan got his inspiration for the song and video from the film "Eyes wide shut". I feel like its a mixture between The exorcist, Othello (Which he's mentioned on Twitter) and part II of the film. I've got to say bastille make it very hard each time to find the meanings of their videos, I've done my best, but I'm pretty certain this isn't related to drug abuse, although interpret it as you will, after all, it's what the guys at Bastille want us to do 😂

Hannah Wisdom That upside down triangle was a symbol used by a group a loooooooog time ago. They used to worship water Gods, and stuff like that. Soooo, it kinda makes sense! I watched this music video by the morning, now it's 4pm, I'm watching Grimm and they Just talked about it. Yeah, that's pretty weird, but anyway.

Hannah Wisdom The water is not only water but as the woman at the end "wakes up", she realizes she needs the water substance getting back in their mind world. So, it is a kind of substance making them hallucinate like electricity is needed to charge up phones.
@mawadanii8 жыл бұрын
My interpretation was that it heavily correlates with the saying "something must be in the water" that is usually said whenever a person seems to be acting out of the "norm". But I feel as though it starts out differently where the women out of curiosity goes to see what's in the room the guy just hazily came out of. Alongside the help of dan's interpretation; I feel as though she's stepping into what seems to be a gang. You have two sides (the clear water vs the black water), and essentially these two sides drink from their water sources where they have lips telling them whatever seems to "liberate" them into collective praises. The eyes rolled back and sitting in a circle seems to symbolize a form of mind control/pack mentality. Therefore the lips could be the 'leader' of the gang. The people leave their jobs, homes, etc as to go and join to the beck and call of the lips in the water, essentially the gang leader. The people within the gang feel as though they're always being watched and the smears of colour could represent loyalty to the gang using gang affiliated colours. The dancing in a circle is an ode to a false sense of security, as they join hands they feel as though they're connected. But when in reality, their chairs are faced outward instead of inward as was seen in the beginning of the vid; symbolizing that once they've been initiated it's not the community they once thought it would be. Instead, their chairs are spaced out and they're all in a state of a mind haze to where they're humming the same tune. I guess another saying in play, "they're all singing the same tune". Towards the end, you could clearly see the woman was coerced into the violence by pointing the gun, even though she's shaking. When she asks for that water, she's dependent on the gang now especially since she's been drained by it.

What the actual-? I'm very tired right now but here's my take on Bastille's new music video, hella weird as usual. This room is a kind of 'materialism' room. People gather to worship what they've made themselves and delight in them, no matter how dark and disgusting they truly are. Perhaps that was why someone left the room laughing, he realised how stupid it all was in the end, I guess. A very crazy laugh nontheless, perhaps he has been traumatized. They look like they're on drugs, and they all flinch when they have to kiss the strange mouth. Apparently it hurts but feels so good, they all participate and watch. Nobody was actually scared to do it, which shows that perhaps they're really sick in the head even before coming, and only the weak-minded and submissive ones came. In other words, perhaps brainwashed people! :) As usual, haha. The black water, what I think could represent wealth, cars, they keep kissing and praising it, dancing around it. They lose themselves in it. (and are not themselves in it in the end) And when one of them begins to realize she's lost purpose(and I'm supposing the man that's supposed to represent the monster made her remember for entertainment), she holds the gun against the monster she's created. Only to shoot herself. She goes back and repeats everything all over again. She almost realizes that there was no end to it. She submits once again to wealth and asks to indulge once again, despite having been destroyed the last time. Okay, even my explanation is weird.

Also, now that I think of it, according to conspiracy theorists, Illuminatis have always worshiped wealth. *Shrug* Just putting that out there. They're the perfect group in mind for this, lol.
@desireeheltzel-baylin97387 жыл бұрын
What you're saying Som Ebody is actually correct. You're right on spot with how you're interrupting this. If you notice within just the past few years alone the music industry has gotten quite bold with "their coming out". There's so many examples it's crazy and I could spend the rest of my life explaining it and here's a good one, I'm Pagan, however don't confuse me or associate me with Satan as I'm Christian too. There's a few things I'll say which are key words and it'll all come together for you: Marina Abramovic and spirit cooking, Lady Gaga aka Stephanie Germanotta interview confessing illuminati relationship, Katy Perry Illuminati handler, that's just 3 examples. I could give you 3,000 instantly. Also think about Lady Gaga's disappearance from music and her return and how she dresses now. She also confesses she can't sleep alone because she sold her soul to the Satan and he taunts her. Think about Brittany Spears and how she flipped out. They call this a breakdown from being brainwashed and miscommunication from their handlers. Ellen Degenerous is Brittany's handler. Kanye West's breakdown at his concert is another example and now he's scared which is why he went to see Donald Trump because Trump is not with the illuminati. He was never supposed to win the election so it's all messed up and the illuminati is having issues with having a New World Order. Just be careful what you write I've said enough.

Ehh, I find conspiracy theories interesting, but, I don't really think that this is something confirmed and is definitely true. Nice to hear and know about, but I'm not too obsessed with it. I used to be.
