This is the original demo by Martin Gore of Here is the House. You can notice Martin singing "Colours and shapes merge together" instead of "Body and soul come together".
I don't take credit for this, I just stumbled upon it on the internet.

Actually, today big part of the fans credit Alan for EVERYTHING, and when it comes to Martin, they talk only about his lyrics. That's unfair, dude. And writing a demo is a tough work considering you have to make every song different and memorable. Alan worked with pretty much finished ideas which he just had to polished. I would say give Martin the credit he REALLY deserves. We all know what Alan did, no one disagrees at all here >.>

agree 100%! I love Alan as much but let's be honest, this demo, the one for "shake the disease" and "lie to me" one shows clearly the melodic lines where written totally by Martin, in these 3 cases actually everything was done by him beside mix/production. What was really beautiful over the time, was this "ping pong" between them, rarely see in a project 2 genius persons, beside maybe The Beatles

@@attilaremzso7404 No one refuses it but in all comment sections i see Alan's name. "Alan this, Alan that". Fine, i don't mind it at all when it's in healthy doses, but those people's comments sound like they think Alan did all. That's what i do not like! Clearly, Alan wouldn't have come up with Strangelove, Shake the Disease, Everything Counts and so on if it wasn't for Martin's melodies and progressions, since, by their own words, in earlier years they stayed close to the demos. Which demos they were? Which melodies they were? Martin's and it seems like no one gives him credit for the music of DM! This annoys me. DM is my all time fav band and i know who did what and who didn't do. I just want to live in a world where BOTH of them are credited and cherished for the MUSIC. Not Alan for the music, and Martin for the lyrics. Unfair, man. Totally unfair. I know what Alan did, i know DM doesn't sound the same without him (tho honestly if he stayed, they would've sounded with the same darkness like years ago and i wouldn't have liked that probably, my opinion, what happened - happened) but everything the people talk is pretty much about him. And DM is not only him who did ALL. Unfair and sad. Just a little bit appreciation for Martin's music is all i want. I want to see people talking about his genius with coming up with these songs but i haven't read even one such comment. I know they exist but they are overshadowed by... you know what.

@@trancer4e4life okay, so let's see this more clearly. The only person who was educated to music really was AW. Forget it, ... music can go on without that sometimes pretty well. Than we need consider only the history of DM and the facts. Alan was apply for an advertising but was 5 years older... the three whos are there still today were probably never forget that cheat ever. 5 years means a lot, especcially when U are young. I know, as I have a brother like that. But when U are older and come from a family was more organized and things... again that can be a huge gap. AW was more principaled and decided to quit after SOFAD. the other three wanted still live and act like teenagers. So what can we say about the studio work? Marin is a genious, right. I like his deep dark relegious and anti relegious ideas... Whatever. There was only one man to sit and sit in the studio all the time and fcuk the fun around, but give a fcuk about the sounds.... and beside the MLG lirycs that was lift to the top the DM. :) I don't know what else to say really. Flood could tell more maybe about the very last period. Ask him :) ;) Peace and thanks to take time to write to me. Take care

I am amazed by martins use of notes. even more complex tracks like "walking my shues" everything was there. just needed polishing. I did read that the band asked mart to do less in demo after music for the masses as he pretty much made the complete sound. Alan did add alot but i do think he gets overplayed

His demos are great, but just for very simple songs, such as this one. I don't think he was very good harmonically, here he basically just stacks melodies on top of melodies, which are great, I've learned them all, but he isn't a very dynamic composer. I can't imagine him being able to orchestrate something like Black Celebration (the song), or It Doesn't Matter Two all by himself and you can hear the differences between how A Broken Frame sounds vs how Construction Time Again sounds.
@basehead617
@basehead617 2 жыл бұрын
@@Syfoll I think he is actually fantastic harmonically (at least he developed into it) - the ‘counterpoint’ style was more of an early stylistic choice.. the 2 main choices for the band were avoiding playing chords and avoiding using the same sound twice.. but for a pop songwriter some of his songs are quite advanced harmonically underneath at all.. that is not to discount Alan’s production choices but I think the songs are fully musically formed

As a musician I gotta admit that I have a great fondess for the demos before the mixing/production process. There is a real intimacy captured on a demo recording. You don't get the full studio experience, but what you get is pure, raw, uncut and unprocessed musicianship! Listening back to old demos reminds me of just why I live to create. One can spend hours on songs like these only to produce half a dozen minutes or less of music. But every hour spent has been worth it!

In my opinion, it's very clear when a song changed very little, and when Alan's presence is more strongly felt. Martin-dominated songs are very monophonic feeling, there isn't that much harmony, it's just stacking melodies and countetmelodies on top of each other, while songs where Alan changed more are much richer harmonically and more synchopated rhythmically.

I don't see why everyone says that this is fake. I mean, Martin doesn't always have to sing in his tenor voice that we're used to, this was a demo to practice on. If this demo is fake, then the Enjoy The Silence demo is fake. Now, we know that demo is real, if I'm not mistaken, the Enjoy The Silence demo was released to the public on the single (And I'm not confusing it with the Harmonium version).

I always loved this song. They often joke in the band that they would release it as a single because they don't seem to like it that much, but I truly think it would have made an amazing single release. I just love that song so much. People often say that DM owed a lot to Alan Wilder and he was good yes. But there would have been no Depeche Mode at all after 1982 if it wasn't for Martin's. All the great songs he wrote are no fluke or luck, just raw talent for writing. And I believe Alan was responsible for a lot of the most darker side of DM, a darkness that wasn't there in the beggining before Alan's influence became more important (look at See You and a lot of The Broken Frame stuff). But sometimes Alan was right, Enjoy The Silence wouldn't have been the same without him that's for sure that's why together there was a unique and marvelous balance from 83 to 93.

Alan goes in with big pro studio equipment and adds fills and affects. Of course it sounds better. Martin could make the whole album himself, but he always wanted to be in a band. Even Alan credits Martin with All the songs, except for the few Alan write on earlier albums. Stating he added affects later and wanted more credit for producing.
