A super super fun instrument! I love jamming on it, very stoked you made a video on it, your videos are always helpful!

Lovely presentation! I absolutely adore my sp2, I think I'd pick it for my desert island synth cause it's like a little creature best friend and so fun to play.

super interesting. ive grown more and more interested in exploring analog modular synthesis in my music and i was wondering if youve compared the sp2 with the 0-coast from make noise? both seem really cool to me but i cant quite decide which i should invest in first.

Have you ever tried to trigger it with a DAW? Somehow mine seems not resetting the sequence so as it does not start from the begining it’s never on time 😢 any help?
@0Fdigital2 ай бұрын
Great video! Quick question: I noticed that during the sequencer section, there seems to be a bit of "jitter" in the pitch, even when the sequence is all the same note. Is this due to the pitch mod slider not being all the way down or is there some issue with pitch stability? Not that it really matters too much for a device like this where uncertainty is kinda part of the charm :D
@SONWU2 ай бұрын
That must be the pitch mod, pitch is stable! In fact I think I'm using the digital oscillator here…which should be 100% stable I guess :)

Thank you for this video, very cool ! this gear look crazy, but I feel like the sequencer is creating hard-on-grid-patterns, like… maybe too much on grid ? is there a way to syncope or twist rhythmics a bit ?
@SONWU4 ай бұрын
My pleasure! It is on the grid for sure…no swing function as far as I am aware…but I think if you wanted something like that you could sequence from another source. It's a magnificent device either way.

Did you have to change the switch on the circuit board or can you switch from digital to analog without opening it? Thank you
@SONWU11 ай бұрын
Hi, I didn't have to change anything, as my unit came shipped with the latest firmware (digital). I think all new units come like that now. If not, I think you have to open it up…shouldn't be too difficult though!

Great video - it works great with midi in to sequence the patterns through external key changes - it will play through harmonies not just the scales you programme

Why do you like it so much? It kinda sounds terrible. I’ve watched all the videos and it always sounds like a shitty gameboy.

I think it has a great feature set and is very immediate. Sound is subjective I guess.

@@SONWU I agree the feature set is great … but somehow the range of timbres seems very limited.

@SONWU3 ай бұрын
Hey! I’ve used both of them and my preference would be the SP2…it is easier to get musical results going. I would call it a modular groovebox, as you can easily quantize to musical scales and therefore get something useful out of it (even without patching). The 0-Coast may be better in terms of raw sound, but also has less tools on board. Either way, don’t go modular…it’s a money drain ;)
@djcuvcuv3 ай бұрын
@@SONWU thats really helpful feedback. since i have so many groove boxes of various types (ko2, pocket operators, op1f etc) and im aspiring to have as little overlap as possible in my rig while still getting my feet wet in some deep analog synthesis, i think im leaning towards the 0-coast because of the sonic exploration possibilities intrigue me substantially

I just got my Softpop 2 today after getting to play with one at Knobcon. Such a cool instrument. I just want to play with it, and I mean that in the most literal sense of the word. It seems to encourage just playing with it and experimenting, finding little things that lead to creative new sounds. I can't remember who it was that referred to it as such, but I agree that it acts as an analogue modular groovebox. I can take it and just build a jam on it that I think could easily fall in line with other pieces of gear for a more complete setup, and I feel like I could have a blast doing so.
@SONWU Жыл бұрын
It definitely is a modular groovebox. Really a perfect semi-modular synth!

This is very different from a NTS-1…apples & oranges. Built quality is more than adequate though. Yes, it's PCB material, but everything is solid.
