Bat Plant /Tacca /Repotting & Care :)

Hi Guys,:)
Today I am repotting my "Tacca Bat Plant"' .
"Tacca Chantieri"
I'm having issues with keeping her soil moist and keeping her more humid, so I'm changing up her soil medium to a little bit heavier soil & taking her out of Tera Cota over to a plastic pot.
Lets see how she does with these new conditions!
I've had her about 6 months now.
And please ,if anyone has this plant, please let me know down in the comment section how you grow it and in what conditions you live in.

I live in Australia, very hot here and I grow mine under shade cloth as she doesn't like direct sun at all, the leaves burn very easily. Yes, maintaining moisture is a challenge, mine are in plastic pots too and I add coco coir to the potting mix. I find I have to repot and divide mine each year as the multiply quickly. May I suggest a pot about twice that size as when the babies start popping up they will need room. That pot should be fine for about 12 months. Enjoy your flowers they are stunning. There is a white variety as well but I don't have one.

You have some of the most interesting plants, Suzette! I've never heard of a Tacca Bat plant. It's a nice looking plant!

I put my alcosia Polly into winter rest inside my sewing room. I keep the door closed to that room since I a not in it much.in winter. Not sure when to bring her back into warmth. So far it has been a month. This is the first I have even seen this plant/flower. Gorgeous.

Hi Chris, as soon as it gets warm weather, I move mine into bright light, then water and she should start shooting up new growth, some take longer than others and some wake up before.. Lol just keep an eye on it and im sure you'll know if you see new growth.

I just got a White Bat Flower from Logee's this summer & I never heard of it...I got 60 orchids & 150 carnivorous plants. Your video was a life saver on repotting it up in Detroit,Mich.

Oh cool. I have some carnivorous plants to,I love them!!! Well so far so good with my taxa plant. No bloom yet. Maybe next year I hope. I also have orchids✌💖

I bought one from Logees years ago, but it was so small, it didn't survive. Hearing you say "treat it like an orchid" could be why I failed with this plant, plus learning they can go dormant, I my have "thought" it died, but didnt. Lol I love anything unusual like this. Maybe I'll try again.

Yes its odd all the reading I did before I got this plant I never read that it was considered an orchid , but im assuming its a ground orchid so still is a different . I say try again ...lol live and learn right hahahahhah

Hope you feel better I agree winter is driving me crazy. Thank goodness we have indoor plants. That will be awesome when it blooms. Keep us updated on how it does in its new soil. I have no place where I live to get bark or moss in winter so I went to pet store and got it I thought if it was safe for reptiles it should be for plants

I saw one of the Bat Plants at Tioga Gardens this past summer and almost bought it, what a beautiful plant 😍 Maybe I’ll give her a try in the Spring or summer if I find another one 😊 As always, great video my friend, have a great day! Haha haha ya I always have dirt in my coffee and when I'm outside in the summer it can be leaves, dirt, flower heads you name it haha haha. I've got to be part plant bye now😁😬😂😂😂

Glad you are feeling better! That is a beautiful plant! I have never had one but I did see one in bloom in person at a nursery I went to once (around 3 years ago... I need to go back!), I think it was like 2ft tall and they had it on a shelf over with supplies (soil, fert, pots) not sure why, but anyway the foliage caught my eye I thought it was gorgeous and different before I even noticed the flower! If I remember correctly it was like $35. which was worth it just for the size of it...I kinda regret not getting it and kinda not because everything I got from that nursery that day is no longer with me lol...not the nurserys fault, definitely mine😆😩. / Clay pots are definitely a nemesis in the home when the heat comes on!!

You would think a flower like that would stand out but I'm telling you it's not the first thing I noticed! I hope you can grow it and grow well, that means I would have a 50/50 chance of it surviving in my care should I see another one! LOL

Well I really wanted the white flowered one but I couldn't find it, this was a small plant when I got it and I think I only paid 20 with shipping for this one on eBay, and I was very attracted to the foliage because it reminds me so much of the hostas I have in my yard and I love those. I hope I can get her to flower some day. And ya I seen pics online,of these and omg they were huge...lol

I did the same. But put in a clay pot. Having trouble keeping the pot warm right now, so wrapped towels around them

Well I hope you can keep her warm. I also moves mine to the side of a west window and under grow light and closer to humidifier! I really like this plant! We will have to keep each other updated, hope the towel work. Clay pots are very cold in winter here! 😁✌💖

Hi, I recently got a Bat Plant 2 weeks ago, I’m in Florida, but so far her leaves are turning yellowish. I wonder if your media mix if the answer. Give us an update.

She did fine and grew well but now has been in kind of a dormancy over winter.

@@tropicalplantmomma That's great to hear! Finally, after 12 long years I've finally got three rhizomes to grow and their roots are coming out of the bottom of their pots, so I need to start thinking about putting them into bigger pots and I'm terrified of killing them

On no... they very well could. Dont give up on it. Maybe not enough water they drink a lot.
