Hi, I had Lightroom as some old roommates gave it to me while I was in Europe. I think they used their log in and uploaded the software onto my laptop. I used the program for 6/7 months and it was perfect, and then my MacBook Air stopped working. I took it into Apple for a diagnostic, and they said they had to reset everything. I backed up all my files (photos/docs/desktop), but lost all the apps (Microsoft Word, Lightroom), all the stuff that I really needed. It sucks because they didn't tell me that would happen. I looked in my files, and I have the Lightroom program on a USB... but I can't get in because when I click install it asks for my Adobe ID and prompts me to signup --which I think my roommates just put in for me on the first installation. How does the program work? Do you only need the login for the first time, and is there any way I can get around this in order to be able to use the program again? Thanks

The apple ID login should not effect being able to start up and use Lightroom. Especially if you have an older version which it sounds like you do. Just sign up for an Apple ID. It should be fine.

i dont have photoshop, so when i export one of my photo file catalogs (with like, 750 images) and change the file sizes to 800 k (from 5mb/photo), does this new file size only become valid within lightroom, ie. are the originals on my macbook photos still going to be saved onto a usb at 5mb (hence defeating the whole point to exporting and resizing)? thx

Should not save over the originals unless you want it to do so.

i think i have to somehow export the entire folder, but i'm confused about this step - when i import and create a folder in "documents" none of the photos actually get saved in there, so i'm left with resized lightroom photos that don't exist outside of lr's "library" ? ; none of the photos actually save in the new catalog, it's just empty lightroom banners or wv. / pls help

Just make a new catalog and delete the old one. All you need to do is import the newly resized images.

i have like 3-4000 photos that i need to resize basically , cuz they're 5-6mb each rn and i don't even have enough space to keep them on my laptop. the current sizing is redundant, the quality can be maintained at 800 k -- the problem is that even if i save them externally at this current size, i can't keep importing them back into LR when i wanna edit them. i just need all the files mass-resized somehow :s, if you have any specific advice for this prblm i will be 4eva grateful
