Bath, England is a wonderful Georgian City that dates back to the Roman age when they harnessed the thermal waters to create the famous Roman Bath. You'll not find a better example of Georgian architecture than here in Bath, England and we will take you back in time in just a few steps to when Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and many others walked the streets of the glorious city.
In our video we give you practical information about getting to and walking around Bath, we'll even tell you some of the history as we tour the amazing streets, parks, canals and River Avon.
We experience some of the attractions to help you decide what to see, like walking on the roof of Bath Abbey. Take a late-evening visit to the Roman baths and sample the famous mineral water at The Pump Room. Sally Lunn, created the now world-famous Bath Bun, join us for afternoon tea and find out if this rich buttery bun was delicious. Just a few of the things we get up to as we explore this World Heritage City, the only one in the country.
Just 90 minutes by train from London, what are you waiting for, visit Bath today!

Be sure to make time for sister city, Bristol, just 10 miles away. Visit the historic old city, harbourside and world famous ss great britain and the clifton suspension bridge built by Brunel. There's Lots to see as is much bigger than Bath but well worth it, full of energy, colour and entertainment of all kinds. Also has a cathedral, many, many churches and quirky areas such as Gloucester rd, Clifton village, park st, St michaels hill and more.

Even Bath is not immune to the barbarians. I recall reading a large illustrated book in my local library which showed the buildings that had been demolished in the name of progress. One of them was a beautiful detached Georgian building that had been swept away and in its place had been built......a concrete electricity sub-station.

Bath suffered heavily in WWII (Hitler's Baedecker blitz raids), so a considerable quantity of Georgian architecture was lost then. Unfortunately the city planners in the 1960s didn't rebuild areas sympathetically with what had survived, causing much outrage!

Thank you for your lovely tour around Bath. You have a calm pleasant voice and don't rush, yet show everything one would want to see. I especially like the view of the whole city from above to orientate oneself and see where things are in relation to each other. I have not seen this done by anyone else. My great great great .... grandfather was the organist at Bath Abbey for most of his adult life and you gave a very clear and good shot of the organ where he would have sat.

I used to stay in bath a lot many years ago. I’ve not been in some time, but really love Bath such a beautiful city. I live in Chester so more of a distance for me now to get the time to visit . I loved Sally Lunns Bath Buns house and stayed in Pultnety street it’s such a relaxing town so Beautiful and romantic. I love the fact that it has its own micro city I gave happy memories of my dad taking me there often to visit as a child snd as an adult. I really need to visit soon. My favourite author Jane Austen resided in Bath for a time in her life.

Wonderful! So much history and you've shared the information so well! I love how you show the maps, especially as I've read and seen so many period stories that mention these places; it's great to see where they are located in relation to each other. The Pump Room is so famous, and is likely featured half the 'Regency Romances' written. I've seen your other videos featuring places where Jane Austen lived or visited, and this provided the missing piece. I have to say, walking on a catwalk above that fan vaulting must have been an amazing experience. So enjoyable! Take care 'til next time.

I thought King Athaelred was the first King of England, unless I am confused and mistaken, as a lot of his history is here in the South West, where I live in Shaftesbury 30 minutes away from Bath. There is a Sally Lunn tearoom in the Tudor City of St.Albans, that I visited every weekend as a child. There were blue plaques on the olde walls talking about her history. Whether its all true who knows! Bath and its restaurants are now a hugely popular place to visit, not only during the day but especially in the evenings. Great video as always!! 🥰😁

Hi Simon! Sending love to both you and Will. 🍁❤️This is definitely one of my favourite episodes. I was in Bath in June of ‘88 and stayed for two nights at a B&B in a gorgeous Georgian townhouse on Great Pulteney Street. It wasn’t as crowded when I went. I nicknamed Bath “Little Venice.” You could rent your own small boat to take a peaceful ride on the canal. There were buskers playing the violin in the evening in front of the Abbey. The Roman Baths speak for themselves. From the gardens, architecture, engineering, canals, the whole atmosphere, Bath provides a captivating and idyllic experience. It really does feel like you’re stepping back in time. 💯 a must see if you’re visiting England. Simon, I do appreciate your little bits of English humour that you slide in here and there on your videos. When you were talking about the Sally Lunn Buns- “Although some of you will want to put the cream down first before the jam. I can see the comments coming now.” Thanks for a much needed lol. 😂🤣 Stay well til next time. ❤🇨🇦🇬🇧

I understand from hearing a Bath guide that the “Sally Lunn” got its name from the fact that on the original bun there was the sun (sol) on one side and the moon (lune) on the other. Over time the name derived into Sally Lunn.

We I’ve not heard that one and that is not mentioned in the museum shop. The story I recited was the tale they tell. Of course who knows if any of it is real! 😃As long as the buns sell and people enjoy them 😄

I have been there many times, where I attended high school nearby with many decent pictures, thanks for sharing such amazing episode The knowledge and stories that I never heard of, a great complement, will definitely share to those who coming to the UK. Also teaches me to slow myself down, instead of a more tight schedule. Worth a whole day long stay though.

The widest street in Bath Pultney street is that wide because horse and carriage can turn. Apparently one side was built first , it was tested by horse and carriage then the other side was built.

A quality documentary - as always. Better than the official German State TV. Greetings from the other side of the North Sea.

Such a wonderful video, and so much useful information and great tips. My daughter went to uni there, so I’ve visited a few times, but I’m meeting friends from California there on Sunday, so I might suggest we visit some of these places. Thanks to your video I’ve learned a few things about the city.
