I really hate cutting holes in roofs, but it was this or run 15 feet of vent hose through a gable end. Watch how I put a bath vent fan duct in my metal roof.

It's amazing how little information there is out there on how to install a bathroom vent in a METAL roof. Awesome video.

Omg it was torture watching you use the Malco adapter. A Metal grinder with a 4-1/2 inch circular blade at any hardware store for around $2-3 dollars would have saved you a lot of money on labor and that expensive adapter. But to each there own! For those wanting to DYI this project you don’t need this expensive Adapter.

This video really went a long way to help me install a roof vent today. I missed the importance at the part on why you used the hammer to tap in the ridge line, and had to adjust and use a little more silicon than I would have liked. But just wanted to share that your video helped me get it done. Thanks!

Tony thanks, glad the video gave you some help. I did this video in 100 degree heat on a brand new metal roof that was hot coming through the knee pads as I tried to keep from sliding off. I have done a few of these on shingle roofs which are much easier. Thanks for the nice reply!

I have a lot of customers who use the Haslet Frame that seals against water leaks and gives you a flat surface to install your fan.

Thanks DriveShaft Drew. We get so little rain out here that I may never find out. Plants and trees dying back everywhere. I guess that is why they call it a desert.

Just wondering why you didnt use insolated flexible bathroom venting? I dont know what location your in but up here in upstate NY snow and cold temps will have condensation running back into fan box like we did. I'm actually going to do this today as my heater guy cant be reached. The contractor I had install the original venting used cpvc 2 1/2" pipe screwed to two pieces of 2 x 6 under the sheathing. So all that pipe freezing cold, warm bath air hits it, counting to 5 slowly, and what do you have water streaming through decorative cover and down onto the floor in front of vanity. Enough so its a foot across on the floor theres so much water. But, this is a fantastic video on how to actually install the metal vent, thankyou. I bought one yesterday from true value, from the one you bought this one is cheap and tinny, bends super easy.

Really not planning on having any moisture issues. I am in northern Arizona. Little snow, little rain and lots of wind and heat. Thanks for the heads up on this moisture issue and i will keep an eye on it now that I know what could happen.

Great job. If it was me though, I would have moved it over a bit so you didn't have to mess with one of the major ribs. It would have been exponentially easier to cut our and seal the minor striations instead.

I'm just about to do that myself. What type/brand of ladder did you use? Those extensions look like a good idea to give some support working extended over the roof.

Nice tips. In Arizona I do not have that issue of extreme, continuous cold. I have an inspection port nearby the vent in the ceiling hallway so I can check and make repairs if I need to.

It almost looks like you could have put the unit between the ribs instead of over the ribs? Even if it was close couldn't you cut part of the vent to make it fit?
@SteveAZ711
@SteveAZ711 5 жыл бұрын
The trusses are below and I wanted to center it between the trusses. A flexible hose attaches underneath, as well. The idea is to center the vent between trusses and not between the metal ribs. You never want to cut into a truss. Always know what is below or behind before making any cuts.

Why not use a circular saw or right angle grinder with metal blade to cut the roof faster?
@SteveAZ711
@SteveAZ711 2 жыл бұрын
I suppose one could. In the end it is a matter of preference and what tools you may be skillful at, and how well you want to control the cut.

Preparation is the key. I usually spend the previous night going over in my mind just exactly what I need to do. I really can not afford to cut into a roof and not be prepared. Also the more of these I do the better I become at it. Just like everything else. Still working on an MC, its coming.

Even with a moisture barrier you should always have an air gap under your metal, you will have problems eventually.
@SteveAZ711

Yes, and it does have one provided by the staple spacers. It is those exact spacers that make sliding roof venting under the metal troublesome at times.

Caulking is never a good idea on a roof. It breaks down from sun exposure and will eventually crack and fail.
