I'm positive Quorthon was listening to Manowar when writing this and the next couple of Bathory albums: the lyrics of Enter the Eternal Fire tell the same story as Bridge of Death, they started incorporating a lot of epic, mythological and viking elements in the following albums. Bathory recommendations (categorised to help you pick what you'll like): Early raw stuff; "Sacrifice" and "Born For Burning". From the same album; "Call From The Grave" and "Woman of Dark Desire". Epic Black Metal; "A Fine Day To Die" and "Blood Fire Death". Viking Metal; "Shores in Flames" and "Bond of Blood" Power Metal(?!); "Gods Of Thunder, Of Wind and Of Rain".

He also has several super good thrash albums, Destroyer Of Worlds being my favorite among them. They just get underestimated because of his masterpiece black and viking albums.

Not my usual cup of metal tea, but this album is dark, heavy as hell and was seriously influential on Black Metal in the 90s.

Despite being heavily influenced by Motörhead, Venom, Metallica and Manowar, the great Bathory have influenced hundreds of bands on their own and are actually considered pioneers of both black and viking metal sub-genres. About the album artwork - it is a painting from a photo taken for that purpose - a Swedish bodybuilder wearing a mask on a theatre sets.

If you're not so keen on the black metal side, then I'd recommend the later viking albums. Blood Fire Death is still mostly black metal, but is a lot more like Enter the Eternal Fire. Hammerheart is where the Viking Metal side matured. Twilight of the Gods is practically a Viking-themed epic doom metal album. Blood on Ice is practically a Manowar album. Nordland I & II are the perfect capstones to the Viking Bathory sound. Songs I would recommend from the Viking albums: Blood Fire Death (1988): - A Fine Day To Die (I think you've already reviewed this one) - Blood Fire Death Hammerheart (1990): - Baptized in Fire and Ice - Father to Son - Song to Hall Up High - One Rode to Asa Bay Twilight of the Gods (1991): - Twilight of the Gods - Under the Runes Blood On Ice (1996): - Blood On Ice - The Lake - Gods of Thunder of Wind and of Rain Nordland I (2002): - Nordland - Ring of Gold - Great Hall Awaits a Fallen Brother - Mother Earth Father Thunder Nordland II (2003): - Blooded Shore - Sea Wolf - Death and Resurrection of a Northern Son - The Messenger - The Wheel of Sun
