Going to start a bathroom remodel and will be selecting tile, shower door, hardware, etc. next week. This video is both helpful and informative because it discusses some issues I did not think about such as the coating on a shower door and the benefit of larger tiles on the shower floor. Well done ladies.

You indicated that peel 'n stick is a NO as a backsplash. The last few vinyl wallpapers that iv purchased are nice and heavy, but have peel-off paper on the reverse and are not compatible with wallpaper paste. Was I confused by your answer, or is this type of wallpaper acceptable?
@emileeandlora3 ай бұрын
Sorry for the confusion!;) Vinyl wallpaper in a bathroom is great, however the peel 'n stick wallpapers can have a tendency to peel due to shower humidity. However, if you have a good bathroom fan, at your backsplash wall it might work well, but only if you have a countertop backsplash to paper down to. If the vinyl wallpaper is touching the countertop, over time you might get peeling behind the faucets or any other place where the vinyl comes into contact with water frequently. Thanks for your question!:)

Hi Ladies, I'm going thru video's looking for ideas for remodeling my bathroom when I came across your video. Great video and very informative. I especially liked the advice on the shower glass doors. Which brings me to my question. What do you ladies think about the half shower door? I thought this way I would also have less glass to clean and would make it appear open and larger. I also like the no step in shower. Any advice on that also? A real novice here!!!! haha Thank you!
@emileeandlora4 ай бұрын
Hi Diane. Great to hear that the video was helpful; we appreciate your kind words! We might need a picture - which you can send to our email - of the half shower door example. If "half" means not taking it to the ceiling, that works just fine and definitely can be a savings. If this isn't it, happy to provide more information, just need more details. We love curbless showers! Our advice is to find a contractor that is experienced in curbless showers especially in remodeling. Subfloor will need to be dropped, slopped and build up to flush out to your bathroom floor. Send our best with your remodel!:)

Hi there. Thank you for a great video. I am remodeling our house. For my bathrooms, I really like the look of having no backsplash. Since I’m planning to install wall porcelain tiles, I think it is okay? Am I thinking this correctly? Will water eventually make its way to back of my vanity? What kind of material is out there to seal that gap very tight permanently? Thank you.
@emileeandloraАй бұрын
Hi! Thanks for your kind words. You are correct, if you are tiling the vanity wall behind mirrors this can be the backsplash for your vanity countertop. A silicone caulk made for wet areas can seal gaps between countertop and backsplash tile.
@ps44025 ай бұрын
Great video! Tile question: We are renovating our tiny main bathroom, 5ft x 7ft. Shower to the right of the entrance, Sink and toilet to the left. We are replacing the tub with a low-curb shower. We are using green tile (Angela Harris Flatiron Aquamarine) on the floors (2x2 in the shower, 12x24 on the floor), White 12x24 tile on the shower walls. Our contractor suggests leaving the rest of the walls just painted white which is fine. Our problem is the vanity. Depth from the wall to the entrance door is 17" limiting choices.The vanities we are choosing from do not have a backsplash. What should we use? A strip of the white tile from the shower? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
@emileeandlora5 ай бұрын
If the budget allows, you can tile all the walls in the bathroom with the 12x24 white tile you are using in the shower, which will provide a backsplash for your vanity and choose a wall mounted faucet. With your limited vanity depth, you would need to install vanity before tiling and bring tile down to the countertop. If you are using a deck mount faucet, make sure your contractor accounts for the faucet spacing. Tile walls bring a lot of design impact to small bathrooms. If the white tile and your countertop are compatible whites, you can use the 12x24 cut to size w/ Schluter edge or deco tile edge. Another option is to find a countertop remnant that matches your countertop and have a backsplash cut for your space; this will need to be thin material (or milled down), because your vanity is very narrow and you need space for the faucet; or you can do a wall mounted or side faucet. Have fun with your remodel!:)

This sounds exactly like our main bathroom layout. What tile are you using for your curb?
@ps44023 ай бұрын
@@beccadigregorio9864 The tile went in last week and looks fantastic! There was a 3x24 bullnose in the Flatiron Aquamarine, so we used 6 of those for the curb. We used a coordinating 8x8 Dunmore Savona tile for the sink backsplash and shower niche. All from TileBar. Even through there are 3 different size tiles on the floor/shower, it appears seamless with the dark grout. I think this helps the space look larger.

Very helpful video! I’m planning a bathroom renovation and learned a lot to consider in the selection of materials. Question: have you used straight stacked and offset tiles in the same space? Im planning on using 15x30 polished porcelain tile for the shower walls and a different 12x24 matte tile on the bathroom floor. The shower floor will be a hex mosaic. Given the shower wall and bathroom floor tiles are 2 different sizes/tiles, I’m wondering if it will look too busy for both tiles to be 33% offset. I was wondering if it would look better to use straight stack on the shower tile and 33% offset on the floor tile. Our bathroom style will be transitional, and I prefer a less busy, but not modern look. What would you recommend?
@emileeandlora4 ай бұрын
We are thrilled to hear the video was helpful, thank you for sharing!! Yes, we do mixed pattern tiles throughout the room all the time. The large format tiles, especially if they have a pattern like veining, are better straight laid and we would definitely suggest the 33% on the floor. Love that you knew to do 33% and not 50%!:) Your bathroom will feel classic and timeless, which will beautiful for years. Have fun with your project! And, we would love to see pictures if you comfortable sharing.
@martyo1694 ай бұрын
@@emileeandlora Thanks so much for the quick and helpful response! Yes, I read that even though the tile website images shows 50% offsite (which is so pretty), that 33% is recommended to avoid lippage. Do you know if there is a concern with lippage with a straight stack?
@emileeandlora4 ай бұрын
Your welcome!:) Glad it was helpful. Lippage can happen on any tile lay pattern or size, however more common with large format, glass and ceramic tile. If porcelain is warped, lippage can be an issue too. An experienced tile setter can minimize or resolve this by adjusting with more or less adhesive in those areas and by not using warped or very uneven tiles. This is one of the reasons contractors order 10-20% overage, so they don't have to use the undesirable tiles. Uneven subfloors and walls can also be the culprit, so experienced installers will level check work surfaces before installing tile and use a level while installing.

Does grey color vanity, white floor and grey mixed tiles good for washroom renovation
@emileeandloraАй бұрын
Gray and white bathrooms have been popular for years now, however the undertone of the gray has changed from a blue-gray to a brown-gray. The white and gray tile combo like marble veining is a nice pairing with gray cabinets. However, white and gray bathrooms can come off cold (the brown gray helps minimize this), so pairing with gold and wood accents will help warm the space up.

In our small bath (vanity, toilet, tub) we are removing the tub and will have a glass shower. The 4x4 tile extend to the bathroom (4' from the floor). What do you recommend? Seems like too much tile? Thank you for your thoughts. 8' ceiling. Will run vertical tile (vertically per your great suggestion!).
@emileeandlora3 ай бұрын
@SeeGainie That's great, hopefully you will like the vertical impact of the tile as much as we do!:) Really makes a visual difference in rooms with shorter ceilings. Not sure we understand the 4x4 tile question, so if our response doesn't answer your question, please let us know. Assuming the 4x4 tile is on the shower floor only, the tile should not go beyond the shower curb or if curb-less, the shower glass.

when doing wall paper behind vanity in a powder room how many walls do I need to ideally put wall paper on ? so I have the vanity wall with the toilet and two other side walls and than the wall across vanity with the door to walk in - what is too busy?
@emileeandloraАй бұрын
More often than not, we will cover all four walls in a powder and sometimes even the ceiling. You can do this with busy patterns, which makes a big impact. If you like large patterns or lots of color, but your style is more conservative, you can use the large pattern on the mirror/sink wall for a pop of pattern and paint the other three walls a color that is in the wallpaper; don't forget to paint the ceiling too :)

I love your bathroom videos! I recently moved into a condo with older vanities and fixtures. I have a question about a framed shower. It has a stainless frame. It is a gorgeous large shower and I don’t want to replace it. Can I speak the frame to match my new fixtures? Is there such a spray paint. Melody from Naples Florida.
@emileeandlora2 ай бұрын
Thank you!! We appreciate your comment! Rust-oleum makes an automotive primer and paint, both spray paints, that seem to work well for plumbing fixtures. You might need to slightly sand metal with a very fine sand paper to help with adhesion. Safety First: Please use gloves and proper face mask when using paints and spray in ventilated space :)

In primary (master) and powder bathrooms we prefer wall or ceiling pendant sconces with a round mirror. In children's bathrooms for a less sophisticated aesthetic, we prefer the light above the mirror.

I love all the "inside" info. I'm in the middle of a bathroom remodel. What do you think of wall-mounted toilets vs. floor mount remodels?
@emileeandlora2 ай бұрын
That"s great to hear, thanks for sharing! Wall mounted toilets are easier in a new build because the home is framed and plumbed for wall mounted requirements; so in a remodel, the plumbing and framing re-work is harder and will cost more than a floor mounted toilet. It is important to vet the plumber and make sure they are experienced with intalling and servicing wall totilets; future service or repairs will cost more. We suggest determining wall thickness, reinforcement requirements, and plumbing labor requirements and costs before purchasing a wall mounted toilet. Hope this is helpful!:)

I have a question about bathroom mirrors and lighting. I no longer want a large one piece mirror over my sink. How do you decide the size of the mirror and fixtures to light the mirror and vanity space?
@emileeandlora5 ай бұрын
Great question, thanks for asking! A good ratio for choosing a light fixture width for above a mirror 70-80 percent of the width of the mirror; be sure to leave a minimum of 8"-10" from light shade to ceiling. Light sconces on the side of a mirror can be the length of the mirror to as small as 20-25 percent of the the mirrors overall length. Framed mirror to vanity sizing is a bit more involved as there are many things to consider, but one example is a single sink 48" vanity with overhead light can fit up to a 36" wide mirror. We hope this was helpful!:)
