I was nervous to do this on my own but after watching your video it was a breeze. Thank you!!!

excellent video. i have 2 Broan 9660 Deluxe Series Heat-A-Lite - 1500 Watts. both are 7.5 yrs. old and have the thermal discs, and both cut out after approximately 3 minutes of operation. i already vacuumed both in place and they still cut out. when i do fans/vents. i put the light covers and face plates in the dishwasher. also, on NON-HEATER vents only, i cover the inside of the metal housing with self-adhesive peel & stick felt pads. it really suppresses the fan noise. as soon as i recover from an injury, i will repair those 2 heaters. thanks for the excellent video.

The exact fan was in the house I grew up until the bathroom was remodeled back in 2012

I would also recommend oiling both motors, the heater motor will likely run like new.

That was the heater I showed oiling. Both got oil but the bearings on the heater motor are shot. High temps broke down the old oil and it took terminal damage before I got to it.

@@MetaphysicalEngineer oh, my bad, I have the same unit and for some reason thought that was the exhaust motor

I came here because I just noticed after 3 years that we do not have a switch for the fan in our master bathroom. Our front bathroom has 3 switches. But we have only the light and heater switch. Do you have any videos for that?
@MetaphysicalEngineer4 ай бұрын
Does the fan turn on with the light? Or do you just have light and heater but no fan?
@joannasingleton23894 ай бұрын
No the fan does not turn on with the light. In our other bathroom, there are 3 separate switches, and it’s the same exact fan, but there’s only 2 in our master bath.

I'd suggest getting an electrician to investigate. Sounds as though something strange happened during installation, or the original triple switch may have been replaced with a double switch.

good grief. We have 2 of these units in our 1991 Townhome. We do not use the heating element(s). My goal is to clean the fan. Any suggestions as to whether or not we need to disassemble the entire unit? Thanks. Good job!
@MetaphysicalEngineer Жыл бұрын
Disassemble as much as you need to or are comfortable with. If you never use the heaters, there's maybe less dust in that area, but the airflow from the exhaust fan will cause most parts of the unit to collect dust regardless. Here, the whole unit was filthy because it gets lots of use and had never been serviced. That said, bathroom fan units are somewhat frequently cited as cause for fires because of how much dust can accumulate so I wanted to clean everything to be safe.

I have a similar fan in my apt. The neighbors cigarette smoke is coming into my restroom… do i need to clean up my own fan like that or do i need to call a professional?
@MetaphysicalEngineer Жыл бұрын
Apartments sometimes have the vent pipes from many fans connected together, so the neighbor's smoke could be getting in that way. See if the smoke smell is better if you also turn on your bathroom fan to force air out instead of letting it in. I do recommend cleaning the fan anyways, but that might be a task for apartment maintenance crew or a pro because you could be blamed for damage otherwise.

What happened to that old kenwood amp?
@MetaphysicalEngineer2 жыл бұрын
It's still alive, just in storage at my parents' place 3000 miles away so difficult to feature it in any new vids. Eventually I'll get all my stuff shipped over.

Can you help in repairing the heater fan?

Polishing a turd. Lol. The lace says older lady lives there and landlord was to cheap to buy a new fan to install. Sigh. That detailed of a cleaning should cost more than a new fan, good work
@MetaphysicalEngineer9 ай бұрын
That place definitely had a bit of older charm, and money was indeed very tight for the landlady after the unexpected passing of her husband and additional surprise expenses. That's why I did this for free, knowing I'd get a video out of it and help other people along the way.
