Legendary Ford Factory Lead Driver Moffat had switched to a Mazda RX7 as Ford prepared to Ditch the 351 Cleveland V8 that also powered the De-Tomaso Pantera that sold like hotcakes in the US, Privateer Dick Johnson was way out in front when he met foul play so Authorities awarded race to Dick after declaring result on a finish on the Previous Lap then he went on the next year to total the "Greens Tuff" XE at Forest Elbow and having to borrow a car and spend the night preparing it before starting the race in Position 10 - Group A meant Dick swapped to the Less Powerful 302 Windsor Powered American Mustang

Tony B, love your comments👍. The 1981 crash shortened race was the one where Johnson was awarded the Bathurst win. For 1982, this True Blue Coil Spring XE race on the Video, his car was disqualified. 4V heads, illegal that year. A heads up, in 1979, Ford USA were worried about what pouring money into an old Canted Valve so-called "small block" Cleveland was going to do, so Henry Ford II in March 1979, in Australia with his Assistant Managing Director Edsel Ford II, made the tough call to ensure all mass production of the Australian 302C/351C and the US made tall deck 351M and 400 engines was to cease in 1982. By Corporate Edict. But at the very same time, Jack Roush and Robert Yates were given production permission to build Alloy 4V heads and make SVO Cleveland style engines on the Windsor Ontario and Essex Aluminum Escort CVH Canadian production tooling, so Ford USAs Holman Moody and SVO Motorsport were able to win NASCAR and ( for a time) NHRA Small block races with Cleveland style V8s. Ford's Group A Mustang 5.0 was totally a Mike Kranfeus SVO West German, Dutch, Australian and New Zealand effort to 1987, starting with the Computer Sales Belmondo 1982 Mustang the first. Ford then played a duplicity two part game...appearing to " Publically" kill off canted valve mass produced SBF engines, but supplying them to Race teams at NASCAR and NHRA racers. If they had continued to mass produce Cleveland's and 351Ms, General Motors should have then gone full scale on the Alloy head, Fuel injected 350s, so Ford decided never to build any factory 5.0 or 351 over 300 HP from 1976 to 1997. So Ford America's decisions were designed to keep motor racing support at a non Mass Produced Motor level. Just like SCCA Trans Am racing in 1968 and 1971, Ford Motor Company deliberately threw the Game, Many Times. To ensure GM didn't try to enter Motorsport again.

Real cars much more spectacular, the new stuff is complete rubbish. I’ve stopped watching Bathurst supercars, yet most of my life I would watch it from 7 o’clock till six or 630.

Totally agree Mark. I first watched Bathurst in 1976 and loved the group C and group A days. Loved the days when there was a huge difference in speed from the fastest cars to the slowest. What about the reaction of the drivers in commentary when they were faced with a pickup truck when exiting BP cutting. Priceless. It's never been the same since 1992. Long live Group C and A.

Dick Johnston cruising with illegal 4V heads and a reprofiled 2V 4bbl intake. The 82 True Blue was disqualifed with engine illegalities..Ford owned 35% of Toyo Kogyo ( Mazda!) at that time. Through Motorcraft, Ford's Toyo Kogyo investment, a huge percentage of FoMoCo Worldwide money was pumped into Australian Motorsport that year. When big players come to your sandpit to play, don't sh!+ in the nest. Dick may have had a bad year a Bathurst, but he made every race one a Nissan, Ford, Mazda, Holden or BMW, Rover or Jag guy could be proud of. Cause you weren't racing against some Old Hack ...

No front sway bar. Big 351V8 allowing the front to bounce from side to side pushing or puting outward force in the rear causing extra tail on a tail heavy vehicle. Brilliant driving.. damn what a cool Queenslander. As for the smelly rice burner doin just fine for its engine size. Very little pollution regulations on them. The catalystic converter is well below standards of regular engines.. It's why they had to stop selling them soon after that model..decade or so. The FD RX7...was a really fine automobile for the price..equal in many ways to a Ferrari for less than a quarter of the price. Shame really..they bought the design of the Brits who bought it off the Germans. Early WW2 English fighter planes used them. The Mazda company just mastered them..such a Shame..cool cars. Or wog chariots as they are also known.. ❤️

The Falcon was not a tail heavy car. It had a large, all-iron motor at the front! Your idea of how sway bars affect handling - or how a missing one affected this Falcon - is wrong. Mazda was still selling rotary engine cars 29 years after this race. Catalystic (?) convertors had nothing to do with racing an RX7, or any other car, back then. Didn't effect road cars either. In Australia, catalytic converters weren't required at all, until 1986. NSU didn't sell the rotary engine design to Britain. Half a decade after Mazda started selling rotary engine cars, a prototype of a large diesel rotary was developed, to go in British tanks. The project was canned. No Brit vehicles were ever tested or sold, with a rotary engine. In Australia, 'wog' was a nickname (and often a slur) for Greek people. Mazda is a _Japanese_ company. 🤦🏼‍♂️ Greeks come from Greece. Japanese people come from Japan. The two countries are *tens of 1000s of km apart!*

Sopwith Camel was a Piston Radial Engine where the Crankshaft remained stationery and the Radial Engine Block was directly connected to the propeller and spun around the Crankshaft - Original Prototype of Hitler's People's Car used such an engine design that was minimized to 5 Cylinders and mounted flat under the back seat that by necessity had to sit higher, Porsche Flat 4 Boxer was chosen instead. Citroen Bought NSU Wankel Pistonless Rotary Design and soon sent them Bankrupt to be saved by Peugeot while NSU was bought by Auto_Union Audi who disconnected NSU Brand and had trouble providing Warranty backup for the NSU's Sold.
