Funny enough, this was the first Batman serial I bought on DVD. I really enjoyed it for what it was, even though its been a while since I seen either serial. I remember "The Wizard" in this serial, although he did look more like a villain from a comic book (not the actual Batman comics), he was rather generic. I also remember the Bat Signal in this serial, which was basically a transparent bat emblem in some clouds, also there were a couple of moments where Robin used a mini bat signal to frighten some of The Wizard's goons. Great Video. Gonna need to re-watch these sometime so I can give you my full thoughts on them.

I remember seeing this serial on Saturday afternoon TV. They had adapted the serial to a movie format. I only ever saw it once but I never forgot it.

Ok, here’s some insight....in order to get the most of Batman and Robin 1949, you have to watch it in context with the Superman serials. So...watch Superman 1948, Batman and Robin 1949, and finally Superman 1950. (and if you can pull that off, you deserve a medal) Here’s why: They use some of the same actors and in some instances, the same lines! “...I don’t know, you figure it out.” (A line used in both serials). That way, you can get a feel for what they were trying to do. And another thing....contrary to popular belief the ‘49 serial influenced the Adam West TV show more than the one from ‘43. (Labels for the X90 Box, the ridiculously huge blowtorch on Batman’s utility belt, the bad guy submarine). Just some stuff I observed. Have fun.

Nice to see people talking about the serials. The only thing I’d like to mention is that the uncut masters for these were done by Sony and released on dvd in two disc sets by them originally. Later on mill creek licensed them and released one set which crammed everything onto single discs. So if you’re going to pick them up the quality of the Sony two disc releases are better, but the mill creek release is dirt cheap.

Yep, I know. I grabbed the Mill Creek set as it was more affordable and also included one of the old serials of The Shadow as well. For the same price I got this set, I would have been able to get one of the Batman serials (the Sony release has been out of print for a while now). I know the picture quality is slightly better, but I'm on a tight budget so Mill Creek it was.

Damn Fool Idealistic Crusader , thanks. I own the earlier DVD releases (2 DVD disks per serial, 4 total) and always wondered if there was a difference. FWIW: The packaging of the DVDs and the disc labels are just fun to look at. They did some work to make the serials look good.

Really wish they'd put in just a little more effort in this one. I know superheroes had begun to fade out by this time, but conisdering it was one of the two top icons of comics and that George Reeves' Superman was just around the corner, they probably could've had at least enough of a hit to earn a 3rd or even an actual proper movie and may e TV show like Superman got. And of all superheroes Batman at this time was the best shot at success if handled right. Kids and adults were still into crime shows and scary semi-noir or monsters (all of which Gotham and his Dick Tracy-esque-rogues-on-the-next-level were perfect for). And enough liked comics to like the idea. And at this point Batman had its secomd generation of fans starting. What a shame. Who kniws what we might've goften if this had been given more attention and quality.

I had the same question about the manor... it looked like Beaver Cleaver's house, and then the "Professor" has a house like Windsor Castle... I love the scenes where Batman is in his goofy uniform meeting with people who are wearing suits and fedoras... it cracks me up

Honestly is it just me or does the wizard look a bit like hooded justice from watchmen
@zaranyzerak5 ай бұрын
He does a bit, yeah. Entirely possible this was, at least in part, inspiration for it. I know Moore and Gibbons drew on a LOT of comic history and tropes for Watchmen, wouldn't surprise me if they slipped a few "deep cut" references like that in there.

I know I am alone in this but I like these Serials better than the 60s show. Still love the 60s show but I like these better. Wish they had another serial to give Joker a movie serial and finally go through their plans in the first one.

To each their own, I just hate it when super heroes were used as mouth pieces for war propaganda, it's even worse when it's Batman.
@manehriimao20792 жыл бұрын
@@millabasset1710 Only the 1943 version was used for war propaganda. The 1949 was after World War 2 was over and it was much better than the first one.
@RobotPorter5 жыл бұрын
1949 is fairly late in the history of serials. There are a few good ones in this era. But most of the great ones are much earlier.

Yes, it's the post-wartime one, so definitely eases up on the racial stereotyping not being forced to shoehorn in propaganda.
