Andrea Romano is probably the best casting director in American animation history. All of her shows are impeccably cast. It's always the right voice whether the choice is obvious (Adrienne Barbeau as Catwoman) or outside the box (Mark Hamill as the Joker). Through her work with Warner Bros in the 90's she spearheaded the transition from the cartoony voice acting of shows like Scooby-Doo, Transformers, He-Man etc to a more natural, radio drama reminiscent, "serious" voice acting style that has become the standard in all non-comedic cartoons.
@orboobleck53663 жыл бұрын
I did not realize until you pointed it out the change in voice direction. There was quite a jump in quality in the 90’s. Cool to learn.

I mentioned in a comment for the "Be A Clown" episode that the reason Jordan looked off was because they hadn't figured out how to draw children yet. They did better in "I've Got Batman In My Basement" and "The Underdwellers", but from what I remember Kimberly was the first child character Bruce Timm was really happy with when it came to the character design.

When you mess with kids, Batman takes that extra personally. This is one of those episodes that you don't really appreciate as a kid, but when re-watching it as an adult, you realize just how good it is. I do think we are supposed to feel sympathetic towards the villain even a little bit. To me, that's been the main theme for the Batman rogues' gallery; no matter how evil the villain is they always come from a place of sympathy. Harley Quinn's domestic abuse, Mr. Freeze's lost of a loved one, Two-Face's mental health, etc.

I remember this episode. See the thing is for Ventrix it's already been way too late for any redemption with his wife and kid ever since he became a corrupted criminal who would never change and that invisible suit only made him worse. It was just a good thing Kimmy was raised and taught well by her mother.
@WhiteFangofWar3 жыл бұрын
16:20 'Damn it, Clark always makes this look easyyyy!' Finally a one-off villain who isn't a pure hate sink. He's still nasty though, unlike Mr. Freeze who repeatedly warned Batman not to get involved. Ventrix doesn't seem to get the idea that his wife wanted a separation because of his habit of thievery.

There are some great Batman Beyond notes in this. Bruce used this same invisible technology to update into his Beyond suit; a future Batman Beyond villain will used a similar suit that allows him to go through solid objects (the Beyond episode "Sneak Peek"); plus an added bonus, the actor who voiced this villain voiced Walter McGinnis, Terry's father. By the way, "Peakaboo" quote I love that. Batman is so cheeky.

That sound clip at the end. Now you have to watch the 1933 version of The Invisible Man starring Claude Rains and Gloria Stuart (Old Rose from Titanic). The special effects still hold up and Griffith is a wonderful villain. You should all react to it. It is a short one at 71 minutes. This Batman episode was great too. Yeah, Momma Ventrix isn't purely the good-guy in this situation. Daddy Ventrix is a jerk and a thief, but supervised visits or something should have been on the table. Taking a kid away from a parent completely (and telling a child bad things about the parent) can absolutely be bad for a kid. She wants revenge on Daddy Ventrix, but the kid is gonna suffer. To be clear, her decisions are the lesser of two evils (compared to his), but she could have handled it better for the child's sake.

This was a long series, they had to have some monster of the week types to fill out the schedule. Part of the reason stuff like Joker episodes work is cause he doesn't show up all the time (and other characters show up even less- Two Face only gets three storylines that aren't villain teamups)

@@TheJokerAkaCirque Exactly, it would get old if it were the same set of rogues causing trouble all the time. I noticed that a lot of the one-shot baddies like Boss Biggis and Red Claw are devoid of the sympathetic qualities the rogues have, but Ventrix is a bit more relatable.

As much as they wanna play this dude as a villain, why on earth should he reform is no matter what, he will never see or be with his daughter? I never thought this was "Just" to keep kids away from their fathers. If there is never a middle ground given, then fathers like this dud have no reason to not wanna go to extremes.
@Scott-ql2kx3 жыл бұрын
Are you dumb? He sure could have seen her if he reformed. He didn't, wouldn't, and never gave any sign that he was ever going to do so. Not to mention he also had a restraining order, and constantly grabbed at his ex-wife while she was near him, so it's not like he was some regular divorced dude lmao.
@gutz19813 жыл бұрын
@@Scott-ql2kx Are you dumb? You really think its so simple in that "Just reform and you will see your daughter." This guy may have been a petty criminal and never been any kind of abuser and that is all any judge would need to grant a restraining order and give full custody to the mother and NEVER let this dude see his daughter if the mother said "I want him out." There are stories of mother in-laws convincing their daughters to leave their husbands because a psychic said the dad was doing something "nasty" to the kids. And the daughter believed it and mother and daughter convinced their kids to "Hate daddy" and force the judge, despite no physical evidence to take away the k!ds. Even the judge wrote a letter to the kids to read when they turn 16 that he was sorry he took their father away, and that there was no evidence, but he had to do it and that the kids should try to reconnect of their own accord." Look it up, you will see a number of different stories of how kids are taken away from dads and in number of cases, after losing hope, those dads go to extremes to either see their kids or get them back. So no, I am not dumb. I am allowing myself to accept that there may actually be other possibilities to a story as to why a father would go to such extremes.
