And that scene is what actually hints towards Joker's real danger: he might be insane but he is *unbelievably* smart, borderline genius. Easily as smart as Batman, if not even more so.

I love how Joker manipulating Harley was almost entirely accidental. He was simply talking about Batman, but was doing it in such a way that Harley assumed it was her, then when Joker realised she was internalising what he was saying, he doubled down on it

+Christopher Nolan The Joker is a pathological liar who constantly construes the truth to fit his means for his own end. So even what you read in The Killing Joke is a lie. The Joker doesn't have an origin story. And that's what makes the Joker, THE JOKER. He even says so in the graphic novel that "One day it's one thing, the next it's another, if I'm going to have a past I prefer it to be multiple choice!"

@animangacircle 8 жыл бұрын
+Juan Salinas Origin stories for DC characters is more or less up in the air for writers. Even Batman and Superman who have well known origin stories have had their origin stories change over the years. Even if only just slightly. I think the only difference is while DC has pointed out which origin story is actually canon for a certain universe for some, for the Joker they never specifically pointed at one origin and said "That one is the canon." However, fans love the Killing Joke comic and think that this is the Joker's true origin and it would make sense because the story plays with his own ideas of what life is about. He was a man who had a bad day, but while the Joker does say "Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another" really only pertains to the fine details. One of the things that remained consistent even among the many different origin stories DC has printed was that he was a failed comedian who took on a job by the mob to the Ace Chemicals plant and fell into acid which changed him. Always that falling into a bat of acid. So really, I think it is for the fans to decide what the real story is and I believe most fans love the Killing Joke the most because of how great and tragic of a story it really is...and how amazing and sadistic Joker is in that story.
@DamienTepps
@DamienTepps 8 жыл бұрын
You're entitled to make what you want about what you read on certain issues, but it's only head cannon. And no, the "tragic comedian" isn't a staple in many of his origin. His origins aren't touched on much at all in most cases. What the hoi polloi believe is irrelevant to the fact. And the fact is we no nothing about the Jokers origin except lies.

That's actually what makes Batman villains so impressive. Every single one of them is a version of him that could of been. Zsasz and Penguin born into rich families and turned into a serial killer and a mobster through twisted fates. Two-face a man of law split into two by tragedy, and the Joker having a day of hell cracking his sanity. That's why the killing joke is so fascinating. Batman is the first patient. He's the one who escaped.

Harley Quinn is your classic 'High INT, Low WIS' character. She's actually quite intelligent, but has poor impulse control and gullibility. She is capable of empathy and compassion, but lacks a strong moral center-she actually wants to do right, but looks to others to tell her what is right to do. The Joker knew all he needed to do was provide a puzzle for her to solve, something to enchant her. She's fooled by pretty neon lights (and clown paint) precisely because she understands the world as a mechanism, cold and analytical, but not as something warm and beautiful. She never got anywhere close to understanding him.

I'll never understand why this game is the black sheep of the series. The side missions weren't nearly as good as Arkham City, sure, but the main story was incredibly interesting, engaging and well done. The entire Arkham series is the story of Batman and The Joker and they did a great job at telling the story of how it all began. As a game that came out just to hold you over during the wait between City and Knight it was fantastic. I think the only issue is that they weren't absolutely clear in their marketing that this was a game being made by a totally different team that should not be looked at as the Rocksteady sequel to the first two games, which was probably done on purpose to sell more games. So, it makes sense that people buying it for that reason would feel betrayed and not like the game. But as someone who was fully aware that this game was just "Here's the mechanics you know by a different team telling a different story" the game was really awesome.

These two lunatics want to escape the asylum. Only way out is through the rooftops, so they make their way up. Only thing between them and freedom is a big gap between the building they're on and the next. First guy jumps, no problems, second guy? "Not a chance!" He says. First guy brandishes his flashlight. "Here, this light has a strong beam, you can walk across it as I shine it under you!" Second guy looks at him and says, "What do you think I am, crazy? Harleen was actually very bright, as she would need to be in order to be a psychologist, but she let her loneliness and desire for a solid human connection cloud her judgment. She fooled herself into thinking she was in love. Once she becomes Harley Quinn, as she once noted in the comics, she played dumb for Joker's sake so that she could reshape herself in an image she assumed he would love the most.

So Joker accidentally seduced Harley. It’s not like he meant to do it on purpose. He was talking about Batman, but Harley thought it was her. And she made a move, and Joker took it an ran. This whole abusive relationship between her and the joker was all her doing. She misinterpreted it. It’s what joker does. He just goes with the flow and makes do with what he has, which is what he did here. So it wasn’t all Harley’s fault, but it was mainly hers.

Matthew Stryletz Wasn't the main problem in Knight to most people the focus on so many Batmobile segments? That really wasn't as bad as people made it out to be, mostly due to the fact that you didn't NEED to use it as much as the devs obviously wanted you to... at least outside of the side missions that involve it (like those stupid ass Riddler courses). Origins' problems for a lot of people were in the heart of the game, that being while playing as Batman lol. Had there been less Batmobile segments in Knight, and Origins had less QTE and forced mashing segments, both would have probably been beloved all the more lol.

Someone very, very special, but whose real name I don't even know yet! Many years later... What's the matter Batman? No witty comeback? No threat? Then I'll provide the narration. I'll begin with how I peeled back the layers of the boy's mind. Oh he bravely tried to fight it at first. You would've been proud to see him so strong. But all too soon the serums and the shocks took their toll... and the dear lad began to share such secrets with me, secrets that are mine alone to know... Bruce. It's true Batsy! I know everything! And kinda like the kid who peeks at his Christmas presents, I must admit, it's sadly anticlimactic. Behind all the stern and batarangs you're just a little kid in a play-suit crying for Mommy and Daddy! It'd be funny if it weren't so pathetic... Oh what the heck! I'll laugh anyway! In this scene we see the Joker describing in rich words his love for Batman and Haley thought he was talking about her, that's why she fell in love with him and became Harley Quinn. Joker's obsession with Batman made him crazy when they first met because he saw in Batman some of himself or even himself entirely. He felt lonely throughout his whole life, like he couldn't relate to anyone really and everything changed when he met Batman. HE LOVES BATMAN, hes obsessed with him and, believe it or not, he wants to help him in his own twisted fucked up way.

Bakesale59 Dont think of Origins as truly canon. More like a retelling of events from an unreliable narrator. Neither Paul Dini nor Sefton Hill had anything to do with this game, and thats sad since their Arkamverse was Batman close to perfection. Im pretty sure the only reason Origins was made was because Warner Bros wanted to capitalize more on the previous games, and wasn´t willing to wait the 4 years development would take to the next generation. The writers on this game was from Assasin´s Creed, who shit on their own story material for every new game. the director was your average sandbox dude. The entire game was a cash-grab

You know what's freaky? He's right. Everything about him was planned and made to lead up to one moment. His situation was carefully manipulated so he could become the Joker. An outside power molded him like clay, with only one purpose in mind: to oppose the Batman. And you know who was responsible for that? The writers.
