In the animated series, at least Joker just hits Jason with a crowbar a few times, and (memory may not be right) Joker only kept him for a few days, then Todd managed to get out of the chair on his own when Joker left him with a ticking bomb and locked the door - though he still got caught in the explosion That’s how Jason became RH in that iteration, it was far more forgiving In the game, Jason’s kept with Joker for 2 goddamn years… Fucking hell, I don’t know how any human being is capable of handling that much stress, at that point your immune system and everything else would start failing you I’m surprised Todd didn’t do some Godhand shit, even the emotionally distant Griffith only handled under a year of torture and was broken, yet Jason managed to be an anti-hero in the end, big props to him

That doesn't feel like good writing though. The original Red Hood killed because he saw that killing people like the Joker could prevent deaths like his, and the pain that someone like Batman felt for it. The original Jason was beaten for minutes, not hours, or days, or years. That's some fucked up sociopathic level of writing to think you need to sink that low to write a compelling character. What are you talking about? Jason was revived by R'as Al Ghul in tge movie. In the infinite crisis comics, Superboy Prime's reality-shattering punch raised Jason from the grave. There are too many people assuming they know what they're talking about because it was in an animated feature. While DC animations are well produced and interesting, they veer from the source material as much as the films do. Referencing the animated features as if they're canon is kinda silly, given that every medium compiles different events in the comics as a hodge podge.

I read a wattpad story, the name is "just another robin" and it's about jason being forgotten amongst the bat family, especially by bruce, and the bat family, excluding bruce until later on, tries to make him realize he's in the bat family. There was this particular moment that truly hit me in the gut, but before i tell it to you, the writer changed some things, so you won't get confused. Damian was talking to jason, "I do not know what you were to my father, or my father was to you, but nevertheless you once held the mantle of Robin. Your logic does not make sense to me. Why did you not return after you came back?" They both knew what it was like to die, but the aftermath were dramatically different. Jason finally snapped and shouted, "You wanna know why?!" he continued shouting, "Because i clawed my way out of my own damn grave and Bruce never even knew it. I was in a coma and then i spent a year as a brain dead zombie on the streets that he patrols every night." Jason's voice betrayed him. "And then when Talia finally kicked me into a Lazarus Pit, i came back to find that i had already been long replaced and the bastard that murdered me was still out there killing people. I didn't have a place there anymore, i didn't have -Robin.- My empty slot in the 'family' had already been filled." he continued, "So i became Red Hood. And even now nothing has changed to Bruce, Jason Todd is Dead. Why do you think he still keeps the memorial case up?" Jason continued, his voice rising, "Damian, he views me as his biggest failure. Because i'll never be talented like Dick, or smart like Tim, or his actual son like you. All i was to anyone was a street rat pretending to be a hero." Damian was staying oddly quiet. "I'm the one the other Robins are told not to be like. I was a soldier that was too messed up to follow orders and got himself killed." He shouted. "But no one ever cared to ask about that little tidbit where my own mother was the one who betrayed me and handed me over to the Joker." Jason continued, Loudly. "That's why i couldn't go home then, and why i certainly can't now. Because all i was to Bruce was a defective Robin." Jason finished. This really shows how his life was just as messed up as bruce's, but the difference was that no one really cared about it until they finally realized their mistake. (In this story)

Dont blame Tim Drake for killing him either, while Tim Drake's torture wasnt as bad as Jason's it was still terrible. (Robin was patrolling alone one night. Upon hearing a scream of terror, Robin thought he was saving a lone woman from thugs but instead, fell into a trap set by the Joker and Harley Quinn. For three long weeks, at the old Arkham Asylum, Tim was mercilessly tortured with electro-shock and chemical injections. The Joker also took the opportunity to implant a microchip at the base of Tim's skull that contained an encoded version of the Joker's DNA and memories. During the course of the torture, the Joker learned the precious secrets entrusted to Robin. Not content with just destroying Tim's mind he sought to further humiliate Batman. To this end, the Joker transformed Tim into a crude version of himself. Tim's skin was bleached white, dying his hair green and twisting Tim's mouth into a grotesque Joker-like grin. Because of the torture and makeover he endured for the three weeks, he was also rendered unable to communicate in any way except with demented laughter. Renaming him "Joker Junior" aka "J.J." the Joker claimed Drake as his and Harley's new son, and planned on using Drake to destroy Batman. During the battle that followed, the Joker gave Tim a gun and ordered him to kill Batman with it. Tim laughed uncontrollably and fought with the choice whether or not kill Batman. He finally killed the Joker instead, after which he completely broke down in the arms of Batgirl. After these events, Commissioner Gordon quickly covered up the incident and nothing was ever made public.) -This is all from the Batman Beyond: the return of joker movie, this paragraph was written on this website: batman.fandom.com/wiki/Tim_Drake_(DC_Animated_Universe) But yes, the Joker has every right to be killed because of what he has done to these 2 poor boys :(

that's just the thing, Bruce Wayne is not a stable person to begin with. He was traumatized as a child by his parents murder to the point he vows to fight crime behind the mask of Batman. None of his actions taken ever since his childhood trauma was logical to begin with. He was so illogically afraid of murder so much that he just can't help but let a psychotic killer like Joker go free. A person doesn't make rational decisions when they've experienced trauma and became mentally unstable. So him saying "Don't pretend to understand" actually makes more sense than Jason could have thought at that moment. He wasn't saying that just because of the obsession towards his no killing moral code alone. A large part that fuels that obsession over the rational decision to kill Joker was because he was just so afraid of murder and becoming a murderer. simple as that. Joker enjoys killing the shit out of everyone and he knows the fact that Batman can't kill despite the fact he comes to beat his ass everytime, that's why he said that they need each other. Joker is both everything Batman is afraid of and are fighting against and Batman is everything Joker is not.

I think people misunderstood something about Batman during Jasons death. People kept thinking Batman doesn’t care or that Batman was refusing to cross his no killing rule. But after Jason’s death was when Batman was at his most brutal in his entire career. Infact Tim Drake (The one after Jason) Stood up and Became a Robin because he was scared that Batman might cross the line without someone to help him through his grief. Batman was slowly descending into his anger and was very VERY close to dropping his morals for good. But Tim Drake stepped in before Batman could fall and became a shining ray of Hope in Batman’s life. I mean in the Arkhamverse we know that Tim reminds Batman of Jason, when Batman accidentally calls Tim, Jason. Tim says “Huh you haven’t done that in awhile” implying that Tim reminds Batman of Jason. Essentially Batman was about to start killing but Tim reminded Batman of Jason, and got him through his Grief. Without Tim, Batman would’ve no doubt killed someone (Probably the Joker). What I don’t understand is why all the inmates tortured him at all, Inmates like Bane typically don’t Torture like that. Infact Arkham Bane was actually one of his more honorable incarnations, I get that there all psychopaths. But I can’t see some of these guys like Penguin and Two-Face genuinely being interested in Torturing a Child. Me personally if I was told to torture Robin and I found out the kid was barely older than my siblings, I wouldn’t do it.

@Space_Ghost_Hunter Жыл бұрын
Good points. But to your last point I think its obvious why they would torture him. Arkham is a horrible place, it's torture for the villains, who are in there following some failed plot thwarted by Batman. From a position of power I'm Gotham to being confined to a padded room. So these villains are at their most angry and vengeful of Batman, but they can't torture Batman, but Robin is the next best thing. As for Robin being a kid I doubt that would make any difference to any of them. He was even younger when he took them on face to face and probably stomped them stupid. Giving them the impression of him "acting like a man" and thus deserving of adult consequences, which many abusers use to justify their actions. Furthermore, the villains in Batman are often restricted in their full ferociousness by the fact that Batman in many iterations is marketed towards kids. Often resulting in them being a vehicle for some kind of lesson about people, or having cartoony objectives like the time Joker started selling his own brand of smiling fish. Which makes them seem, at times, sympathetic and potentially redeemable. But in the more mature iterations the full extent of their depravity can be explored, and we're reminded that at their core they are sadistic and psychotic animals who are literally criminally insane and capable of anything, no matter how sick. However, I don't really dig people trying to perpetuate the theory he was SA'd; as there's nothing to actually suggest that ever happened in any Batman comic ever, let alone the games. And it's actually kind of gross to even think about so I don't know why anyone would think its appropriate or something legitimately intended in the narrative. 🤮 I think my first point owes more to the mentions of Joker letting inmates use Jason to "blow off steam". Imagine you're Bane and you're raw after just being remitted to Arkham once again, and then Joker says he has the kid that once gave you a serious beating and totally emasculated you, tied up in am abandoned part of Arkham and you can go smack him around if you want. I figure each villains methods varied according to their powers but I think it ultimately amounted to just brutal beatings mixed with long periods of being left bound in a dank, dark, disgusting room slowly going insane until someone comes and starts beating him again while telling him Batman doesn't care about him. Really, the psychological aspect is the worst of what Robin went through. He was one of, if not the toughest Robin, even Batman couldn't understand how they beat him, but Jason was the most psychologically vulnerable Robin, and Joker played off that. Anyways, just some thoughts. Cheers mate.

in general rule, snyder just wants things to be dark for the sake of it even if it comes at the price of substance or the cost of well developped characters batman is batman because of his morals and him as a person, if you have an alternate universe where batman is the opposite then you might just create a new character that doesn't have anything to do with batman other than looks i could say the same for superman, how any other movies or series on him gave him restrictions because his morals made it that he had to to his task while saving everyone from danger, the challenge wasn't an opponent stronger than him, but an opponent that could cause enormous collateral damage or keep a large population in hostage while doing the deeds like in BvM or Man of steel, superman gives zero shits and destroys hundreds of buildings while fighting his opponent, like when he pushes zod's head against a building while flying, collapsing it, or him going the other side of the planet to destroy a flying thing while he had immediate dangers to take care of first at least in joss version of justice league, he kept the part where batman talked about his mortality and how close he neared death a few hours before, but naaah, snyder go brrrrr

One other thing I'd like to add onto what everyone's saying: The Joker is insane and twisted and pure evil. True. But what makes him what he is is that *he KNOWS it.* He knows for a FACT that he's horrible, he knows what he's doing, knows he's good at it, and he uses that fact to his advantage. The reason Harleen Quinzel got with him and went all clown? She thought she could save him. He manipulated her into thinking she could make him better, and was making him better, until he dropped the bomb (almost literally) and she became Harley Quinn. The reason he has a different backstory every time you ask? Because he WANTS you to fall into the "I Can Fix Him!" train. He wants you to think he's redeemable. The true evil of The Joker lies in his complete and utter 100% cognizance of everything in his mind, and his knowledge that other people don't know that. THAT'S why as long as Joker lives, he is always dangerous, never safe, and should never be trusted. As long as Joker is alive, the horrible things that happen in his wake will never stop. And he knows that. On the other hand, his ultimate goal is to die at the hands of Batman. If Batman kills Joker, Joker wins. Because Joker amps up every single time only to see just how far Bruce will go until snapping and killing him. He always puts the knife in Batman's hands (sometimes literally), but Batman doesn't kill him because he KNOWS that that's what Joker wants. The Joker's whole existence revolves around the perpetual cycle of Batman and his villains, simply because he's Batman's greatest villain. He is the antithesis of what Batman stands for in every way. And one of the things Batman stands for is "never kill." And so he kills and kills and kills until Batman finally caves. That's where the real horror of the Joker lies. He's just playing a game, one where no matter who Bruce can save, no matter how many times Bruce locks him away, no matter if Batman were to shoot him in the face, Joker ALWAYS wins.
@thegoldavenger.38293 жыл бұрын
And the terrifying thing is that in some versions of Batman, the most recent being Batman Who Laughs, he actually does cross that line and literally became joker because of it. Granted it was because joker had a drug in his system released upon death that would turn anyone near him into jokerized people but still Batman himself, without that joker toxin, would have nothing left holding him back if he were to cross the line.
@xenolenoo2 жыл бұрын
Actually, there is a way for the joker to lose: die of natural causes, and have Batman be killed by someone unaffiliated with Batman or the joker. It’s been seen multiple times that the joker has saved Batman’s life when it’s not him about to kill Batman. Then, the joker wouldnt have anyone to “play with”.

@FinnicVoice no excuses for DC, they easily could have integrated that in the Arkham games or Animated movies, just Batman beating the absolute crap out of the Joker. I really didn’t get much out of The Robert Pattinson trailer because he just messed up a random thug I couldn’t give a damn about. For people wondering how Batman didn’t find him, let me explain Now yes, Joker sent Batman a footage of Jason’s death, which made Batman think Jason died (when he didn’t) but it’d not just that, the reason why Batman couldn’t find Jason was because there was no clue... there wasn’t a hint from Joker, no tracking, nothing. Detectives always are given clues to solve but unfortunately, Batman had no clue of hint to solve on where Jason could be which made him clueless. He probably searched every place where Joker has been and he just gave up. Which is why Batman put a tracker on Dick and (probably) Tim’s suit so whenever they get lost, they will have a tracker so Batman can find them.

I still prefer what happened in Under the Red Hood and I'll explain; I love the twist that Jason isn't angry at Batman for not saving him, he's angry and rightfully calls out Batman for letting the Joker live after that. Batman was close, heartbreakingly close to saving him, and he failed. The set up was already perfect for Jason to still be hurt by not being saved. But that's not why he's angry, and he makes that perfectly clear. It's a wonderful twist that directs the light on Batman's code. Nevermind that he is still fighting to clean up crime just not having qualms about killing people Don't get me wrong the Arkham storyline is horrifically tragic and Jason went through way more than in Under the Red Hood, there's nothing wrong with the Arkham storyline. I just think it's so dark that there is no way that you could have done the original twist with this set up. Of course Jason would be a much more broken personality after what happened in the Arkham storyline, but his main motivation for revenge still seemed to be that Batman didn't find him. Again, perfectly understandable and a twisted storyline, but it's kind of exactly what you would expect for Jason's motivations after he went through all that. There's nothing about his motivation that challenges Batman's core values, mainly because Joker is already dead. And on top of it Jason's working for the Scarecrow who is going to kill/torment millions of people if he succeeds just to get back at Batman. Again, it's completely understandable in this storyline, it's just exactly what I would expect given these circumstances. In short, the Arkham storyline is tragic because of what happened to Jason and how helpless Batman was to do anything to stop it (Jason turned off his tracker because he wanted to kill the Joker and the Joker for once didn't give Batman any clues whatsoever to find him). The Under the Red Hood storyline is tragic because of how the event changed Jason and how close Batman was to averting it Regardless, I still want one bloody storyline where I get to see Jason show up on the doorstep, ready to come home, and Alfred drops any pretenses and embraces him in a fit of sobbing. While I would love to see Bruce do this too, I have a hard time picturing it in a way that is organic unless Batman suddenly embraces Jason whilst they are in the middle of arguing

A true adult knows when to break their own personal code for the sake of others. The no killing the bad guys is a really good code to have as a hero as the goons are sometimes just another dude that's just trying to survive and isnt blessed with good luck. But dude like Joker that kills people for fun.... who has been in and out of Arkham without any sort of change to his morale. Bro just kill him already. At this point, Batman just proved Joker's point where they both rely on each others existance to feel a sense a purpose.
