Being proper Quest 3 exclusive along with being made by a Meta owned & funded 1st party studio allowed them to make a game with proper modern AAA graphics (basically base PS4 level) and game scope on a wireless standalone device. Tethered-only VR ala PCVR and PSVR2 is officially dead. 🤷

@@izgin Lol, no. PCVR (and tethered-only VR in general) has been slowly dying off for YEEEEEARS now. This game didn't do anything but put another nail in the coffin (proving that standalone VR can now FINALLY run modern AAA games with modern graphics). Practically all PCVR gets nowadays is higher resolution Quest ports (when you're lucky to even get a port AT ALL!!!). Trust me, I've been in this scene since the original 2012 Oculus Rift DK1 Kickstarter (still have it to boot). And PSVR2 is even more dead. It was a miscarriage from basically Day 1 and Sony knew it. They completely gave up on the device within literally MONTHS of launch. 🤷

@@izgin And again, I say this as someone with a capable rig (R7 5800X3D + RTX 3080) and with hundreds if not thousands of hours of PCVR under my belt. I'm just being a realist here. That platform (and ALL tethered-only VR platforms ala PSVR1/2, etc...) were fundamentally 100% doomed right from day 1. 🤷 Standalone was ALWAYS the end goal. John Carmack literally knew this right from the beginning over a decade ago! The only reason he joined Oculus in 2013 was SPECIFICALLY to lead the development of GearVR/mobile VR (still the base of Quest/now Horizon OS) because he saw that as the inevitable future for the industry, not expensive, inaccessible tethered PCVR headset setups.

I've got a laugh right now. Around the end of last year my fiance was really wanting to get into VR gaming and we were looking at several different headsets for her. She wanted the meta quest 3 but decided on settling for the meta quest 2. I told her I could get that for her birthday back in February. I decided screw it and got her a meta quest 3 instead. I have informed her that I will be borrowing the headset in October to play this.

There's plenty of good shit when you get finished too. 🤷 Asgard's Wrath II is absolutely INCREDIBLE and has been fully updated & upgraded for Quest 3, and Assassin's Creed: Nexus is great even if it never got a proper Quest 3 patch. (That said, it still looks RIDICULOUSLY GOOD for a Quest 2 game!!!)

Y'all overstate the Joker's involvement in these games tho. We've gotten other villains get big shines such as Ras al Ghul whow ad the mastermind behind protocol ten, Hugo Strange, Bane, and Scarecrow playing big parts. On top of the fact that yes the series does revolve around the dynamic between Batman and Joker, deal with it lol.

They'd basically be making a whole new game at that point. Despite how it may appear, VR games aren't simply normal games with some Wiimote waggle thrown on top that can be easily converted to non-VR. There's a very good reason why it took nearly 4 years for the Half-Life: Alyx non-VR mod to be finished, it's not a simple process. There's two major hurdles that would need to be cleared in order to release a non-VR version of this game: Create thousands of custom animations. VR games have very few traditional animations, as the player is doing them with their body. There's no "punch" animations like in a normal game. Every single action that the player does would need a custom animation to be made. This would also limit the scope of the game too, since they probably won't think it's worthwhile to make an animation for Batman shooting the grappling gun while holding it in front of his crotch, despite that players of the original can can do this. Any mechanics that rely on movement in 3D space would need to be completely re-designed to work on a flat screen with a gamepad, assuming you don't want it to control like Surgeon Simulator.

Let's be real, for a VR game this does look pretty fantastic. I think combat was probably the hardest thing to nail here, but it looks great. Puzzle solving detective stuff was always secured because we have great games already on VR that focuses on puzzles like the last clockwinder. Pretty excited to see this unfold

I can’t wait for this game, and I know some people might ask, 'Why is this Quest 3 exclusive?' But the whole point of exclusive titles... Is to sell hardware. VR hasn’t reached mass adoption like Xbox or PlayStation, so exclusives are crucial for moving VR forward. The more Quest 3 headsets out there, the more developers can justify the high development costs, knowing they have a better chance of making a profit. It’s a bit of a catch-22 and might seem unfair to flat-screen players, but it’s what’s needed to help VR reach the potential everyone knows it has.
