I really like this version of Penguin because they also flipped her personality. The traditional Penguin has a lot of resentment about how his family is looked down upon by other rich families and really wants to be a legitimate member of high society but he's really awkward around them. This Penguin is very comfortable in high society and mingles well with them, but she still keeps those illicit dealings like the traditional Penguin.

So I’ve watched the whole series, and so far it’s one of the better adult series that I’ve watched. People curse, people die but it isn’t to the exaggerated extreme that we normally get in adult cartoons where people are swearing every 5 words and the gore is off the charts.

I'm almost certain it was! Before she got into acting, Minnie Driver was a singer -- there's three full albums of her work out there, and I don't think that's counting the shows and films she's sung in!

I've never been a massive Batman fan (although I do like his character) but this show is really good. As an ADHDer, for me it's a often a mark of a good project if can stay engaged with it without fighting to keep focused. The pacing is often what makes or breaks my ability to consistently pay attention, and this show so far (I'm on ep 4) is really well-paced. I've started noticing more and more that a lot of shows now don't know how to nail proper pacing anymore, but this one does it fantastically. Also the storytelling in general is great. Overall animation is just killing it right now

@@nugget3687all villains in this show has parallels to Batman. They all actually exaggerations of his flaws in this show I think. Penguin is hiding in plain sight and twisted family dynamic (she kills her son while he lost his parents), Clayface is about masks and theatrics but also about revenge (he’s a man with narcissistic grudges while Batman fights crime) etc.

If you rewatch, you see that Penguin has portraits of her sons in her dressing room. The lotion she throws splatters on the portrait of Aaron, her “favorite” son. It really goes to show how cold she is.

Art style is great. The voice of Batman isn't no Kevin Conroy but still the stoic. Oswalda is alright, gives me vibes of Ma Parker from the 60s show. But I really do dig Alfred's chubbier look and called "Pennyworth" as if he's not quite family, which how the character started in the golden age

Between my general antipathy for Batman as a character these days (because he could do a lot more to solve Gotham’s problems if he solved it at the economic root) and the fact that I haaaaate the super long ears and the involvement of JJ Abrams, this show has a lot to overcome for me. But it really, really does, so far. It’s really good. The writing is good, and the characterizations are razors. It has the finesse and maturity to show, not tell.

actually that's something that is not explored in the tv shows but in the comics bruce wayne do a shit load for gotham with his fortune, he build infrastructure, finance hospital and education and even have rehabilitation program where Wayne's enterprise hire ex-con.

A billionaire dressing up in a costume and beating up the poor, many of whom are mentally unwell and in need of treatment, just isn’t an aspect of the character that grown up me enjoys very much. The solution to crime and corruption is rooted in economic social actions, not violence. It is good that the comic writers have heard this complaint and done more and more in recent decades to address this issue, but I don’t think there’s a good version of this character, not really. Just some versions that are better than others.

All that said, once you set aside those concerns about the character (which I know not everyone shares, anyway) this show is absolutely bodying it. Really, really good, which was the main point of my comment.

I gotta admit, a gender bent Penguin wasn't a bad choice in terms of creative decisions. But at least they could of made her shorter. As Peguins are known for being small flightless birds. I mean, look at the original male version of Penguin from the original Animated series. His statue suited the animal theme of his design.

well actually no since they written her as a different character, if it was just pandering she'll be exactly the same as the old penguin but even tho they share the essence, the base of the character they also have a lot of distinct difference. Comics always do that kind of stuff and completly revamp their character again and again, sometimes a vilain become a hero with a differnet story, sometimes a heros who's really virtuous become a grim anti hero in another version, sometimes the protagonist finally has enough and kill his arch nemesis releaasing a trap transforming him to something knew akin to said arch nemesis and he proceed to take over differents dimension one by one killing and torturing everything on his path. So even tho comics fan are okay with all that, just because a character has something different between their legs it make them go bonkers ? that's sounds pretty weird to me ?
