I enjoyed the show. But I don't disagree with any of your points. Especially the ghost episode felt wildly out of place. Especially for this take on batman, as everything up to that point seemed more grounded and street level. The Firebug episode with hunt for Batman was probably my favourite.

I feel like it's only called Batman: Caped Crusader because "The Barbara Gordon and Renee Montoya show" doesn't really roll off the tongue. It would have been nice to see more Batman in the Batman cartoon.

I don't mind Batman being sidelined for an episode or two as long as the episode we get is entertaining. But yeah, it did feel like he was mostly absent for the mid section of the season :(

I feel like this was a warm up season. Like, a set up season for future seasons. Not sure if that even makes sense but yeah. Batman had an arc though at least. He started off being kind of an asshole to Alfred in the yhe beginning but by the end of the season he softened on him a little. Feels like THIS Alfred was bullied into helping Bruce be batman though 🤣

You're probably right! Even though I wasn't over the moon over this, I'm still looking forward to whatever they come up with next. At the end of the day, it'll just be more Batman, and you can never have too much Batman lol

Batman honestly feels like a secondary character in his own show. It takes until episode 6 for him to actually feel like the main character, and after that it goes right back to focusing on Gordon and Montoya

When I first saw the trailer, I was like: "Yay, ugly ass colours, poorly-used digital effects, bland art direction, stiff and lifeless animation, it's gonna be greeeeaaaaaat". Hell, why are they so allergic to lighting? It's not because everything is smeared in gray that it conveys darkness effectively, it just looks hideous and unimaginative.

I found the art direction very weak. For all the talk about playing up the noir elements, aside from the B&W opening credits, there's virtually no use of heavily contrasting light/shadow in the visuals at all. Look at the original intro to BTAS: THAT is what _Caped Crusader_ should've looked like, instead of this evenly-lit, flat aesthetic they went with. I also felt the runtime was too short and/or there weren't enough episodes to probably explore any of the characters; you got Batman as this brutal, aloof vigilante gradually rediscovering his humanity, Harleen's budding romance with Montoya, Dent as a corrupt, internally conflicted DA running for mayor, etc., and there isn't enough room provided to properly develop any of these arcs. I can't give this first season anything higher than 6/10.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but not liking this series because it has origin stories to familiar characters is nonsensical to me given the fact that this is a REBOOT. I'm not sure what this person expected, for their to be new version of these character but not have a different backstory?

To be fair, I'm not saying the show is bad just because there's a Two Face origin story. I'm just saying that ending the season with yet ANOTHER Two Face origin, an origin we've seen so many times at this point, was just really uninteresting. What's so cool about Batman is that he has so many good villains. Give us a different origin story, maybe one we don't see as often. Give me Poison Ivy, Mr Freeze, or even the example I gave in my video, The Penguin. Any of those would've been more interesting to me than just another Two Face origin. But hey, it sounds like you enjoyed it, and at the end of the day, that's what matters. This is just my opinion :)

I think the nostalgia is clouding your lens of the original btas just a bit because this is very much the same, honestly i think its biggest issue is its runtime and episode count not letting them flesh out the show because it 100% tries to and it has the potential to be as good as btas. Honestly i like the changes to penguin it gave much needed flair to a pretty boring villian. And there is alot to play around with, i mean a motherly cabaret singer mob boss? Sign me up, this and the psychotic harley were my favorite parts of the show I do find it funny that you wanted an origin for the penguin because she is a women now but dont want "another origin story" for harvey lol. But again i think this has to do more with them only getting 10, 20 min eps so they cant flesh out everything in a way they want too. But i totally agree the show is just.... eh its fine but it could have been much better
@reelwatkins3 ай бұрын
I totally agree with the Penguin. She was awesome! I just wished there was more of her. Maybe it could've been better if they did a running overarching plot. I'm also watching My Adventures with Superman (which is awesome btw) and that's what they do and it totally works. I also dug Harley as well. I did actually talk about her in my review, but I ended up editing it out because of length, but I did like her quite a bit and hope to see more of her. Hopefully S2 will be better, but as a whole, I agree with you. It's pretty meh.

No, absolutely not. It's not "nostalgia." Just compare the first 10 episodes of TAS to the first 10 episodes of this mess. Just compare "Feat of Clay" with "And Be a Villain." Just compare how the original "Two-Face" to the weak season finale of "Caped Crusader". Just compare "P.O.V." to ANYTHING in this season. There's a severe lack of imagination on display. Some of the supposedly "new ideas" are either empty subversions or things taken from elseworlds. The new show had no flashy visuals or memorable moments. They don't even play with the shadows! The shots are extremely FLAT and BORING. At times it looks like a 1990s sitcom. The scripts themselves are serviceable at best. The characters lack psychological depth and, more often than not, are simply "good" or "bad." The sense of tragedy, the "noir" sensibilities or the nuances in Batman's characterization are lost. The dialogue is extremely weak, lacking fun or wit, and feels like a "placeholder" half the time. They don't use the 1940s setting in an interesting way (no references to the war? to the Great Depression? No jazz music?). With the exception of Batman's costume, this isn't really an homage to the "Golden Age" either. And the worst crime of all: the characters are hardly expressive! The voice acting is OK but the ACTUAL faces are horribly stiff!! They do not transmit pain or rage or love. They all look, most of the time, like cardboard cutouts. Sorry, but no, it's not nostalgia. Unlike Batman TAS, "Caped Crusader" is just bad. I wanted to love it but I can't even like it.
