Poor KGBeast. He wanted to kill Robin and thought wearing short shorts would make Robin vulnerable. Little did he know he should have set up a phone line to put Robin's life to a vote.

I'm about 10 minutes and I'm really enjoying how back issues is sort of evolving with how Sal chooses to approach the story and the story of the development. The development of these books is sometimes more interesting than the actual story. It's always been a thing you guys have done (I mean look at the Venom Returns episode) but the depth you use going into these gritty details these past few months is really well researched and interesting to listen to as it puts my mindset back in whatever era and state of consciousness the writers, editors, and cultural-zeitgeist was at the time. Also, really close to 100K!

The story behind the story is honestly one of the best parts of back issues, and unique to this show as opposed to other comic book summarizations. That and Sal’s quip about being a car 🤣 ♿️.

God, I have a soft spot for KGBeast. Back in 2013, when almost nobody knew of him, I wrote a biography of his for a russian comicbook webpage. Later, I had an account named after Anatoli Knyazev, a matching profile pic, and a fan group dedicated strictly to his character. Suddenly, he started popping up everywhere - Arrow, BvS, Assault on Arkham, All Star Batman, Harley Quinn Show. Now he even got to ComicPop. I'm proud of Tolya ))) Ma boy

My favorite Batmobile is the Morrison/Quitely Batman and Robin one. Its a car yes. But it also transforms into a plane like the Delorean in Back to the Future. A bit silly? Sure. But its way more practical than having to navigate Gotham Traffic or taking out the full Batplane every single time you need it. Plus its just the RIGHT amount of silly. Its a comic book.

The beheading thing is real. A relative of some friends was almost decapitated on his bike by a kite wire. Here in Brazil, the kids have a custom of putting glass wax on the wire, so they can cut other kid's kites and take them. And sometimes, these kites go on roads and bikers end up on a hospital bed or on the morgue.

There's a podcast I listen to called Blank Check which covers film directors and goes through each person's filmography. The format of the podcast is only tangentially about the plot of each movie, but instead gives a lot of history and context to the creation and reception of each film. Back Issues episodes like this remind me of that format, and I always appreciate the opportunity to learn a little more about the comics industry and the (often) absurd decisions made by creators, publishers, and readers alike. This episode, Onslaught, Death of Superman... all great insights.

Man, this was surprisingly really good! i thought it'd be goofy 80's cheese, but while there is some silly stuff, it's actually a really solid face-off. Felt like I haven't seen Batman genuinely tested like this in a while-it's usually just the Joker or whoever suddenly becoming unstoppable while Bruce fails to do anything meaningful. This felt like a real, thoughtful challenge of all Batman's skills, which is fun.

I believe Jim starlin didn’t care about Batman’s no kill rule. Look at most of his stories. Batman: The Cult - Batman kills people while drugged. Batman: Ten Nights of the Beast - locks KGBeast in a room with no means of survival. A Death in the Family - Batman tries to kill joker in the helicopter. Heck, Robin kills a diplomats son!!!
@NoBody-lj5xh

With the batmobile, I think there are a few things that makes it a regular part of Bruce's stuff. 1. Bruce is peak human, but he isn't superhuman. Spiderman has the benefit of super strength, super speed and super reflexes to make webslinging work. Bruce's gadgets and body would get a lot of wear and tear if he was grappling everywhere. 2. The depressed city motifs. That the streets of Gotham aren't crowded like regular streets because everyone hides at night from the crime all around. Travel by fast car isn't as implausible. 3. Maneuverable and practicality. The bat plane is super obvious hovering around and might make stealth a bit tricky. Grappling is just a bit slow. The car is a compromise to work between the two for getting somewhere fast but not in a way to be TOO obvious or clunky for maintenance.

Reagan going to Gotham even though like 100+ important people were murdered makes a lot of sense. You want to keep the KGBeast where you know where he is, so you set up a decoy.
