4:31 I love how the Joker has to think real quick, reversing the street addresses in his head, knowing that batman won't have the time to think about it, and also knowing that he will go for Rachel instead of Harvey. Such brilliant and believable acting.
@CynicalRam3 жыл бұрын
The whole entire point of this joker is that’s he’s a liar. He parades as someone without a plan but he constantly always was planning ahead. He knew bat would go to china so he tried to plan ahead. He knew Rachel was going to die that plan was solely to emotionally damage Dent I don’t think he accounted for the accident but he benefited from it regardless. His plan to blow the boats up. He planned ahead if the people didn’t blow each other up. And the hospital bombing he went there to fire dent up and turned him into a murder machine. He was literally a man with a plan at all times. Including this one. Another lie I forgot to mention. He lies about the story of how he got his scars He tells the mob boss 1 story and Rachel another, and I assume with his track record of being a habitual liar, neither story were true

Yeah and when the Joker said that he's 'going to break his one rule' he didn't mean killing the joker to get information. I think he meant that in his attempt to save one of them, he will be making the choice to kill the other (even if he thinks that the police will get in time to the other one)
@RedRaider143 жыл бұрын
@@empyreanpromethean4831 It's because he KNEW Batman would succeed in rescuing whoever he chose, and he KNEW he'd go for Rachel. So he switched the addresses because he needed Harvey alive to continue his plan, and he knew Batman would get to him in time. He also knew that Rachel dying would destroy Harvey enough to flip him.

Well he doesn’t but it can seem compelling. The one line of dialogue I find disjointed is “they’re only as good as the world allows them to be”. From my understanding that implies the police and law enforcement have a pure and righteous ideology on an individual level that can’t be realized because of the society they exist in. Perhaps that’s true in Gotham but certainly not in this world. Insofar as he is referring to the film’s reality, part of the corruption that led Gotham to become a haven of crime was corruption that had to exist in every level of law enforcement including the people he suggests “are only as good as the world *allows* them to be.

Batman’s philosophy: Humans are naturally good. Their environment makes them act badly. The Joker’s philosophy: Humans are naturally bad. Their environment makes them act good. That’s an extreme oversimplification, but their ideological conflict is based on human nature. This is why the Joker is fine with Batman killing him. It’s proves his point. It shows that everyone, even the most incorruptible person, can be corrupted. That our nature, when “all the chips are down” devolves into chaos, not of order. Getting Harvey Dent to turn was the Jokers masterpiece. So much so that Batman and the Gordon choose to lie because they knew how devastating it would be if Gotham found out. They respect each other, because they both have good points. This is truly a beautifully written movie and it’s no wonder that it set a new standard for what a superhero movie should be.

I love that scene because Joker actually teaches Batman a lesson. When the Joker tells him the address of where they are Batman prefers to save Rachel over Harvey and it contradicts what Batman stands for. Hero’s make sacrifices for the greater good and instead of saving Harvey for the greater of Gotham he tries to save Rachel.

I never gave it any thought that The Joker was looking at Gordon’s watch to see how long he had to stall time for. I always figured he was just looking at him taking off the handcuffs. Amazing attention to detail! Edit: 1:05 is when he looks at his watch Plus, a few moments before he looked at his watch, he asked what the time was and Gordon never told him. Then, later when Batman has him agains the wall, the Joker said “There’s only minutes left”, which confirms that he did look at Gordon’s watch.
