Yep precisely, Rachel would rather be the sacrifical lamb than have Harvey be blown to kingdom come. Not just happiness but also relief, knowing that it was Bruce/Batman who came to save him. Harvey mattered more to the people than her, due to his high campaigning to wipe the cities clean of criminal activities. But what's more depressing was that before her death, Rachel never realized that Harvey would take the loss very badly and become a psychotic vigilante, to take it out on those he felt were responsible for her death. I'm sure that Rachel would never want to see that happen at all. But as the Joker said during his conversation with Harvey in the hospital, it was all "part of the plan". Things only got worse as the story progressed... ending with the demise of Harvey "Two-Face" and Batman voluntarily covering up for his crimes, to keep Harvey's "white knight reputation" intact for the next 8 years.

Yeah, that was a nice little nuance they put in. A similar concept is in the movie 'the American's with George Clooney. He plays a sort of skilled but washed out and downward spiralling assassin and gunsmith. At the beginning of the movie he is attacked by assassins and kills them but in the process he fears that his secret life is exposed to his girlfriend whom he then kills and flees. He goes to Italy and gets another assignment from his handler. It's simply to build a gun for another assassin. He starts making connections with people and falls in love with a hooker who returns his feelings. He completes the gun and delivers it and plans on retiring and leaving the assassin life with the new woman. But he then fears that the gun he was building was 'for him'. And it was. But he had sabotaged it and it injures the assassin hired to retire him. But his handler shows up to finish the job. He's able to kill his handler and flee to go meet with the woman. On his way there, there's a moment when he realizes that he was actually shot in the fight with his old boss and is going to die. There's such a moment of disappointment, not that he's going to die. He knew that he would likely die in this trade, but that he came so close to winning only to still die in the end. It's a really well done scene. I got to say that while I'm not really a huge Clooney fan, he's been in some really good movies. This one and Michael clayton are both really good. I think mostly because he plays very quiet charachters in both movies and the story depends more on plot and non verbal acting from him.

It's a brilliant scene, but the Joker wins a little too much. He makes Batman and everyone else look dumb and weak throughout the whole movie. Which is great for the actor and makes people think even more of him, but is actually bad for the audience and the filmmakers, because Batman is supposed to be the hero, and Batman is the one whose name is on this movie and the next ones, and the toys and games etc, so the whole machine is designed for Batman to be the one who is dominant and most liked. They did end up making a Joker movie though, but when the character is villainous, it's hard to make things work.

I love that Rachel was written as a proper character, even though they knew she'd be killed off in the film. So many films or TV shows would have given her a backseat, made her one dimensional or simply not be brave enough to kill off such an important character (within the trilogy, I know she's not from the comics)

I always loved that the guard was smart enough to know The Joker was manipulating him but was just too angry to care. It makes him more sympathetic and makes Jokers escape feel more real and possible rather than if he was just some dumb cop who fell for Jokers ruse. He knew what was happening but was too angry not to take the chance for revenge. Much more human/relatable.

Even if they left him alone. Some point they would have to go in there to restrain him. Joker is physically not that intimidating and he could have easily faked like something was going wrong all to prompt a response for them to come in and check on him. Don’t forget he’s a genius criminal mastermind. YOU NEVER KNOW HIS NEXT MOVE.

or how convenient the plot works out for him. Realistically why would they put a guard in the room with him when they can already see him through the two way mirror? As a matter of fact why would they even leave him in the interrogation room? They should have taken him back to a holding cell, that’s like standard procedure.

Uh, no. This movie is ridiculous in how everything works out just “exactly” as planned. In real life, the Joker wouldn’t be in a cell like this, he’d be in Federal prison in a holding cell after murdering so many people. And he wouldn’t get a “phone call”, or basically anything. And there’s no way he could’ve had some rando arrested, with a BOMB in his stomach, and make sure he winds up in some communal prison cell, that can then explode and kill MORE cops, but somehow The Joker doesn’t get injured at all….
@williamthomas52154 жыл бұрын
My favorite small piece of acting in this whole movie is when Heath Ledger asks how many of the guard’s friends has he killed and the guard starts talking. Heath proceeds to show very understanding faces in an almost mocking manner. Following the guard giving the number, 6, Ledger mouths the number back to the guard. This is the ultimate sign of pure evil in my opinion. He hadn’t even counted, he had no idea. Or maybe even worse, he did and knew exactly what he was doing to the guard. Either way, it’s brilliant and truly one of the most iconic scenes in movie history.

I found Harvey Dent getting his face caught on fire after Batman pulls him out of an exploding building to be a lot more brutal in the Dark Knight than the classic getting acid thrown in the court room moment from the comics, this was very powerful and sad at the same time, it did an excellent job in setting him up to become Two-Face. I would put Aaron Eckhardt's performance up there with Christian Bale, Gary Oldman and Heath Ledger, he absolutely delivered big time.
@KoOkiEzRoCkz Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I’d even argue the original Two-Face origin should be this one.
