Each mob boss had a different approach to the Joker. Gambol absolutely despised him and didn't trust him, the Chechen kinda liked him and was all ears about what he had to say, and Sal Maroni was cautiously neutral about him. In the end, Maroni was the only one smart enough not to get involved with him and even ratted him out, but he still got killed indirectly by the Joker through Harvey Dent(Joker's ace in the hole).

To earn through strife and work is an honest living. To GIVE your honest work is a privilege. How many has a special skill they've developed for years others want and most admire, and they can honestly give it away. Not to be kind, not to be a nice person to ones friend but straight out give it away out of good heart that you are. A nice guy is asked for change and offer some, a good person gives without needing a question cause he already knows the answer, and he's the only one who needs to know. But if he gives it away, it only makes it better.

@Elemento04203 жыл бұрын
Joker believes that morals and rules are mere excuses for people's hypocrisy when they eventually go against it for any reason. That ultimately it is a dog eat dog world. He goes to prove it when he threatens to blow up a hospital if the guy threatening to expose Batman's identity isn't killed, and when he offers one of the 2 boats to be spared if one blows up the others. Batman saw that Joker wants to prove that deep down everyone is a 'freak' and a monster like him.

The way he locks onto Gambols eyes and the way he repeats it was always my favourite part of the whole movie. It's subtle, but I know that exact look - when he says "im not" he intends for it to be taken with more weight, so when they all continue to laugh it become personal for him. The glare demands Gambol lock eyes with him for him to repeat the statement again, clear as day, no bullshit or confusion. The way he delivers those lines makes me think that - to heath's joker - the assertion that he's crazy is something from his past that contributed to him being who he is now. It obviously means a lot to the character, not only that he is not called crazy, but that no one walks away with any sort of misconception that he is. Its more important to him than money, catching batman, the guy he just killed... id go as far as to say that being acknowledged as "not crazy" is more important to Joker than anything else in that room at the moment - one has to wonder what would have happened if Gambol had not done Joker the respect of meeting his gaze as he repeated himself. 🤔

It ties in beautifully to his entire point in the movie, that anyone can be turned, can be deemed “crazy” - they just need a little push. And I haven’t seen this ever being mentioned, but I think the Joker doesn’t want to be alone(Batman even tells him he is at the end). He doesn’t like the idea of people potentially being more like Batman than people being more like him, so he goes to great lengths to prove that they are more like him, and when he’s proven to be wrong at the end just look at the sadness and disappointment in his face

@Edwin The joker demands half of their money to ''kill the batman'' not because he wants money, but because by taking their money and destroying it, he weakens them, making it easier to take over. Joker used it as a means to an end, because his ultimate goal (he tells this to batman) is to literally play this ''game'' with batman for forever, or until Batman finally breaks his only rule. His sole purpose is to push Batman right up to the edge, and test him at every turn. He gets the mob on his side by saying he will kill Batman, but never has the intention to.

This is why Heaths Joker will always be superior to any other depictions of the Joker including Joaquin Phoenix‘s. Phoenix’s depiction of the Joker was demented and frightening but he didn’t seem smart enough to achieve complex plans that would outwit Batman and the police. He was was a victim of mental illness and an uncaring society with inadequate health care, which made him a sociopath and that didn’t mesh with the idea that the Joker should be an insane unstoppable force of chaos… I loved how articulate Heath’s Joker was “I’m not a monster, I’m just ahead of the curve” frightening.

Which is why he is Batman archenemy. There is nothing joker won't do and his psychotic unpredictability is what makes it so hard for batman to stop him. That line was Improvised. Heath was supposed to say "I'll steal more", but Heath didn't like it and changed it to...."Yeah". During Filming, they didn't realize he had changed it until the entire scene was shot. When Nolan Watched it Back, he Loved it, and Kept it.

Notice how the Joker suddenly gets serious when he's called 'a freak' or 'crazy'. He doesn't reply with a witty one liner or a chilling sentence, instead he seems... insecure. That is an amazing detail added by Nolan to the character: he doesn't like being called those things because that is all he was called throughout his life, and he's spent his whole life trying to prove them wrong.
@swagswagger96443 жыл бұрын
cause he’s insecure in his misanthropy, he wants people to take it seriously and he wants to convince himself and others that there’s no hope anymore. All that gets thrown out the window if he’s just some loon, which he kind of is.
@ZeroneAngel3 жыл бұрын
That's not on Nolan. That is all Ledger. If you take the time to read the screenplay for the movie, it never states that Ledger should respond differently to that type of comment. It only states that he says "No...I'm not. I'm not..." That is acting, and that acting is the reason Ledger was awarded an Oscar for his performance. The second ever given to an actor.

Agreed. Both are fantastic in their own ways. Joaquin is the Joker before and when he became the Joker, whereas Ledger is the Joker at his peak, the one we’re all familiar with.
@koko408004 жыл бұрын
Two great actors with different interpretations, imo none is really 'better'. Ledger's Joker was the cold blooded bad a^s sociopathic Joker. Phoenix's was the more human, relatable Joker. Arthur Fleck was not necessarily born a sociopath, he's more of a feeling person who was an outcast from society. Ledger's Joker rejects society and their norms in a more militaristic fashion, with a purpose. Phoenix's Joker is just lashing out at those who hurt him
