This may be one of the few times killing the Joker doesn’t end in him “winning”. Sure, Joker’s always wanted to get Batman to kill, but the point of getting him to kill was to corrupt Batman. To make Batman indirectly admit his moral code was wrong. Batman goes on to turn himself in and refuses to leave prison early. He truly accepts the consequences of his actions, which is Batman’s way of saying “what I did was wrong”. His moral code remains intact despite his earlier breach of it by treating what he did as a serious breach. This is the timeline where Batman truly defeats the Joker. He saves both his and Superman’s moral codes and the point Joker was trying to make by getting Batman to kill never got made.
@ethanhayes7205
@ethanhayes7205 3 жыл бұрын
Also, lets be honest, Joker wanted his death to be long and drawn out, looking Bats in the eyes the whole time so he could savor every last moment of "victory." Sudden neck snap when he's not expecting it, especially after the day was saved, is... NOT how he would have envisioned it.
@RexMK-
@RexMK- 3 жыл бұрын
@@ethanhayes7205 Basically in this timeline he died for nothing. And the worst part of all is that in the end Joker will go down history as another maniac whose only goal was just to he an A-Hole. I know joker doesn't care that much for fame unless he wants a lot of people wacth his attrocities, but the main point is, Joker din't even get the satisfaction of going down in blaze of painfull and slow "glory". I mean, what is the worst way a villian can loose? By not only failing but also being forgoten in the end.

Agreed. It even conquers one of Batman's worst fears - that the moment he starts killing, he won't stop. He did, and in fact accepted the consequences of his crime. In all honesty the Gotham PD would likely give him a light sentence, if any, considering he ended the long killing spree of their worst mass murderer. And if they didn't, the people of Gotham would absolutely pressure them to, because Batman is truly their hero now.

There's something absolutely poetic about _how_ it happened too. Joker wanted a long, drawn out, final showdown, to try and break the Bat, and force him to admit he was wrong. Joker deserved a long, painful, drawn out death, _and getting it would have mean he'd won._ If Batman had driven him behind a shed somewhere and tortured him to death, it would have meant that Joker was right: That no one is unbreakable, that the world is dark and painful, and even the most upright, most adamant, are just that one day away from turning into savage animals. If Batman had given in and done everything he'd dreamt about doing to Joker, then The Bat would have been irrevocably stained. He didn't turn Joker in to Arkham all those times because it was "The Law", or to give Joker another chance, he did it because every time he _refused_ to give in to that, he kept his head above water, and beat Joker back a little bit. You can argue whether or not this murder was justified all day long, but the best part about it is that he did it quick, clean, merciful. Joker doesn't get his drawn out fight in the rain, he doesn't get to see Batman scream and strangle him. He barely gets to see anything: Bruce just does his best to come at it from a pure, pragmatic point of view. No pain, just quick, and it's done, and Bruce moves on to accepting the consequences of his actions. In a way, Bruce probably didn't even think of it as killing Joker in order to save Superman. He probably thought more along the lines of "I'm going to sacrifice my ideals and accept jail-time, for superman." Still, bet Dick and Barb are pissed.

makes sense. Batman is supposed to be the "bad guy" of the justice league. the scary one that will cross boundaries the others won't. there was only one boundary he would NEVER cross . . . and his friends would pay the price for that hesitance. Batman was sacrificed so that Superman may be maintained, and that's fine. Batman was a symptom of a crueler world whereas Superman always represented hope for a better one. Batman going against his own code, giving up his secret identity, turning himself in . . . . taking the fall so that Superman wouldn't. it feels right.

A man that walks the path between justice and vengeance know both very well. But a Boy Scout that has never understood the darkness may slip in it. Batman is a force of nature contained only by the rails of Justice and Vengeance. And yet he can come off as surprisingly cold as you noted.

"Batman can block his emotions and bounce back from a killing without going down a dark path" - ohhhhh man is that totally wrong. The thing about Batman is that he already IS on a dark path, and if he were to allow himself to give in, he would fall right into the void and never come back, turning into a cold-blooded killer, willing to murder anyone who opposes him in any way, and completely losing touch with his humanity. This is basically what happened in an alternate reality, and that is how we got Owlman; part of the Crime Syndicate of America. In Batman's own words about killing the Joker: "A day doesn't go by that I don't think about subjecting him to every horrendous torture he's dealt out to others, and then... end him. But if I do that, if I allow myself to go down into that place... I'll never come back."

This is my favourite part of injustice, I'm not a massive fan of the concept myself but this dream proves and disproves so many things about the characters. It shows that joker was wrong about batman , and to an extent barman was wrong about himself. If he snaps and goes too far he won't become worse than the joker. He will still do the right thing. And honestly this situation is for the best because Bruce can handle the aftermath of the act as it allowed superman to remain an icon to the world and keep his morals intact.

I’m not familiar with the storyline but apparently Batman literally refused to not have a sentence 🤣 so they gave him like 2 years 6 months which was probably the minimum sentence. A lot of people in these chats think this was just about protecting Clark from the Joker's future plots or preventing him from becoming a monster. It's more than that. Batman could have killed him at any time in the ride. It wasn't until the Joker threatened to go after Clark's child that he acted. People often forget one of Batman's original motivations (now often overlooked since Frank Miller started the ball rolling on writing Batman as a vengeance obsessed psycho) which was that he wanted to save Gotham so that NO OTHER CHILD would be the KID IN THE ALLEY the way Batman had been. And then the Joker threatened to do just that to the child of his best friend.

If Batman had taken this path then the entire Injustice storyline would never have happened and many deaths could have been prevented. However, as we see in Injustice none of that matters to Batman. He doesn't really care about innocent people. He cares more about the well being of super criminals. Batman hates Superman for killing his beloved Joker and thus goes to war against him. He puts innocent lives at risk multiple times just so that he can get an opportunity to take down Superman. Batman is the true villain of Injustice.

There's a lot of people who dislike the aftermath of this comic, where Bruce is in prison for killing the Joker. Here's the thing, I don't believe for a moment that multiple people, from Gordan to the DA to Superman himself didn't try to get Bruce a deal, but here's the thing, Bruce would never accept a deal. He would plead guilty and ask the court for a fair sentence. He likely got minimum time, which was the best the courts could do. That was his ultimate win against the Joker, he killed him and then accepted punishment for doing so, he didn't justify it, he didn't let the system be corrupt in his favor (even if it was deserved), he proved the system worked. You can't take a like without consequences. Bruce walked away from this uncorrupted, which is a much better middle finger to the Joker than any resolution where Batman walked away scotfree.

Clark and Bruce are brothers. You take one out or even try to for that matter and you've got the absolute full might of the other coming after you. Basically at the end of the day, the Joker decided to mess with Bruce's family (Clark, Lois and their child) and that drew the line. Bruce doesn't want to lose any more family. Never again. This wasn't about vengeance or Bruce losing to the Joker, it was about Bruce finally ending the trauma had plagued him for years. Letting the killer go repeatedly while innocent people die time and time again when Bruce knew full well how to end that altercation. The Joker can't be rehabilitated, he can only be put down.

I like to think that Batman was so silent not because he knew what was going to happen, but because he wanted to give Joker, one more time, the benefit of the doubt. Was this a one time thing? Or will other people Bruce cares about have to get hurt, get killed? The moment the Joker began talking about “playing” with Superman, his dice were cast. It just took a few moments for Batman to read the faces. Snake eyes.
