I had the honour of meeting Kevin Conroy at LA Comic Con in 2021 - He signed my copy of Mask of the Phantasm DVD and we chatted about our favourite moments from the show and movie - the one thing I will never forget, was him saying to "keep creating and continue to say something with your art" - as a filmmaker/director, that meant a lot coming from him. He will always be my Batman and THE definitive voice of Batman.

Kevin also paid tribute to Adam West (The Grey Ghost and 60s Batman) after he passed away. It was a shame that Kevin would pass away just over five years later. R.I.P. Kevin Conroy. You and Adam West made Batman iconic for generations of fans and got them into the comics. I also agree with Bruce Timm, in that I hear Kevin's voice whenever I read a Batman comic or another superhero comic that has Batman in it.

Just when you think 9 months passed and you're slowly accepting the fact that Kevin Conroy passed away you watch this wonderful five minute piece about his legacy as arguably the greatest Batman of all time and it just comes flooding back to you and it still hurts but it's also a celebration of arguably one of the greatest artists of our time to play one of the greatest heroes of fiction of all of our time. Kevin's voice was one of the first voices I remember hearing as a child growing up and his passing was like losing a family member but what a great legacy that he left with all these amazing actors, screen writers, and artists of Warner Brothers and DC animation to carry on the legacy of who he was and what he meant to the fans worldwide forever. The Batman the animated series crew is one of the greatest established groups of artist collaborating ever and to continuously remember Kevin among others like efrim zimbalest, shirley walker, arleen sorkeen, michael ansara, and David Warner as some of the greatest of all-time really it's a testament to them in the work that they've all done together, much love to the EMMY WINNING cast and crew of BTAS. All I could think Batman mask of the Phantasm was Kevin Conroy's ultimate portrayal as Batman on the big screen and I understand why it's considered arguably the greatest Batman film of all time 🙏 🦇 👑. #RIP #LongLiveTheKnight #BTASForLife

Mask of the Phantasm to this day is still my favorite film, and I will still argue is the best Batman film. It says so much in its short runtime without feeling rushed. It tells a beautifully tragic story about Batman, which touches on his origin without retreading the same old story beats. Kevin gives an amazing performance where he shows strength, heroicness, sadness and vulnerability. Every Batman movie seems to want to include some kind of romance angle, but this was the only one where the romance was actually worth anything. And it has the Joker, letting him shine and have some great moments, without completely stealing the show like he does in every other movie he's in. But most importantly it still gets Batman's character better than any live action film. When I want to introduce someone to the character I always start by showing them Phantasm. It is the perfect encapsulation of the best of Batman's characterization.

I met Kevin at NYCC many years ago with my son who couldn't have been more than 5-6, maybe even younger. He signed our DVD set of the BTAS and was super gracious. He dropped into the Batman voice and I thought my kid was going to hit the roof (along with his dad). He's the voice that folks of a certain age will always attribute to the Dark Knight. He was vengeance. He was the night. He will ALWAYS be Batman.

Met him a few years ago at Fan Expo Canada, and it was truly an honour. I said the usual fan boy stuff as in how much of a thrill it was meeting him, which was true. He thanked me, and said they do those kinds of events to connect with the fans and see how much their characters mean to us. Also, it was cool hearing his real voice is his "Bruce Wayne voice". I dare say his sexuality he kept well hidden till his death may have partially amplified his performance. He was channeling this pain his own story (being denied work due to discrimination) and combining with batman's story in his voice. It makes sense why it was magnificently perfect.
