Opening of Batman Returns, with Penguin being thrown into the sewer as a child and traveling through it in a cradle gave me nightmares for years. I've seen the movie at a very young age tho. Will never forget it, and that ominous and creepy music following the said scene.

I LOVE this film. It made me fall in love with film and pursue a career in film - now I'm in LA and living the dream. I think this film still holds up too. It's so unique and stands on its own in the long list of Batman films.

I worked at MCD’s in ‘95 and the Batman forever promotion included a sandwich . I think it was the superhero and it was good, prob better than the movie.

Frankly, I think Burton was misguided - but not quite the way you might be thinking. In BATMAN RETURNS he created a fascinating world and story, but then populated the movie with characters who come off as pretty bland a quarter-century on. Hardly any less than the Schumacher films, BATMAN RETURNS is a prime example of style over substance. Looking "cool" and "different" won't count for much if you don't use all that novelty to make an original point. (Still have a major soft spot for this film, though.)

After Batman 1989, they IMMEDIATELY went in the wrong direction...they should've brought back Knox and Dent, and continued what was started. Returns was a weird, gross art movie. I wanted to like it but Batman couldn't really beat up penguin or cat woman....they were too pitiful. For those who like it...enjoy.

MusicStudent1 I totally agree. Although I don't hate "returns" by any means, I prefer the first one. The sequel definitely should've been a continuation, with Knox, Vicki vale, dent, etc. And it should've been in the same basic style as the first one. The first one was a masterpiece. The critics loved returns because it's so artistic and stylized, but it wasn't a batman movie. It was a Tim Burton movie that batman occasionally showed up in

Michael L, Batman has been reinterpreted over the decades, often in starkly different directions. The 1939 version has little to do with the 1955 version. The Adam West version had scarcely anything to do with the Dark Knight Rises. And the idea that Batman is any one, set thing, and there is a "right" version as oppose to a personally preferred interpretation, is ahistorical, borderline hysterical (fanboys, like Bible thumpers: they have little actual knowelde of the worshiped text) and ultimately asinine.
