Marvel's Spider-Man is a 2018 action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, it tells an original narrative that is inspired by the long-running comic book mythology, while also drawing from various adaptations in other media. In the main story, the super-human crime lord Mister Negative orchestrates a plot to seize control of New York City's criminal underworld. When Mister Negative threatens to release a deadly virus, Spider-Man must confront him and protect the city while dealing with the personal problems of his civilian persona, Peter Parker.
Gameplay is presented from the third-person perspective with a primary focus on Spider-Man's traversal and combat abilities. Spider-Man can freely move around New York City, interacting with characters, undertaking missions, and unlocking new gadgets and suits by progressing through the main story or completing tasks. Outside the story, the player is able to complete side missions to unlock additional content and collectible items. Combat focuses on chaining attacks together and using the environment and webs to incapacitate numerous foes while avoiding damage.
Development of Marvel's Spider-Man, the first licensed game by Insomniac in its then-22-year history, began in 2014 and took approximately four years. Insomniac was given the choice of using any character from Marvel's catalog to work on; Spider-Man was chosen both for his appeal to the employees and the similarities in traversal gameplay to their previous game Sunset Overdrive (2014). The game design took inspiration from the history of Spider-Man across all media but Marvel Comics and Insomniac wanted to tell an original story that was not linked to an existing property, creating a unique universe (known as Earth-1048) that has since appeared in novels, merchandise, and comics.
Marvel's Spider-Man was released for the PlayStation 4 on September 7, 2018. The game received praise for its narrative, characterization, combat, and web-swinging traversal mechanics, although some criticized its open-world design for lacking innovation. A number of reviewers called it one of the best superhero games ever made, some comparing it favorably to the Batman: Arkham series. It won several year-end accolades from a variety of gaming publications, critics, and game award ceremonies. Marvel's Spider-Man became one of the fastest-selling games of the year, one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 games of all time, and the fastest-selling superhero game in the United States. A three-part downloadable content (DLC), Marvel's Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps, was released monthly from October to December 2018.
Batman: Arkham (also known simply as Arkham) is a series of action-adventure video games based on the DC Comics character Batman,. The franchise consists of four main installments and an upcoming spin-off, along with four smaller titles for mobile devices, a virtual reality game, and tie-in comic books and an animated film. The continuity established by the games is often referred to as the "Arkhamverse", and is part of the larger DC Multiverse.
Eidos had obtained the rights to make a Batman game from Warner Bros. in spring 2007 and approached Rocksteady. The first two games in the series, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, were written by veteran Batman writer Paul Dini and featured voice actors Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprising their roles as Batman and the Joker, respectively, from the DC Animated Universe (DCAU). Conroy and Hamill returned to voice their characters in the fourth main installment of the series, Batman: Arkham Knight. Additional voice actors who reprised their characters from the DCAU include Arleen Sorkin as Harley Quinn in Batman: Arkham Asylum and Robert Costanzo and CCH Pounder as Harvey Bullock and Amanda Waller in Batman: Arkham Origins, respectively.

Spider-Man feels better then the Batman games because he's much faster and the city is so much more alive then the Arkham games where they just have criminals and cops. A lot people say the Batman combat is better but it's actually not because Batman literally relies on one button to keep up your combos while Spider-Man has multiple ways to continue combos and defeat opponents. Batman in comparison feels very limited and most people don't even use gadgets in combat so yeah Spider-Man is the better game but Batman has less fluff and no annoying MJ sections.

Batman doesn't dodge bullets it's literally in the name. It's a "fear takedown" the enemies are too scared and surprised to properly aim and shoot him so he takes advantage and takes a few of them down. If he could always do this then gun enemies wouldn't be able to hit him throughout the game.

7:53 I think to help Spider-Man more here is that Peter has 14 broken bones at this point and STILL walks this off. So a tired and weakened Spider-Man still has a better feat compared to Batman’s feat of tanking being thrown through a wall. A year late on this, I know lol. I think Peter wins in a fight against Batman, both with and without prep time, although it’d be a harder time for Peter to fight against Arkham Batman with that prep time. Peter just has better feats in comparison.

Spider-Man is NOT beating Batman with equal prep on both sides lol wdym? Batman is DRASTICALLY smarter than Spider-Man and it also has a lot to do with the fact on how they prep. When Spider-Man preps for someone, he just builds something off screen that supposedly works. When Batman preps for someone, he makes a calculated, orchestrated series of rhythmic blows which are specifically designed for the character he's fighting against, actively finding out a chink in someone's armor, pretty much making a new anti feat. Peter is as smart as he is dumb, this guy is ridiculously naive and easy to trick, like Black Cat managed to manipulate him and characters like Silver Sable managed to stump him, Batman with prep would absolutely obliterate Spider-Man and I'm unsure how do you even rationalize it otherwise. I love how badass and intimating Arkham Batman looks with his new suit in Knight. Going by all his feats from Origins to Knight, Batman is most likely low tier superhuman along with his extensive knowledge of martial arts. He displayed 19 different styles of fighting I believe throughout the games. He was getting choked out by Bane in Origins while he was getting bigger due to the venom and then got slammed to the floor breaking it and somehow Batman was still alive and didn't pass out. However, all of this won't be able to beat Insomniac Spider-Man because Spider-Man is basically Batman minus the brutal interrogation and pointy ears. Low tier superhuman isn't much compare to actual superhuman and with that spider-sense, Batman would have difficulty just trying to tag Spidey.

I do feel like the "Way of the spider" martial art that spiderman uses is something batman would have an odd time adjusting to as well. Regardless of feats batman is still just within human limitations strength, speed, reflexes, reaction time ect. Spider-Man is superhuman in every category, and no matter how good batman is in a blind fight that was serious, parker is beyond human because remember that parker always pulls his punches, look what happened with kingpin when Spider-Man decided to be serious in the comics and even then he probably wasn't using all his strength and considering that insomniac spider-man is more or less relative to his comic book counterpart I think that's a pretty fair assessment, while I'm not saying kingpin is as good as batman, far from it but just like batman kingpin is human, I do however think batman would win in certain situations such as gadgets, tactical awareness, and experience.

I train in Muay Thai and ju-jitsu and a good fighter, does that mean I can beat someone less skilled than me but physically superior to me without using eye poking or other dirty fighting? And I did say 'not saying kingpin is better than batman' if you actually read my comment properly, and that feat batman did was one time and complete luck because it wasn't that long ago batman got hit by the omega sanction and turned him into a smoking carcass. Batman is walking plot armour plain and simple, and if you want to get technical, while this isn't canon by any means, batman fought Captain America in JLA/Avengers in which he stated he wouldn't win against the captain, you know who else fought Captain America whilst holding back.....yep you guessed it. When serious Spider-Man slaps regular humans around like a ragdoll, again batman is still human and consistently get tagged by street level criminals and in a real fight with no prior knowledge it would be difficult for batman to fight Spider-Man for sure and will probably but will probably win because of spider-man's light hearted nature and pulled punches, which batman can use his experience, technology, and tactical training to pull the win. A serious Spider-Man though is a different story.

Also, all that martial arts training won't be doing Bats any good against someone who can sense his every move and move way faster to dodge, or redirect his hits. Also, Spider-Man lifted the Bugle skyscraper before. I don't see Batman lifting a Skyscraper. And that skyscraper feat isn't Plot Induced Stupidity either, as many times Spidey has shown to be able to be as strong as that, in "If This Be My Destiny", when he lifts much of Doc Ock's underwater base (keep in mind that base had water pressure pushing down on the already 100+ tons of metal that entrapped him, and was flooding in around his lower legs), and in Superior, when Hulk and Thor, the strongest Avengers, had Spider-Man with what they thought was a firm grasp, and Hulk said he felt him move, while Thor admired the strength of 'this mortal' (Superior isn't any stronger than classic, he just has Doc Ock possessing Parker's body). He's also one-shot Rhino in the Fabric Black suit the Black Cat made for him (it doesn't increase his strength at all, it's just a fabric replica Felicia made for Peter cause she thought it made him look better), and has landed a plane when it was malfunctioning with just his strength. Batman just doesn't have much of a chance that someone who literally could KO him with a flick of his finger (he did that in the 90s in a comic where Mark Bagley was the Artist), or at most, a punch.

Nah the Arkham series needs to be rebooted with the amazing writing from city, asylum & knight. Next gen graphics, an open world on par with Gotham knights, a regular batmobile, locations like : the asylum, blackgate, Wayne manor & the cave. A long ass story spanning in game days or months and make it gritty leaning into the detective aspect which Arkham only touched on. Rn the industry’s focusing on co-op rpg style games but a single player batman masterpiece will eventually return. The arkhamverse is finished but Batman isn’t

i think one of the best feats Spidey has shown from the game is stopping a tower crane from falling which weighs at about 400k lbs or 200 tons. Not only does it show off Peter’s strength but his web’s durability as well, no way Bruce is gettin outta that 12:33 it’s wild when you think about it cuz bruce has the better resources 🤣

Isn't it stated that Rhino is at least a city block level character up to a multi-city block level? To which Peter directly scales to (him getting knocked out in the beginning of the Miles game is a big anti-feat, but it is an outlier, considering Peter has dealt with him a bunch of times previously). That feat you're talking about is way to vague since we don't know if Rhino destroyed 6 city blocks in one hit or if he was simply destroying stuff. It's too vague to really get anything concrete. Spider-Man still wins, but still.

Honestly, if Insomniac is to do a game in the Batman universe, I think they should do a game with Nightwing instead. Given how much more acrobatic Dick is, I think the Spider-Man engine would work better for him. When Joker takes hold of his body in the blimp, you see that he doesn't hold back (as it isn't him anymore) and he uses more lethal methods to harm the soldiers. Since the games are so similar to each other. I always wished there was a DLC that both DC and Marvel made that allowed for players to use the maps from the AR and Spiderman's challenges just to test see how each other would be able to handle. At least for the stealth, combat, and gadget challenges. I've always wanted to test Batman out during Taskmasters and Screwball's missions I want to see how many thugs Batman would take out without being seen during the stealth missions. Then Spiderman would also be pretty fun to play as for Batman's AR challenges, he probably could also do Batman's races as well.

@@superluigi9490 Would be funny to because while Screwball would find Batman both interesting and entertaining she would eventually regret it or find him no fun due to the fact at the end of it Batman would most likely break her phones and cameras deleting any footage she had on him, which would probably make him more challenging. Taskmaster would find Batman a worthy opponent based on his intellect, skills, and will (Batman is a guy with no powers who stands up to tough enemies and refuses to kill or give up that's going to count for something. Since Taskmaster likes to copy others fighting styles he's definitely going to want to test Batman out and challenge him just so he can absorb everything Batman has learned, if Batman can outsmart and think quicker then Taskmaster he might be able to hold his own. For Spiderman if use him for any Riddler's maps you will definitely hear a lot of ranting because Riddler would get annoyed at Spiderman's intelligence and knowing Riddler he refuses to admit anyone else is smarter then him. But like I said it's just the AR maps and missions I want for just taking out the regular thugs.

Great video. I'd just like to add in a few things. 1) Batman is absolutely a better martial artist than Peter. But I don't think that's going to help him very much since "Air Combat" is Insomniac Peter's preferred way of fighting. He even says this to Miles during his first holo-training mission: "Fighting the enemy on your terms is a great way to gain the advantage." so you know it's canon. Peter could just launch Bruce up into the air where he's helpless and combo him to death. 2) And speaking of Bane and the Titan Henchmen, is it even fair to compare Bruce to them in the strength category? I've only played Arkham Asylum but the way you defeat Bane is by making him crash into a wall and then cutting off his Venom supply. And Titan Henchmen are defeated in the same way. Stun them by making them crash into a wall, and then go ham on them while they're helpless. Idk maybe the other games introduced a new way of taking them down but this doesn't feel like a strength comparison.

Comparing these two series is bullshit. Arkham series showed the world how good superhero games can be. It made people get interested in superhero video games. It is a trend setter for superhero games. Spiderman games adapted many good aspects of Batman games and refined them with modern technology. Sony pulled out all the stops to market the games and you should expect the sequel to get just as much if not more attention. I can give you a crash course of how they kept it in the minds of the people. 2018 April game informer coverage started and they went in depth with the gameplay combat traversal even the little details like moving eyelenses and even the suit had a video dedicated to it like Spiderman is the first to incorporate carbon fiber in his suit and his white symbol tricking opponents (batman already had that in arkham as explained in universe) then they did the just the facts trailer reiterating that information, then they did even more videos about the suit, combat and traversal again, had a New York subway painted red, game was on billboards, cross promotions with the various movies relating to Spiderman like showing us the iron spider suit close to the debut of infinity war, into the spiderverse suit was added December with silver lining dlc, no way home they had another trailer while releasing the suits same goes for far from home but that was silent release. Miles morales got the same treatment with a demo using the into the spiderverse suit which moved exactly like it did in the movie with the visor and suit mods to created the affect accompanied by the trailer then add a mural and that's without counting the trailers in between. Let's add insomniac studios overall communication with the fans. WB Montreal are quiet for a whole console generation only to come out with Gotham knights game that let's be honest has caused a divide in the arkham community for its direction. Rocksteady goes silent for 5 years only to give us the suicide squad a team let's be honest we didn't want to play as. We are constantly waiting for answers we want to see more but they are quiet. While insomniac has come out and shown that they have Spiderman 2 and Wolverine in development.

As far as games I don't know which series I like more overall but I have specific things that I like more about each, Spider-Man is easier for me to relate to as a main character because he isn't an emotional brick wall, he's younger and is intelligent but realistic intelligent (basically as close as I'm going to get to my Nightwing game unless Gotham Knights ends up being super good), and as far as which character wins a vs. you would think Spider-Man would easily win based on superhuman vs. non-superhuman but superhero content is known for feats and power scaling not lining up at all, and non-superpowered heroes being able to scale to characters that would easily beat them following real-world logic so if Batman can be on a team with mostly superpowered characters many of which are Spider-Man levels of strong and still be considered one of if not the best on the team I have to put portrayal over logic The way the characters are portrayed in the games it seems like they're equal-ish in terms of unarmed combat and stealth, but Spider-Man is better at dealing with armed enemies in a straight fight because of his ability to much more consistently dodge bullets The reason why I'm having trouble with the Spider-Man holding back thing at least in the games is because Spider-Man can actually be knocked out/killed about as easily as Batman despite being able to lift a lot more Him holding back offensively makes sense but I don't know about dying on purpose

Not really, the logic is that both characters at least in the games and movies are often capable of dying or taking similar amounts of damage about equally easily from enemies of similar scale whether it's in game cutscenes or by the implication that the enemies you face while controlling the character are supposed to be a challenge, in this case Spider-Man can't face-tank punches from thugs or gunshots, or Green Goblin's...shuriken things Obviously canonically they don't actually die from gameplay, you could die from just one basic thug or not take a hit during the entire playthrough The Spider-Sense does allow Spider-Man to take on more armed enemies head-on, but bullets don't bounce off of him so that sends the message that even if he's pulling his punches his durability isn't so high that he's not capable of dying to the kinds of enemies you would see in Arkham

Don't forget the Spider-Man prequel book. It doesn't change much feat wise except that Spider-Man fought a martial artist named Echo. Whether this shows that he can withstand a martial artist or shows that a human martial artist can hurt him, idk. Either way it's a detail worth talking about.

Something I gotta add is, Spider-Man, while a genius, is very gullible. He routinely tells his opponents about his spider-sense. I would say that if Batman figured out how the spider-sense worked, he could exploit it and force Peter into a scenario where he's more focused on a barrage of attacks than a specific attack that would get him down for the count. Just a thought.

How can you figure out how something like that works tho? Spider sense isn’t some gadget so there’s no exploiting that. Batman is good at adapting after surviving a encounter with his opponents but spidey sense isn’t something you can adapt to

While don't think insomniac spiderman is anywhere near the level of 616, he's still superior in every way than batman, give his fighting and intellect. Those lightning speeds are not real, out of context. Arkham batman is insane, but be isn't beating spiderman, especially if spiderman actually tries, but either way, he's still coming out on top

Not really you take one character and put him against another you explain their feats, statements, abilities, skill, and experience then you compare the two characters whichever one has the better stats between the two wins

@@turnerbrawley4715 it is not about who the writer “likes more” it is about the situation or the story they are trying to tell. I do believe Spider-Man would beat Batman if they just came across each other on the street, but give Batman time to prepare and plan he is a much different, more powerful beast. I say it’s up to the writers because they can always change a circumstance or want a story to be told in some way.

I notice you give Batman a lot of extra stats based on technicalities, but that is sort of fair considering it doesn’t matter since Batman cannot predict anything Spider-Man will do, while Spider-Man can predict everything Batman can do. Spider man’s spider sense not only tells him he’s in danger, but also how he should react which is how he so perfectly reacts all the time. So it doesn’t how great a martial artist Batman is, Spider man can anticipate and react accordingly. But biggest of all, Batman’s greatest strength is his use of fear and his martial arts. But since Spider man can sense what’s going to happen before it happens neither are an issue to him, plus the major but minor sounding factor that Spider man made his own fighting style. Batman knows nothing about it, and it makes him move in such an inhuman way nothing Batman knows can possibly let him anticipate, especially the moves seen in the PS4 game. Imagine Batman’s surprised when Spider man web zips at him, punches him in the face, then slides under him and knocks him to the ground. You can’t anticipate that. Not to mention, he has some really weird gadgets that make Batman practically helpless. All of his gadgets are designed to set his enemies up to be helpless which are also quite unpredictable especially since it seems his webs fire faster then bullets. If Batman can’t dodge a bullet mid travel how is he gonna dodge an impact web? It doesn’t matter how much knowledge Batman has, Spider man is everything that makes Batman’s techniques useless.

Obviously SpiderMan is physically stronger, But Batman is Mentally STRONGER without a Doubt, With Scarecrow and his new and improved form of fear gas in Arkham Knight, That gas would break down "insomniac SpiderMan" pretty easily. And yes Batman has access to it, "But what if he makes an antidote" It took poison ivy to bring the roots out of an ancient tree to cure the gas, That's my thought on how batman "could" win

I once read that Spider Senses isn't that much different from Superman's senses. Lex Luthor has been said to be able to outsmart both which means Batman might be able to find away around Spiderman's senses as well.
