In most cases, that's untrue. If A is evidence of B, not A is evidence of not B. For instance, if having a broken leg is evidence of me having been beaten, not having a broken leg is evidence of me not having been beaten. That's because evidence is something like a piece of information that makes an outcome more likely; but, by the law of excluded middle (I'm unsure if that's its name in English), something either is or is not, without another option; so, either A, or not A. If A is evidence of B, B will be more likely given A than given not A (if it were equally as likely, knowing that A would be irrelevant to assessing if B, which means A wouldn't be evidence of B). But if we don't know which one is true, A or not A, the likelihood of B will be something between that of B if A and B if not A. All things considered, knowing that "not A" will necessarily lower the probability of B in some level, making it evidence of absence of B. So, if we don't know if there are residues of Superman on the floor, and there being residues of him on the floor is now evidence of his not being alive, the probability of his being alive for our point of view is something in between the likelihood of it given there are residues and the probability of it given there aren't. Thus, once we examine the environment, if we conclude there indeed isn't any residue of his left, the likelihood of his survival increases. The weight of A for B is generally different from the weight of not A for not B, though; the lack of a very strong evidence usually isn't a very strong evidence itself. And in many cases the expected evidence for an event is very low, so that knowing there isn't any can be negligible.

This version of Lex really warmed up to Clark Kent and found him a fascinating specimen of humanity. This Lex ultimately only resented Superman because he wanted a human to save humanity and hated how Superman was more humane than any native human yet still believed all of humanity could get on his level. But without Superman, Lex has to accept his own failings since he can't just blame Superman anymore and he can't stand that.

When the comic The Death of Superman came out, it was actually shocking and well written. The funeral part was really good, at the time I can remember thinking “This can’t be it.” As a kid, I was dying to know how it was gonna end, and I anxiously awaited the next issue. The movies or tv shows have never had the impact the comic did at the time.

Here's the full story of the episode: After getting blasted by Toy Man, Superman disappears. The Justice League can only assume that he's gone, and try to cope with his loss. Lobo comes to the Justice League, hoping to join the team. We then see that Superman is alive, in a desolate world. The only things present are the things Toy Man hit. Superman tries to communicate with the League, but gets nothing. The sun is red, no longer giving Superman his kryptonian powers. He finds a car, gets whatever gas and supplies he can find, and starts exploring. He finds the abandoned watchtower, and meets Vandal Savage, the immortal villain the league has fought many times by this point. Savage is completely docile though, and explains what happened to Superman. They are 30,000 years in the future. After winning a battle against the present Justice League, Savage activated his device, exterminating the entire Earth, except for himself. Completely alone, he reflected on his actions, and realized the errors of his ways. He built up in the ruins of Earth learning whatever he could. He invented a time machine, but it couldn't send you to a time you were already in. But with Superman's arrival, Superman could use it. Together, they finished the time machine, and sent Superman back to the present. He kicks Lobo out of the league, and helps the Justice League to prevent the bad future from happening, effectively destroying the future Vandal Savage. As he is removed from existence, he thanks his friend Superman
