I've watched this movie 100's of times it's so rewatcable and quotable. The score, the atmosphere, jack Nicholson being jack Nicholson In joker makeup and the prince music 😍.

Actually we do Cap.It says clearly that he has been around the world training. Remember when Vicki and Knox was in that room and he had all that stuff. He said he got that statue from Japan. That implies that he has been around the world training. At least to me it always did. I always found it that simple.

My favorite movie of all time in general, I really grew up with the 89 movie just like Batman Mask of the Phantasm, Keaton and Nicholson were epic as Batman and The Joker and the music by Danny Elfman was masterful.

I think that this Batman may have traveled around the world. That room with all the suits of armor may be a clue. He does say that he bought that one piece of armor in Japan.

Batman being late makes sense because she didn't know where the date was, just that it was happening. He probably stopped by her place to look for clues to where she was going.

What did you guys -- and other people here -- think about their having the Joker being the killer of Bruce Wayne's parents? I think it's kind of a cool touch -- like a mythic circle. In the comics it was Joe Chill. But personally, I'd prefer the killer to remain forever unknown, just a nameless street thug who created Batman --- and the mystery would forever haunt him, and drive him.

Bruce could have been late to the museum for several possible reasons. We don't know what time Vicki called, or what time Alfred got the message off of the answering machine. It could have been early evening, and she could have been at the museum already by the time Alfred relayed the message to Bruce. Plus I kind of believe Bruce was at the museum the whole time as Batman scoping out the place from the outside waiting to see who setup this fake meeting with Vicki. If a guy called your girlfriend/wife claiming to be you, the first thing to go through your mind would be that he is a stalker and dangerous, so you would want to suit up if you we're a superhero and take him out. Not to mention when he saw the Joker and his henchmen show up, he would need a few minutes to come with a plan of escape. He couldn't take on 10+ guys at once. Just my theory.
@donnyst.pierre38207 жыл бұрын
When I was little, I thought the laughing bag was telling the audience that the Joker that fell wasn't really the Joker. I thought the bag was a recording of his voice that got damaged when he fell. So, in my mind, the Joker had a fake Joker do everything in the Church with a bag in his pocket that projected a recording of his voice while he escaped to do something else.

The bullet just "grazed" Bruce's coat on the city hall steps. They never tried to imply he's walking around fully armored up at all times. Just like in Vale's apartment. Also, Joker does not have an apartment. He lives in the Axis Chemicals plant. That's just an area of it he decorated up a bit. Good catch on the ridiculous question from Bruce on the dinner date. She WAS just there! Why would she have trouble finding the house. Over 35 viewings, never caught that till you pointed it out. Man.

...The *soundtrack* that Prince did for "89" is a bit cleverer than most give it credit for. It's a look into the minds of the four characters--Batman, Bruce Wayne, Joker, Vicki--as hosted by "Gemini," a half Batman/half Joker construct. Now if only I could find "200 Balloons..."

Cap and Eric! Re-Animator is getting rebooted this year as Re-Animator: Evolution! Now, that subtitle alone should lower expectations, but it's also a modern take, and Combs isn't returning, so I think it'll be really watered down and throwaway.

Was never a big fan of Tim Burton Batman. I grew up watching the Justice League cartoon on TV and renting the vhs & dvds of animated Batman and Batman Beyond at Blockbuster so I developed my idea of who Batman is well before I got around to watching this film as a kid. I have grown to appreciate the significance of the Tim Burton Batman films but in my opinion they are not great.

Batman 89 is my favorite Batman/superhero movie of all time. I new almost every line of this great film and must have watched it over 100 times. Sure it is a little dated but you cannot dispute the impact that it had on pop culture. It also revitalized Batman and helped give us Batman the Animated series which is my favorite animated series of all time as well. What is not to like about this film? It has a great performance by Jack Nicholson as the Joker. It's dark, campy and Gothic. :)

The whole problem with it is that it's Batman. The script---and, therefore, the narrative--desperately wants to treat "Bruce Wayne = Batman" *as the twist* (as did "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde") but, owing to the character's status, it plays out as a foregone conclusion. That iconic "I'M BATMAN" thing is what does it for me. It almost feels like it comes in too early...something _Begins_ got right, by holding out, holding out.
@johnpike71414 жыл бұрын
It’s interesting that you make a reference to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, because modern interpretations of that story suffer from the exact same problem of having the mystery element removed due to the character/story’s iconic status. I’d also recommend reading “Batman: Two Faces”, because it actually solves this narrative issue by literally combining the stories of Bruce Wayne and Henry Jekyll together......
