The guy kept calling the "amp hour" rating (mAh) - "current" 😠 😠 It's CAPACITY - current MULTIPLIED by time, or more accurately a measure for electric charge, not current.

what about Energizer lithium?
@ScottiesTech7 жыл бұрын
Ah, good question! That kind of lithium battery is actually Lithium/Iron Disulfide, which doesn't suffer from the same problems as alkalines. The voltage of those lithium cells stays more constant, the current capacity (mAh) stays relatively constant, and the overall current capacity is higher than standard alkalines. So basically, Energizer lithium cells are the best of both worlds - but they're usually more expensive. Actual lithium-ion batteries are still better overall though than the Energizer Lithium types. But if you need a really powerful AA cell, for example, they're pretty awesome! They're also lighter, and typically have a longer shelf life (up to 20 years).

You might want to mention that alkaline batteries are typically not rechargeable, whereas NiMH and Li-Ion batteries are almost exclusively rechargeables..
@fetB5 жыл бұрын
but can you use li-ion on like dect landline phones, because it's rather old and only has nimh listed. Is the charging tech suitable for li-ion
@ScottiesTech5 жыл бұрын
Nope. Unfortunately, NiMH and Li-ion use different voltages and (more importantly) different charging methods.

My torch requires NiMH because alkalines don't supply enough Amps (even fresh energizers). Voltage doesn't seem to matter as much as amps when you're using 4 D cells

Thanks for your video!! Which is best for a flashlight? I need to use it for as many hours as possible with constant light. How many hours do you think it can last on?
@ScottiesTech9 ай бұрын
It depends on the flashlight... newer ones use more efficient LEDs that output more light with less power. But in general, if it's made for alkaline batteries, use alkaline. I have a li-ion headlamp, and it lasts a looong time... but not at full brightness. It gets dimmer and dimmer as the batteries slowly discharge. If you want max brightness for a longer time period, then I'd go for alkaline.

My question is im trying to make a vaporizer that can be used with some disposable batteries sooo other that lithium what could i use
@ScottiesTech7 жыл бұрын
That's tricky. It depends on how much power you need, and how long you want it to run on a single set of batteries. Anything other than alkaline quickly becomes expensive, and you might need more power than they can provide. For something like that, I'd probably go with 18650 li-ion cells and use a charger for them. Something like amzn.to/2AFQ9Hk and amzn.to/2zFhrNQ. But like I said, how many you'd need would depend on the power requirements of the particular type of vaporizer you're looking to make.

if you want a fast discharge without lithium old fashioned NiCd can dump out a ton of power quick and when you push it too hard it just gets hot and drops voltage, unlike lithium's nasty habit of going nova

It’s so funny that i went on this quest to learn more about batteries for my flashlights. I have a nice Olight warrior mini powered by a rechargeable 18650, but I have quite a few back up lights for emergencies and friends and family powered by AAA’s. Also, I own the black diamond revolt too. I found that Energizer lithium max had the highest Mah rating for AAA’s so I went with those. These lithium AAA batteries are 1.5v, and have a 1,250 Mah rating. Does the voltage remain constant like NiMh batteries? So I get a constant 1.5v with 1,250 Mah that doesn’t diminish? If so wouldn’t these be the best disposable option for flashlights and the black diamond revolt?

Hi Scottie, Question is, which is better for wireless mouse and keyboard? I generally use 4 AAA Duracell non-rechargeable batteries ( 2 AAA for Mouse and 2 AAA for Keyboard ) and gives me in between 2 and 3 months for each one until it lasts. My expectation is long lasting period in one charge like above Duracell providing me. So now i'm planned to move out from non-rechargeable batteries. Please suggest to choose for replacing non-rechargeable batteries to my above requirement. Thanks in advance!
@ScottiesTech7 жыл бұрын
Usually alkaline. Some people like those fancy-pants lithium non-rechargeables, but in my experience they cost a lot more and don't really give much longer life for things like wireless keyboards and mice. I once tried NiMH cells in a wireless mouse, and it was painful! Had to recharge them every month, whereas the alkalines lasted 2-3 months. Plus, where I live anyway, alkalines are recycled.
@NandanShivannaGowda7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick and prompt response. Then i will stick with alkaline non-rechargeable batteries.

nimh low self discharge batteries last well for that kind of use. otherwise old school heavy duty is less likely to leak as long as you pull them out when they run down.

Very confusing the big about the alkaline current drop. If you say that the amount of energy is 1200mAh then I expect it to be there. The available amperage might not stay at a certain level if that is what you were trying to explain. Perhaps separating energy from intensity could be the answer to a less confusing explanation

the biggest selling point of Alkaline I guess it it's discharge rate. technically it doesn't have one. you can stock it at home for 10yrs and the energy inside is still there. while Li-ion on the other hand depleted half of it's energy if you don't use it in just around 3 months.
