Working in Canada -35 winters and construction for 18 years. I Swear by Pasloade. Light, Durable, Reliable and Easy to work on, cheap to repair. Generally if you're worried about the cost of gas, you aren't making enough money.

I’ve had the hikoki for a couple of years and it’s been excellent. Plenty of power and reliability. I’ve used the paslode along side the hikoki and the hikoki was the clear winner. Something to bear in mind in regards to weight is the balance. I found the paslode top heavy where as the hikoki was more evenly balanced making it more ergonomic (albeit slightly heavier)in my opinion. The paslode was also considerably louder and if working in a confined space the gas emissions can be a concern. Hikoki for me

As a young carpenter, Im happy to say that the Milwaukee is my first Framing nailer. I waited for years for something like that to hit the market. I didn't like the DeWalt even though I'm in that platform and I definitely didn't want to lug around a compressor. What a great time to be alive. Now Milwaukee just needs to hurry up and make that tracksaw.

@@hamishrhodes5108 I have the MetaboHpt framing nailer and found a video online where I can refill the air canister by purchasing the proper regulator to do it myself. With Milwaukee I could drop the nailer off at a local service station but with MetaboHpt I had to ship it to Georgia for them to do it. Doing it myself now takes 10-15 minutes instead of 10-15 days

Used a Hikoki this week. Nice kit, bloody heavy. I've had second fix DeWalt nailer for 10 years + solid and reliable, not everyone's bag. I've seen second fix Paslodes flying across sites on occasion, very noisy and unreliable. Interesting review, thank you.

Very happily gave up my Paslode for the Hikoki due to reliability issues and the constant need for servicing to keep the gun at an acceptable level. Moreover, the cost of gas ends up making it a much more expensive gun to own than the others over time. I haven't had any troubles with the Hikoki at all so far which is more than can be said for the multiple Paslode guns I've had in the past. People complain about the weight, but I'd happily exchange a bit of weight for a gun that performs when I need it to.

I’ve had the Milwaukee over a year and it’s honestly amazing and I actually like the weight now, seems to make actuating the nailer easier! With my paslode it’s a pain in the arse to get it to fire when it’s on a odd angle with the weight of the Milwaukee assisting.

I have the Milwaukee M18FFN that's never jammed once over past year. It's much heavier than a Paslode but no gas or routine maintenance cleaning required. If Milwaukee bring out a Gen2 FFN that's much lighter & with a magazine that's about 20mm longer (to hold two strips of nails), they'd be onto a real winner 👍

@@justinhc123 Hi Justin, Thx for info on extended magazine (see they're selling for about £85 👍). Only reason I mentioned extending current "shorter" magazine by 20mm is that I saw a Milwaukee Magazine Modify video where the guy had used a dremel & needle files to carefully cut a bit more off the side blanking at the end of the current stock magazine. This still allowed the Springback lever to work but with the modified stock magazine now holding 2 nail strips instead of 1 (for the life of me, can't find that video again anywhere 😄).

Ive had nothing but issues with my paslode guns, both 1st and 2nd fix units. And when my 2nd fix was in for repair for the 5th time in 6 months they wouldnt warranty it say it had been dropped (?????) Anyway, Milwaukee do redemption deal trade-ins so i traded all my paslode guns in and bought a M18 Framer, 18 gauge finisher and 16 gauge finisher (both brad guns are 2nd gen) These guns are a game changer. The weight on the framer is something that takes a few weeks to get used to, but it fires beautifully. Its easy to actuate and sends the nails home no problems. Very few misfires or jams. Now the brad guns are where the Milwaukee nailers get even better! (I know the 1st gen 16 gauge gun wasnt good but wow what a difference) The 16 gauge is fantastic, reliable, quiet and hits hard into fiber cement and even aluminum headflashings and whatnot. The 18 gauge gun is light, easy to use and great for finishing work and cabinet making. I will never buy another paslode product again. These red guns have turned me for sure. I use Makita for all of my other battery tool so i can honestly say im not biased when it comes to brands here

Have two hikoki nailers, the first roof I did I found it heavy ,after that the weight wasn't an issue, you get used to it and don't feel it, it's like getting used to anything really, feels awkward at first. It all depends on what battery system you want to use, I've everything in hikoki and couldn't be happier, I've the 18gauge finish nailer on the way . The dewalt was too slow for me , pull the trigger and wait, maybe scratch your arse ,have tea and then it fires , it's obviously an exaggeration but that delay is weird

Only use Paslode nails and gas and it's around 2 years old now, never had a jam and only cleaned it once. Bit pricey but it's light & has never failed and it uses full head nails not clipped. We switched from air (Bostitch) to Milwaukee framing nailers last year (have 3 of them). The Milwaukee nailers seemed good at first but over the year all of them have had to go back for warranty work. Another issue we have is the cold (Canada), at -20C they are not very good, often won't sink nails or just fails to fire. Just checking out some reviews on the Paslode framing nailer to see if it is worth trying them or going back to air. I have an older Paslode brad nailer and although that works well most times, at near 0C or cooler it's near useless, but as I said it at least 7 years old maybe there have been some improvements. Here in eastern Ontario we have 2 - 3 months of below 0 weather, with temps going down to -25C or colder. We usually don't work when it is below -20 but there are a lot of -5 to -15 degree days when you don't want to be messing with tools that don't work.

I remember seeing 'Lethal Weapon' for the first time - thought they were great and I was looking around for a black one like in the film but they were all orange. 😉 He fired that without it being in contact but obviously it was a stunt. My mate's apprentice fired a 90 straight through the palm of his hand just before lunchtime one Friday though - I think he was nailing a noggin in and it missed the timber. I had paslode nailers about 14 years ago but as I wasn't using them day in day out the gas would 'go off' and they wouldn't work properly and getting just the gas was a pain as it came with the nails. I sold them and got a compressor and now have the full range of nailers and air tools from Bostitch. The hose is a pain but for the range of jobs I do its fine. A battery first and second fix guns would be nice but as I dont nail every day it would be a waste of a few hundred squid.

Good job fellas. It just goes to show that people like what they are used to. I have used Paseload and didn't care for it. I don't like hoses but the ease of use and speed is still tops for me with pneumatics. I did design a small upholstery gun using supermagnets and a capacitor out of a high speed camera flash but never built it. Too many irons in the fire. Maybe someone more clever than me with more time can do it.

My mate has the Milwaukee and I have the Hikoki they are basically the same thing, had 2 of those Dewalts before I got the Hikoki and the Dewalt is rubbish! First Dewalt lasted 3 months and packed up 2nd Dewalt did the same so would not recommend it at all. The Dewalt you can get for half the price of the other two and there is a reason for it ……. One of the guys working for me has the new Paslode and it is a pain because they changed the gas so you have to buy the paslode nails to get the gas …… as for the weight it isn’t that bad it is heavier but it doesn’t bother me to much

This is the problem with gas less nailers. Alright for a roof tiler but a Chippie not so good for studwork. I’m a paslode through and through Chippie , im360ci never failed me. Service light hasn’t even come on yet.

Weight is the main factor for any nailer. When you got a gun hanging off your arse up a roof those kilos make a substantial difference. Look forward to the day when the manufacturers create a usable gun.

Three Hikoki guns failed of the same problem after 6 months, the spring that pushes the nails up after firing just isn't strong enough have to manually push the nails up after every shot. Three different guns same problem all bought within 2 years. GX90 really good gun shame its almost 800 quid. Paslode is the lightest, 350 struggles to drive 90s in all the way, yeah the gas gets cold but chuck it in your pocket in the morning and it's fine. The 360 gas bit expensive but overall better guns than the gasless alternatives in my opinion.

The Hilti rep turned up on site and we went their to film it but he brought a concrete nailer instead of the framing nailer. He was an idiot, started trying to sell us a collated screwgun instead. My guess is he is no longer there.

I've had the im360 since they first come out. I actually think they are better than the new im360 version as it simply wakes up when you pick it up and new version you need to press the button to turn on. The hilti used in the past and wast great and was a bit unreliable and 2 broken piston rods in 2 years. The dewalt I've tried and hated. The hikoki and milwauke no experience with but the weight puts me off. Despite the imperfections I stick with the paslode. Just imagine if paslode decided to do away with the gas and the weight was low then we talking

Had one of the dewalt and a paslode alway took the paslode with me hated the dewalt because of the ramp up time In germany we Never got the bump fire mode Where I’m working now we got hikoki I like them very much I would like to give a go to the Milwaukee Double Magazin is a plus that the other ones don’t have Interesting would be one that could fire 100mm nails like the im100 by paslode

My mate just got the Milwaukee pair - 1st and 2nd fix. The 1st fix is great, but when I use it I'm so used the fan whirring on my paslode, I keep thinking the battery's dropped out. It lasts well over a day on a full cahrge though and very rarely leaves the head sticking out like my paslode does, when hitting a knot. But the 2nd fix gun... we had a problem with that: the 38 and 50mm brads kept jamming in the gun - until we realised it takes 18 guage brads, not the 16 guage we had for the paslode! I've tried to find an exploded view of the internals, because I'm puzzled as to how the hell it packs so much power from an 18v 5ah battery. Does anyone know how they work?

I thought Power nails were obsolete, I remember my son-in-law 15 years ago having one , and how they were very good but you needed gas batteries packs of thousand nails 5000 nails are very costly but the alternative was hammer and nail. The big change was when we started getting reasonably priced power battery tools from China that the average man could afford this coupled with Phillips head screws easy drive from then on to today he has used power tools power drills and quick drive screws which every tradesperson seems to be doing the same. And then along came lie on battery is going up from 2/3/4/5/9 amps , So I’m rather surprised you’re doing a test on power nailers . I would love to know the reason why Alan

The Hilti BX3 IS NOT a framing nailer! Far from it. The BX3 replaces the traditional nailer called the gx3. There is still a GX90 gas framer for roofing. It’s for attaching steel/wood to concrete and steel, mainly for interior finishing and stud work. Can be used for electricians but definitely not a roofing tool.
