Hi there Dave , I have just purchased the hikoki framer, the weight and balance is pretty good compared to others . NAIL EQUIP in Lilydale Victoria does a nose mod for the gun for about $90.00. It's a lot easier for scew nailing .I was full time framing with senco air guns sn-4 & sn-70 which were heavier than the hikoki framer. The nose mods are well worth getting the gun is so much better.

Hey mate I have a heap of these guns the misfire is really a killer chuck a bit of graphite powder in the track where the nails go in and also the coil that you pull back to load the nails and pull it back and let go a few times then load the nails back in and should be sweet! Also was speaking to a hikoki rep and he was saying that the paper that hold the nails can bind up and cause a issue just take the top off and clean out cheers mate

I totally agree on the frustration of spring tension and miss firers. Give the machine a good clean out and lubricate and it comes good. I agree you shouldn't have issues after 3 months. Good hikoki rep in Melbourne, definitely worth having his number, super helpful guy big reason why my green tool numbers are growing. Also hanging out for next generation, I'm hearing 1kg lighter! Never going back to gas.... 18v 3ah batteries help with weight alittle too. Happy nailing and keep up the great vids

never going back to gas. I owned this gun for 4 years, zero issues. Like you said, it needs to be cleaned if it begins to misfire. But the interval to which I have to clean the gun is far less frequent than when I had to service and clean my old Paslode guns. Owned 4 Paslodes, 2 Framers, 2 finshers. Too unreliable, always in the shop. Always needed servicing just to get somewhat close to the performance of this unit. Switched and never looked back. Oh and you don't need an expensive, special fuel to drive nails either. Win.

Good review this is the exact things I’ve noticed and had issues with using my hikoki framer. I love the gun but there is definitely some things that could’ve been done better. There angle grinder is the best though hands down.

The pressure to depress the tip can be lessened by cutting the spring down that’s in the gun. It’s also lighter then the milwaukee by 300 grams, that paired with a 3ah makes it a much nicer gun to use.

good point, any tips or info on doing this?

@@whtevr1212pull the clam shell apart. Take out the spring behind the tip, cut about 1/4 of it off.

Great review, enjoyed your analysis. I don’t think anything is good enough to fully replace the paslode yet but it doesn’t hurt having a battery gun too.
@paulknights17648 ай бұрын
Battery only guns , are improving on each release, but Paslode still rules , which is testament to them considering the technology has stayed the same, apart from adding li-on batteries. Being lightweight is key for a 1st fix nailer , and that extra kick from the gas ,gives it the power. Great review, but don’t get rid of that Paslode just yet …. 👍🏼
@paulknights17648 ай бұрын
@JustAChippie well if you have to supply your own fixings , then yes I’d go for a battery only gun . But for every day use , they are too heavy in my opinion. As technology moves forward, for sure Paslode will have to change something. But for now , they are still the best framer nailer out there.

Hey Paslode was first but it’s becoming the second and third behind in recent new technology.

I am looking at getting the Hikoki as I have seen good reviews testing against other guns and the price is reasonable. I would try silicone spray in the clip holder to fix the misfires.
@weliveonearth80122 ай бұрын
Hikoki is actually lighter weight than Milwaukee. You probably looked at Hikoki with batteries and nails and M18 empty (no battery or nails). New Makita will be between in weight but with a longer magazine than Hikoki and hopefully better balanced so it may end up being the sweet spot with current technology. Even the new Dewalt flywheel is now about the same weight. The prior version Dewalt was noticably lighter, but lacks power and reliability. Paslode is now the only one of the 4 that is noticably lighter (but lacks power and is less convenient with the gas and maintenance). I'm fairly certain Milwaukee is the heaviest but most powerful, unless the new Makita matches it.

i had the same frustrations with my gun with the skewing of nails, take it to nail equip and they will cut the spring and weld on some better teeth for skewing. also switch the rafter hook to the other side so it can sit in 35 timber and wont stop it from spinning it around for 90 timber

I love mine ,had it for over 12 months. the misfires are mainly from a build up of paper from the nail clips. you just need to clean it out occasionally.

I use the Paslode coil nailer a lot. Villa sheets in bathrooms😁 If I don't keep a drop of oil down the firing pin on each magazine change? The f'er will jam on me or misfire! (Villa, and particular bathrooms are dusty) I started having a problem with my Makita 16ga finisher. I started a drop of oil down the firing pin on that. Bingo!... No misfires! So, a drop of oil (machine oil, I can imagine would be fine) in the magazine and firing pin would be a reasonable idea?

I'm not a framer so not using it as often as a chippy but as a steely still use it quite a lot because most of the time end up having to do the framers job because some framers don't set their pockets for the steel right or if it's pre-fab the pockets are usually wrong. I haven't had an issue with misfiring for a long time, I used to have to hold the rack too and a bit of wd-40 used to get it going again but the gun is quite old now and doesn't really misfire at all, maybe these guns just need a bit of wearing in. The battery is annoying too, when it shows 2 bars but is nearly dead is a pain in the ass. I'm happy with the gun, I don't recommend it, though, I get apprentices ask about it all the time and I usually say go with Paslode or Milwaukee if you really want to go battery, the Milwaukee are weighted not the best but overall they shoot better and you can skew far easier because the tip on the Hikoki is much to be desired.

The only time the hook has been useful is when up in the trusses and being hable to hang it off the rafters etc. my rafter hook broke one day as i stepped down off a ladder, the step down and then sudden stop on the ground just snapped the hook in half. Am now using just a regular makita hook on it. this also prevents the annoying spinning the gun will do when hanging on the belt. i have had this gun 18 months and i am now only having issues with misfires. definately worth the money as only having to buy nails and no gas is so cheap
