I took my 18v OZITO saw out camping a few weekends ago. I bought the saw because like you, all my cordless power tools are from the OZITO range. I bought mine because it is quick to get the bar and chain off for storage, all my batteries fit it and can cut continuously for about 45mon- an hour if I need to before all my batteries are depleted, AND the warranty is too notch as well... The MOST important factor for me though is how quiet it is, I can go knock a tree over 40m from camp and nobody would know. There is a new OZITO battery saw which is around the equivalent to the AEG in your video. I may end up buying that one as well for the jumbo logs, but for now my little saw will do just fine for cutting campfire wood and clearing trees over tracks. 2 stroke is old school and for what I need doesn't even get a look in when buying a saw these days. Thanks for taking the time to make your video. Good stuff!

A good review there Cam. The other thing to mention is that one doesn't need to have ear muffs/plugs when using the battery chains saw, I like that!

I have a Stihl battery...the biggest version with the best battery. The thing is awesome. I have a small RedMax and a huge Husky gas 2 stroke. Both are wonderful, but the battery saw for small to moderate cutting is awesome. I wouldn't use it for commercial service, but for overlanding it would be great. The battery lasts long, too.

Do you have the charger in your vehicle? If so how do you find the battery in the charger when driving? It doesn't seem as secure as the AEG Battery Charger for securing the battery. Do you have to secure it to the charger with velcro or something similar to stop it bouncing out? Many thanks Paul.

Great honest review mate....I recently bought an 18V AEG brushless chainsaw for camping (already have many 18V AEG Battery tools), and it works a treat cutting up to 12 inch logs.... very quiet, very quick, and one 6AH 18V battery gives me around 100 cuts x 12 inches through hardwood.... very impressed to say the least, no more 2 stroke fuel, no ear plugs, and no more pull starts on the shoulder/arm... luv it !! Cheers... PS. and my wife can easily use it too not having to pull start it..

I have been in the building industry for the best part of 40 years and have noticed all my battery powered tools need to be replaced after the 5 year mark because parts are obsolete or technology changes which makes them useless and need to replace the whole unit , with the corded power tools and my petrol chainsaw still going after 15 years, just add petrol, but yes maintenance is a must.. not knocking the battery powered tool, very convenient, but they don't build them to last, sales men just say buy a new one ! good review mate thanks.

I have a 2-stroke saw and while the saw has a ton of power and I pretty much never worry about not being able to do the work I need it to do …..there is a lot of “support equipment” that a gas saw needs to stay running. Fuel, engine oil to mix, a mixing container (you could also go with the canned fuel but that’s more expensive by volume. Plus there’s more stuff to go wrong on the gas saw. Having some simple spares of things like a spark-plug and an air filter are important to have on them. All of this stuff takes up space in your rig and adds to overall weight not to mention its messier. A battery saw is pretty much ideal because at that point (in terms of support equipment for it you are talking bar-oil, a charger and whatever amount of spare batteries you want or think is necessary for the task. If your batteries roll over you AREN’T getting gas and oil everywhere. Discussing the times when you will most often use the saw: During overlanding it’s pretty much going to be a) cutting firewood or b) clearing (usually) a small obstruction. A compact 12” or 14” top handle(arborist style) battery saw will 9 times out of ten be more than enough tool to accomplish those tasks, and it will take up a fraction of the space that a gas saw would take up but most of the time you won’t NEED that added performance boost that a gas saw will give you but if you have a gas saw you WILL have all of the drawbacks of the requirements for a gas saw without ever usually reaping the benefits of the added performance…. If you already have a gas saw I’d say go with a better one for camping and overlanding…. If you do NOT have a decent gas saw it’s probably worth it to get one of those first because ALL of your bases can be covered. If you are a trades guy and already have Milwaukee, Makita or Ryobi batteries… you can save some money in a system by getting that brand battery saw as a barstool. However if you aren’t already invested in a system the Stihl or Husky battery powered set-up is a great full package… battery saws are also nice because they are more quiets with is great if you are at a campground and don’t want to disturb your neighbors

The battery saws still eat way to much battery when cutting large wood like this. When the saw is bogging it is using a massive amount of power killing the battery super fast as well as hard on the battery do to the heat it causes from that power draw. When a gas saw is bogging it is just bogging none the less still beating the hell out of the clutch and the saw. Always just best to have the right size saw for the job. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

Depending on your brand might be worth battery as well because so many of the big brands are coming out with them. Like you mentioned with your ryobi My impact wrench is Milwaukee brand and I usually carry it. I know Milwaukee makes a chainsaw that has great reviews. But I also have a lot of Makita tools and needed some new batteries and since there was a sale on for Makita chainsaw + 2 5amp batteries and a few blower for $500 was a pretty good deal. Both are 16" saws. And DeWalt has one as well. Haven't used it camping yet but used it for other stuff and it's been a beast. Compared in videos to other gas Husqvarna and Stihl and it was great matched if not out performed. And a few reviews say they are even better than the echo, Stihl and Husqvarna battery powered ones Obviously in my case I don't actually have two of the same brand tools but obviously could have. It was just a better deal and more useful for me to get Makita. But I know a friend of mine is saying he's looking into the Milwaukee since he has so many tools from them already. I think for 4wd use and around the house they can't be beat. No maintenance compared to gas. And with the technology now days. I know the Milwaukee with 12amp battery one review said 52 cuts through 14 inch hard wood. Before it died. Makita was 44 cuts. I've seen some arborist say battery is their go to for small jobs now as it's so much easier and quieter. But for all day long cutting gas is the go to.

Mate enjoying your travel blog thanks! Yeah about chain saws, as I am always tinkering with them, my wife even banned me from pruning our cherry trees for a few years after I over did it. But I highly recommend you invest in a quality chainsaw, don't buy the cheap ones, they don't last and they don't cut wood. Also, I would recommend a tungsten carbide tip chain, they cost more, but with Australian hard woods, your better off. Plus a good sharp chain on a quality chain saw is always safe ... oh yeah you probably know never let them run dry!

Hi Aussie cuzzy. Me from Oamaru New Zealand. Hey crank up the Stihl first and warm up. Use the carb adjustment screw driver when running and adjust the screw marked 'H' with throttle on full tit. Adjust until it reaches a sweet spot. Then on the 'L' adjust until it idles well. Another tip. Every 10 chain oil fills when empty just put 1/2 cup full of 2 stroke mix in and shake then drain to rinse out any debris.

Electric saws are great for the medium sized timber. But when you're series about cutting wood you can't go past 100cc of Husqvarna muscle. Hardly any maintenance, reliable, no replacing batteries and no need for chargers onboard. But hey I love the smell of 2 stroke so it's also the experience for me. For small stuff electric all the way. Great review mate! Keep it up.

I personally wouldn't buy the 18v unless you go the brushless version, I have owned the one he is using in this vid and its far from great, however the brushless one is in a different league and is actually quite impressive. it obviously has its place (for me, that is a full time car saw, its been great, will cut up to 300 mm, not fast but it does it, best suited to 6' logs or less tho, what im getting to is that its good enough to get you out of trouble)

Mate your wrong and I wouldn’t be be saying that about AEG’s warranty. AEG is NOT a replacement warranty, it’s a repair warranty (takes 2-4 weeks, not fast) so if your on the road are you going to stay in one place for 4 weeks waiting on your AEG chainsaw to come back from repair in that town. Just needed to correct that. Sorry mate.
@WildTouring5 жыл бұрын
Not according to the ACCC "When you have a major problem with a product, you have the right to ask for your choice of a replacement or refund". But of course they'll try it on sometimes. I'd be surprised for a big company like Bunnings to be bothered with paying freight to a third party repairer, and then an hourly rate to strip the product, diagnose the fault and then possibly not be able to repair it. 9/10 times they'll replace it on the spot. That's been my experience with most electorics bought from bunnings/supercheap/bcf etc... But we'll see.
