1) Kudos for clarifying that you are NOT a hunter, that your opinion is somewhat limited on this particular box theme, and referencing Video Addict for an experienced review. 2) I thought the Zip Pro skinning knife was ho-hum, but you astutely provided an alternative usage model ("emergency services folks" as a rescue tool) that completely changes my mind - now I love it. You actually spent quite a bit of time demonstrating the sharpness of the blade, further reinforcing my change of mind. GREAT demo on this knife. Overall, I would give you 5-stars for honestly (I highly value honesty as I suspect most of your subscribers do), but only 3-stars for overall insightful review comments. At the end of the day, I give you an overall 5-stars (skewed based on honesty).

As someone who has butchered a few deer I can tell you that the butchering set will do the job, probably if you keep it good and sharp. As a butcher for a time in H.S. I can tell you that it could never be complete, however a butcher has 2 or three "go to" knives and one that he uses more than any other. You could definitely get by with that one.

The outdoor edge knives and the book seem to be the bright spots in this one, I have the larger set, they aren't great but they were a gift and they serve their purpose for the most part. .... Not sure the blowgun would put a field mouse down without an extensive tracking process afterwards.

Thanks for being honest about your lack of hunting knowledge. I agree with you about the arrowheads. $25 is too much for what's included. In addition, in a survival situation, it'd make a lot more sense to have one or two fishing prongs and the rest being identical broadheads. Having different size/weight ones just adds unnecessary variety to an already difficult task if you're using handmade arrows. Regarding the blow gun, it's such a gimmick. They could have put in a decent slingshot for the price that could actually be useful. The book is cool, as is the reverse blade gut hook and the nicely made snares. I could see the disposable skinners being nice to pack in case something happened to your primary skinning knife, but the processing pack is a bit silly. For a beginner, okay, but for hunters, everyone has certain grips they prefer for their skinning knife and guthook. The bone saw and rib spreader are a mystery to me. In the field, you can cut between joints with a knife to dress an animal enough to pack it out, and once it's back, a hacksaw with a good blade is more comfortable and faster than what's included in that kit. I don't know of any hunters that use rib spreaders. You can gut an animal without spreading them, and if they're in the way for whatever reason, the previously mentioned hacksaw makes quick work of them. The retriever seems useful I guess? Again, thanks for a nice, honest review.
@DocP91B6 жыл бұрын
That is a greath thought about the weight and size difference of the arrowheads. I didn't think about that. Having to judge for a different shot each time is definitely not the most effective way to be accurate with anything. Thanks!

To be technical there is only one BattlBox. That's their company name. There are alot of subscribtion boxes and if I told you one was the best that would just be my opinion. I've always liked BattlBox. I definitely don't like Alpha Outpost, EDC Box, and ClubTac. Some other good ones Ive been happy with have been Never Enough Tactical and Barrel & Blade. I would say take a look at the prices of those and see which fits your budget best. If you have a choice of more than one watch some videos and pick the one that has the items you like the best.

I liked this box. The blowgun was gimmicky (but I bet super fun). I think the arrowheads would be great to keep in a bug out / shtf bag as a last resort hunting tool. I hunt deer but we've never done our own butchering. This box might get me to try it.
@billmandj04856 жыл бұрын
It really rounds out the whole experience, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than paying a butcher shop to do it, and wondering if you're actually getting the meat from your deer, or some other guy that gut shot his and let it get all over the meat
@heathellison52646 жыл бұрын
We've had problems with that in the past. The place we go now is expensive, but they guarantee you get only your deer and so far we haven't had any reason to think differently. And the jerky/sausage/bacon/sticks they do are absolutely delicious. Plus local butcher shops are becoming exceedingly rare, so I don't mind helping out a small town business. But I definitely want to try some of our own, especially for just getting some ground venison.

On the arrowheads, they are at the high end (some high end broadheads are about $10 a piece and people buy those, but I can't personally vouch for them being that much of an improvement) and the fact that they are notched instead of screw in makes them a serious pain in the ass if you are using standard equipment, but meh. That being said, some of those tips are really gimmicky. I think the postal service owes you some money. That blowgun being bent was probably their fault too. I don't know if you realized that... Personally, I think it might be kind of fun making spears or whatever out of those arrow heads, but you're absolutely right, they're gimmicky and don't really appear to be worth the price. I'm sure a cave man or Indians thousands of years ago would think they're amazing... I want that book! If anyone reading this wants to sell me their book at a major discount, I'm interested... I don't really see the point in the processing kit. The only thing you're really gaining from that is the saw. You already had a much better skinning hook in the "advanced" box, and a few disposable knives. The only reason you really have to bring the kit along at that point is for the saw. I think just a nice saw would have been a better addition to this box than the processing kit... Thanks for sharing. I recently subscribed to Battlbox, thanks to videos like this one. I haven't received my first box yet though. I'm a little confused about how the billing/shipping works out. It's like I'm paying a month in advance. I was charged immediately upon subscribing (Nov. 4th) and then I'm supposed to get billed again and they will do the first shipment to me on Dec. 15th? So I'm paying twice by the time they send me the first box?

@DocP91B6 жыл бұрын
A snare is a trap. You place it so an animal gets caught in the lop and pulls it tight on itself. The harder they struggle and pull, the tighter the loops gets and holds them. You can place them simply or more complicated to where it can trip a device that snaps the snare to forcefully close the loop and grab the animal.
