Note: The solar still bags are intended to be put around foliage that's still planted. It collects the water that plants shed through transpiration. (Thanks, Google, for finding the term for me.) I remember that we had a tree in the back yard that, at times, would "rain", even when there wasn't a cloud in the sky, it shed so much water.

I never subscribed to them, and it doesn't look like I'm going to any time in the future. Great video Doc!!! Can't you just eat the plants to get the water out of them instead of waiting for water to evaporate out of them? I love the R.A.T.S. tourniquet I have 4 of them. Is this a book of the month club? WTF!? The spray bandage stuff is cool. We use Alumashield on our horses when they get minor cuts; which basically does the same thing, but better, for half the price. Ugh on the gloves and "Survival Bivy" (I'd rather they just send me a roll of aluminum foil because at least then you can cook with it). WOW!!! That is the worst "Day Pack" that I have ever seen, for any price, ever. WTF?!?!?! Something about rivets in knives' scales and in sheaths just SCREAMS cheap!!! If I was reviewing this box, then I would put the over under on the number of times that I dropped a "F-Bomb" at 37.
@krknfmkr89194 жыл бұрын
Rivets in the sheath help prevent the knife from cutting the stitches. It happens. Pins in the handle help hold the scales on; epoxy is not enough, especially with wood or antler scales. Molded rubber and plastic handles are literally "molded" on to the tang and require special equipment. It costs more and takes more time and work to use pins and rivets
@JohnnyVeritas4 жыл бұрын
@@krknfmkr8919 If you are worried about the knife cutting the stitches on the sheath, then wouldn't it be better to put the stitching on the other side of the sheath or at least put in a rawhide or plastic liner to protect the stitching instead of a rivet that has the potential to dull your blade every time that you remove or return it to the sheath? I just don't like rivets on the scales because it reminds me of those cheesy steak knives from the 70's, but I don't know a whole heck of a lot about knives, other than a lot of it seems to boil down to personal preference.
@krknfmkr89194 жыл бұрын

While I'd like to say your review was harsh, upon reflection, I agree with your review; however, you *sound* harsh. 1) I think you were spot on regarding the clear plastic bags. Clear tarp may have greater utility (especially if you carry duct tape and can make your own bag) 2) I think you were spot on regarding the fictional book for so many reasons (such as your comment that books are highly personal) 3) Nice spiel on RATS. I've received several and hope to never have to use one. 4) The Klymit backpack's airframe is intriguing, but I'm not sure how valuable the pump is for a small pack (10L-20L ???). I would grade you out as a tough reviewer, but I get a lot of value out of your opinions (don't necessarily agree with everything you say, but thanks for giving me food for thought).

Survival "Hydro" kit is a joke. First tell is that they use the pretentious word "hydro" (Greek for "water") to market it. It's a plastic bag, some duct tape, and a straw - for US $13! You can build a conventional solar still (most often used in the desert) as follows: (1) dig a small hole in the ground; (2) place a small container like a can in the hole; (3) place a piece of transparent plastic sheet over the hole, using rocks to hold it in place; (3) place a rock in the middle of the sheet so it dips down in the middle over the can. That's it. As the sun rises heat gets trapped under the sheet and causes moisture from the surrounding soil to evaporate. The water vapour rises, hits the plastic sheet, condenses, and because of the dip in the sheet flows down and drops from the low point into the can. I admit capturing moisture from plants has never occurred to me. Not sure how well it would work, but the concept seems sound, though as with a conventional solar still it needs to be a very warm / hot day to cause evaporation. Thing is, you can get a plastic bag, duct tape, and a straw for a whole lot less than $13.
