You were definitely right there, Jeff: When I saw the diagrams, I thought those arrow heads would be similar to the thin sheet metal card-sized survival 'kits,' and be hardly usable. Those arrow heads would be quite stout in a makeshift arrow or atlatl type spear!
@zebanon55 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they'd be a lot more fitting for an atlatl. Very good thought. I would maybe have one like that, and make some much flatter ones for the other socket. You could maybe fit 4 in there without them being toooo thin.
@youtubevoice10505 жыл бұрын
On the contrary. These arrow heads are way too thick. Not only will you struggle getting them into a shaft, they aren't sharp on the sides either. Everyone who hunts with bows will tell you that you need sharp arrow heads, not just a sharp tip, or else they won't properly kill. And since they have no barbs these aren't good for fishing either.
@MikeBaxterABC5 жыл бұрын
@@youtubevoice1050 I agree .. Actually harvesting game with a home made bow, and arrow, is almost impossible for someone who does not have a lot of experience ... just a waste of calories in an emergency situation ... I see those little arrow heads useful as a short spear to spike frogs or maybe fish in shallow water (spike them to the bottom and hold) ... while it MAY be possible to get a lucky hit on a stupid squirrel with home made arrow ... just searching to find one lost arrow, would use more calories than a squirrel has in it.

They forgot to include the manual on how to build a bow & gut/sinew string with no tools other than that knife. Those arrowheads by themselves are worthless gimmicks. If you can build, string, tiller a bow, from scratch, in the wilderness, with just a knife and some scraping rocks.... You can probably already make suitable arrow heads. Even sharp edged wood arrow tips will work _once_. If you /need/ *those* arrow heads... your s it outta luck for the rest of your gear. Not to mention... If you're able to make a bow for hunting... You're able enough to walk out in the same period of time.
@AdamWhistle15 жыл бұрын
I agree completely, these are nothing but gimmicks. Putting in firesteels, whistle (for signalling for help) or similar small but very useful things would have been more useful. You need firesteel more than an arrowhead. And making more hollow space to put in small stuff like that would have been smarter. But then again, you never need JUST the knife, you want a small bag that also includes stuff like tarp, canteen, waterfilter, compass, etc.

I'll pass. If I needed/wanted to carry stuff in the handle of my knife (which I don't) I'd get a knife with a hollow handle that I didn't need a tool to open. Heck, even the Bud K and United Cutlery hollow handle knives come with a better selection of practical "emergency/survival" items than that thing does. As-is, the only useable thing it comes with is a tiny little bit of tinder. (what good are the hooks without fishing line?) Thanks, but I'll continue to carry my emergency gear in either a backpack, a fannypack, or a possibles bag. Those "arrowheads" look pretty useless to me. They have what? A 0.5 inch cutting diameter and are near 0.25 inch thick? They won't penetrate very well using any bow you make out in the boonies (if you even know how to make a self bow and some arrows, and have the tools and proper materials available to make them.) Come to that, unless you know how to aim and shoot a barebow (a bow with no sights) you ain't going to hit what you be shooting at when first starting out, anyway. If you do, why not just put a take-down bow and a half dozen arrows with field points for small game (not like you'll be shooting a deer or larger) in your pack?

I like the ideas of being able to carry less and have more, but ultimately, can you make a bow in the bush? Like, humans when it comes to survival in the woods think of ourselves as this great hunter gather alpha species. Like, I wouldn't waste my little resources on making a bow, arrows, or an arrow tipped spear unless I really had to for like, wolves, coyotes, bears, bobcats, angry elk or something. And even then my knife would be a far quicker and safer choice than some hastily made tool. The hooks are useful, if you're near water that actually has fish in it, but if that's the case, I'm sure your bug out gear has a fishing pole and tackle box. I dunno, which is more useful, the generic hilt kits that include some matches, a button compass, a striker, and some thread? or some arrowheads and some hooks with no line? Then again, if you buy this knife, I'm sure you're trading the fishing pole for a bow and arrows already.
@DirkDaJerk5 жыл бұрын
You could probably use the eyelet on the handle to make a lanyard from some 65lb test braided fishing line. Not only will you have as much fishing line as you want, it will also be strong enough to affix your arrow heads to your homemade shaft. You'd have to check the size of the eyelets on the hooks, but even if 65lb braided line is too big you can go with something a little lighter. As long as you stay with braided line, it should work well with the arrow heads also
