Tool Expertise isn’t often understood by the dnd community, because it’s not super clear what it does outside of the obvious. Remember that Artificers use tools to cast their spells. All their spells add the Material component if they don’t have it already, and that component is the requirement to be using tools. Whenever you make an ability check using a tool you’re proficient in, you add your proficiency bonus. Expertise doubles that proficiency bonus. Artificers use tools they’re proficient with to cast Dispel Magic, and it calls for an ability check, so Tool Expertise means you are adding 2x your proficiency bonus to Dispel Magic rolls. Unfortunately Artificers don’t get Counterspell unless they have the Dragonmark of the Sentinel. You would add it there, too. There’s no definition of the word “use” in the rules that precludes this. If you’re using tools, you’re using them. Add the bonus.

Armorer artificer + Bladesinger. I mounted a su woofer on my backpack and my bladesong was Song of Eternity from Deam Teather. So epic!

I have a similar character. I feel like the Mobile feat helps a bunch to disengage and hit multiple targets that are not close together.

The Armorer Artificer’s Thunder Gauntlets (as well as the Beast Barbarian’s claws, but that’s not important right now) are treated as simple melee weapons when the hand is empty. That means they’re technically also Monk Weapons. Five levels of Monk could get you an extra gauntlet smack as a bonus action with the optional Tasha’s features, Ki-Fueled Attack (level 3) and Focused Aim (level 5). The funny part is, Unarmored Defense, Martial Arts, and Unarmored Movement are the only base class features that require you to not wear armor or a shield, so you could still use Patient Defense or Step of the Wind if the opportunity arises. The only big issue would be the stat distribution. The gauntlets would still need STR to hit, because of the loss of martial arts. You would need INT for your spells. And you’d need a minimum of 13 in both DEX and WIS for the multiclass. It could technically be done, though it may require a sacrifice to CON. Edit: I was mistaken about the stat requirements. STR isn’t really necessary at all as the gauntlets use INT for attacks and damage, and any strength requirements for the arcane armor are also removed.

The gauntlets can use INT instead of STR or DEX
@NINJAfries078 ай бұрын
@@BlazingFire258 You are correct. For whatever reason, I was looking for a separate feature for that (like what the battle smith gets) rather than checking the feature that grants the gauntlets itself. Good catch! That makes things significantly simpler

i made something similar with warforged, defence fighting stile and 1 dip into forge cleric for bless and extra armor (was aiming for 6 level dip there for roaming around in spirit guardian, still good even with low wisdom, but i never got there) the AC made the DM cry... a lot

If you want the tankiest race, go with a Mark of Warding Dwarf, which nets you a Con and Int bonus as well as Armor of Agathys and being racially a Dwarf. This synergizes with Armorer, and the Durable and Dwarven Fortitude feats, which lets you regain a minimum of three times your Con mod whenever you take the dodge action. I prefer to go 4 levels into Artificer, then the rest in Wizard (specifically Abjuration for Arcane Ward, but Bladesinger is super fun as well as it lets you add your Int mod to AC). But if I went Battle Master, I’d turn the Armorer into a power armored Monk, using maneuvers and Thunder Gauntlets to fake Monk abilities. Would still dip into Wizard, probably Bladesinger, to net Blooming Blade and a high AC.

I might take something other than Githzerai, there are points of access for the shield spell with fewer opportunity costs. I'm not the biggest fan of custom lineage/variant human, but there are so many great feats for this concept [Telekinetic +1 int; +2 int; mobile; sentinel; warcaster; resilient +1 con/wis; +2 con; healer; or some of the many post-tasha's feats that may be useful], that it's hard to discount. The updated Hobgoblin could also be good for saves, attacks and bonus action help with added effects. I would start with 17 in Int and take the Telekinetic feat along the way to 20 int to reposition allies at will [they can willingly fail the save] Battle master fighter (3 or 4) [w/ superior technique fighting style] + war wizard (2) [shield spell + arcane deflection reaction, because you will always have 5 or fewer uses of flash of genius and shield spell slots. If you intend to take resilient at some point, starting as wizard may be good for the +1 con later on] + armorer artificer (14 or 15). You should be cautious of potential reaction glut [flash of genius, mind sharpener, arcane deflection, opportunity attacks, sentinel, shield, absorb elements, riposte, brace, guardian's perfected armor]

@CivilWarMan8 ай бұрын
A big caveat with that build is that Bladesong does not work if you are wearing anything heavier than light armor. Light armor can be turned into an Armorer's Arcane Armor, but it does mean you would have to invest in Dexterity in order to optimize your AC.
@akmi19318 ай бұрын
You would be doing that anyway as a Bladesinger
@elliotbryant34598 ай бұрын
@@CivilWarMan or you could just use bladesinger wizard for the cantrip extra attack and wizard progression. Between heavy armor and a shield you will probably have a better AC than bladesong anyway, especially in the smaller fights where you can't justify 1 of your 2-6 uses of bladesong. Your concentration won't be as good in those fights, but you have proficiency, mind sharpener, or flash of genius and could get advantage from warcaster. Alternatively, if you choose a species w/ natural armor like Lizardfolk, you could action exit your armor and pair the natural armor with bladesong. Though you won't want to be using a shield [another action to doff] and it's not be best use of your action economy.

I'm trying to battle between that idea and multiclassing into fighter maybe or playing a warforged Armorer Artificer utilizing the Thunder Gauntlets.
