I've not played 5e yet, and grew up on 2 and 3.5. When people talk about 3.5 to 5e the say 3 was convoluted and 5 is very simplified but the class builds people talk about sound very convoluted. Are there really so many options?

Here's two ways U woumd go with Mercy. I call this Way of the Poison Fist. For race I choose Grung. Poison sking and the ability to poison weapons is huge here. So I can potentially poison you in melee and do pouson damage at range. First level is Barbarian. Choise Athletics skill as Rage will give me Advantage on Strength skills like Grappling. Next two levels are Soore Druid. Halo of Soires, Symbiotic Entity are not affected by Rage. Plus I can Create Water for the Grung's daily soak. One level in Ranger will give me Expertise in Athletics. Now we go Mercy all the way from here. The Bonus Action attack or Flurry allow me to keep pace with other players and I have Unarmored Defense. Another nasty version of this is 3-6 levels into Echknight (for 2 ASI) and the rest Mercy and just give the Poisoned Condition via your Echo.

how do you target 3 creatures with command by expending a bardic inspiration? (5:50 timestamp) Also why is it great for action economy?

I'm running a Eladrin elf Glamour Bard. Just hit lvl 6! The combination of eladrin shenanigans and glamour subclass is simply chefs kiss! Highly recommend for anyone! This is my first bard build ever and I'm thoroughly enjoying all the chaos I'm able to cause with my team. Give it a go!!

You might decide to take one Fighter level first at level 1 for Constitution saves, extra armor and weapon proficiencies, and some extra HP. You'll miss out on a skill, but that's probably a winning trade.

I'd have gone either 15/5, 14/6, or 13/7 rogue/fighter myself, first one is for pairing together 15 assassinate damage with a potential round 1 action surge for 4 attacks from extra attack one from an off hand attack and maybe an another attack from provoking an attack of opportunity and if they miss riposte for number 6 for a flat bonus of 90 assassinate damage before sneak attack with a decent chance of downing a random guy but probably not a boss encounter, 14/6 is so you get the 6th level fighter feat alongside picking up devious strikes for pulling off those maneuvers, 13/7 would grant you both the assassin 13 subclass feature and the fighter 7 feature so you know your enemies defenses which is important for your rogue 13 feature, for maneuvers guaranteed picks are riposte ambush (initiative supremely important) and precision

Doesn’t Assassinate only trigger on creatures that haven’t yet taken their turn? I think that means it wouldn’t work with riposte.

1- Warlock are stuck with 5th level spell so warlock cannot cast armor of agathys higher then at 5th level (25HP and 25 damage) their mystic arcanum work comepltly differently and do not allows to upcast spell even more. For that reason you should take only 1 warlock level to grab armor of agathys (then go full caster (like full wizard abjurer) in order to be able to cast it with your highest spell slot. Abjurer also give you a thrid pool of HP that protect your temp HP Wizard with polymorph also work great since polymorph grant HUGE amount of temp HP 2- you need to remember that monster (especially the buffed monster from 2025) at higher level they hit REALLY hard. That 25 temp HP armor of agathys and that blessing of the dark one might very well disappear in a single round preventing you from recharging them quickly. Temp HP do not stack. if you have 5temp HP left from your armor of agathys casting and your ally kill a target granting you cha+warlock level (let"s say 15 HP) you will have only 15HP not 20. you will probably fail to maintain that armor up more then a round at higher level. The wizard abjurer shield, with damage resistance will help keep your armor of agathys up longer, but even then you might still lose the spell quickly. Or 1 warlock level then go full moon druid. Those temp HP from wild dhape will be great

At least Uncanny Dodge can mitigate crits so it will be used in edge cases.

Add in magic initiate wizard for the blade cantrips and blade ward. No spell casting modifier needed. Super charge your sneak attacks, and buff that AC.

Was thinking a level of cleric could do good work here - could get wisdom to int skills, medium armour, shields and so,me useful spells (including bless which triggers yer feature)

It's weird that people even fathom considering sneak attack damage unlabeled mysterious damage.. It's the same damage type as the weapon that dealt it. That's never changed.. It literally just says it's extra damage that has to be done with a finesse or ranged weapon, and that weapon determines the damage type.

honestly i personally prefer on mad builds to simply ask the dm for a perma bound to me amulet of constitution that slowly powers up from just 14 at the start over the campaign with it goes to 16 at level 5 to 10 based on the build and how me and the dm feel that boost in power would affect the balance and than to 18 at 10 to 15 based on the previous choice and yes, i have it go to 18 instead of 19 cause the odd numbers angers me to no end thanks to a weird selective ocd..... beyond that to clerify, when i say bound to me, i mean like i lose that attunement slot for anything else and am stuck with this slowly increasing in power amulet of constitution that half the time techincally isnt even a amulet of constitution as much as an enchantment of constitution made on me from birth or that is a part of something incorperated into me like that one campaign where i had a druid whose heart was replaced with a dryads acorn that grew into the shape of a heart making me the dryads tree and allowing it to siphon its energy from me with a long convoluted story invovling it being my mother who made me to be her power source she could leach off of and her attack dog reiging in and controlling the power of my father whom she captured and fucked to make me specifically cause of his bloodline with i was an archfey warlock who 'got powers from my dryad mother' which in reality was her losing control over me as i grew stronger and the tree that was my heart actually began to bend to my control instead of hers more and more and she went from using my soul like a cup of endless power to drink from to a leech desperately clinging onto me because she lost her acorn and original tree when she made me and would be able to die of old age if she lost control of me let alone what i would do to her...

If you take levels in genie warlock, you can cast glyphs in the genie room and activate them to summon multiple things at once since you can hear in the room the glyphs can hear you aka activatable

I like the idea of doing a lance (topple), pike (push), and glaive (graze). That way you always have reach as well, which can keep you from fully engaging people and allows you to run without provoking opportunity attacks as well. It just sacrifices a small amount of damage to accomplish it.

Can you use stone Goliath damage reduction and deflect attacks at the same time? That would be two reactions

I never liked Armor of Agathys. You get very few spell slots and you are better off using them on temporary hit points

effective hp agaisnt 3 damage types, yes its common but so is fire and poison

i never saw or played an actual game, where the Charakters reach level 20, more like 13-15, would be good to create builds in that level range.

I feel like illusion wizard was also a bit of a miss here. if i understand the feature correctly you can make almost anything you illusion, and you can make that thing real. Put your teamates on the highground, put your enemies behind walls, or in mud. Just make a giant pit and make the pit real (are pits objects?) Heck, just throw everyone under water and let your swimspeed party members go ham. GIVE THE RANGER HIS FAVORED TERRAIN

Please, please don't hate me. I'm brand new to this. Where do you see that a mountain dwarf gets +2 +2? I'd like to do this build but with a goliath or human instead? I don't see anything in the players' handbook about bonuses to anything based on race / species etc...? Could someone direct me to that, please?

I'd go spore druid. It just sounds more in theme with the lizardfolk and controlling the ground while hurting the guy is cool
