Currently running a Harengon peace cleric. Playing him as a natural pacifist and his spell list is oriented specifically to buffs, debuffs, and warding. I gave him the alert feat (rn he’s 6th level and had a +11 to initiative) so he is guaranteed to put his buffs out at the start of every round. Currently love playing him and watching my dm pull his hair out

Problem with the jumping grapple move is that you also take the falling damage, and that causes you to drop prone. After jumping 11+ feet in the air (costing double movement because you are dragging/carrying an enemy) you no longer have enough movement left over to stand up. Very risky.

I have an artificer sniper that uses only int It would never work if I was solo, but as long as the pocket healer keeps the tank alive, and I use cover when I can, it’s pretty deadly Just need to be a battlesmith artificer and make sure you have the repeating shot infusion and the sharp shooter feat

I'd love to see this one in 2024 but right now I don't think it can work in DND beyond. No access to superior technique, elk totem or minotaur race in a compatible way as they mix the new and old books too much for DND beyond to allow the combination

It increases by 5thp and 5 damage per level of the spell slot. With a 5th level slot it gives 25thp and does 25 cold damage per hit until it's gone.

I know you where only using the PHB but if you combine this with 2 levels of warlock for Gift of the Ever-Living Ones you use the maximum value of any dice used to regain hit points, which takes this build to even more ridiculous levels.

How would you build this if wanted to dump strength instead of Dex? the 13str requirement for heavy weapons feels bad

I just wouldn't have fun with a low magic setting. I just do not enjoy playing martial characters. Taking the attack action endlessly until the campaign ends is not my idea of fun.

I don't think this build breaks the game but it probably does break small crowded dungeons full of minions. I couldn't blame the DM for designing much larger dungeons to try to keep the AoA to 2 major combats per casting. I also think tactically it's often going to be correct for the enemies to either focus fire this character to try to drop the spell or just (after a period) refuse to fight this character when they could target another and not take 25 damage. It's a very legitimate target for any dispel effects too. However this is basically true of all true tanks - you force enemies to "all or nothing" you.

Another promising Monk Build is to dip 1 or 2 levels into Ranger for Hunter's Mark, Weapon Mastery (get a Nick weapon), added skills, and a couple extra HP. Get Grappler at 4 and Magic Initiate (Wizard) at 8 (or as an Origin Feat). Get Shield and two cantrips of choice. Shield should bring your AC up to 21-22 for a few rounds during combat. Wielding 2 daggers, you would get 4 attacks, typically doing 1d8 (MW) + 4 (Dex) + 1d6 (HM) and another doing 1d8 + 1d6, or 6 attacks at Lvl 11 monk.

I love these simple powerful builds because some of my players want to feel powerful but aren't quite knowledgably enough in DnD to pull of more complex builds.

Regarding the Bag of Rats "problem"; keep in mind that, while the Bite can be done infinitely as an Attack, it can only empower yourself from the bite a proficiency modifier amount per Long Rest which is 2-6 times a day. Even if you were to do everything to min-max this, you're definitely trading some combination of resources still: - Space. - Carrying Capacity. - Spell Slots. - Food. - Water. - Coins. - Class Resources (I:E Rages) - Stats (Low Strength, Dexterity, Spellcasting Stat) About the only broken thing with the Bite is that you can make the rats Unconscious due to it being a melee attack meaning you don't have to kill your food source, but even attempting to "abuse" this to fish for crits (instead of spending spell slots on Hold Person/Monster), you'd have to compensate with a HUGE amount of rats that's going to tax your other resources.

I wish they would’ve made the eldritch invocations that used to affect Eldritch Blast but now affect any warlock cantrip scale the same way as it does with Eldritch Blast. Like at level 11 Agonizing Blast would be a +5 damage three times with Eldritch Blast but only once with the other ones. Make it so the effect of the invocation occurs for every damage die that is rolled, bringing the other cantrips in line with the damage/utility of Eldritch Blast with a greater risk/reward since it isn’t 3 separate attack rolls or saves. Firebolt would go from 3d10+CHA to 3d10+(n•CHA), where n is the number of damage dice
@tftg4589 күн бұрын
Ok, but temp hit points don't stack right? It always picks the highest amount. So in theory if you cast false life your armor of agathys just drops.
@dirkmagilicuddy51368 күн бұрын
@@tftg458 The old AoA said it drops when "these" THP are gone. The new one ends when you don't have any THP. So even when replaced, you are never completely losing THP, and AoA stays up!
@James-kv3ll9 күн бұрын
Physical Damage reduction pairs well with AoA. If only there was an easy way to get access to that kind of DR easily at early levels and with barely any cost. **Heavy breathing in Barbarian** Just gotta cast AoA before activating Rage. The spell’s duration is long enough to reasonably do this before combat if you have the chance.

Don’t mean to be that guy. But there is a much simpler way to do this lol. The new rules for Druid say that ur wild shape is counted as temp hp… but for higher level, yea this is way better

Polymorph yourself into a giant ape on turn 2 for 154 temp HP! The new polymorph gives you temp hp equal to the beast's instead of replacing your HP with the beast's.

Abuse scribe wizard and take shadow blade but change the damage type and grab crown of stars at higher level. You'll only be able to do one shadowblade so take gift of the chromatic dragon for your offhand and go dual wielder. You'll want a rapier scimitar and shortsword for finesse and then hit up dexterity for AC off of mage armor. For all that fancy fighting either go Battlemaster or Eldritcj Knight for more spells. In fact you should start your build with fighter for con saves. Because you are squishy you should be taking tough as a v. Human (I dont want to do custom lineage). I refuse to suggest bladesinger as lorewise and flavorwise it makes no sense, and the whole "dance of battle" vibe to skirt around the subclass lore with a dumb excuse never really was my style. Reflavoring is okay but never desirable
@natehansen30989 күн бұрын
I made a build in dnd that absolutely abused wither and bloom to the point where I would be able to heal 28/29 hp as a bonus action each round. Plus resistances equates to roughly 60 hp per round

Make it a lore bard and you can cutting words the damage, too. And you can throw in Tenser's Transformation and fire shield if you really want to ruin someone's day. Alternatively, the Clockwork Sorcerer combos really really well here.

Me: Armor of Agathys was already a spectacular spell, how the hell could they have buffed it?! Me after the explanation: My....GOD
@Wouldyoukindly454510 күн бұрын
I'm not saying this is optimal in every fight, but one thing you could do is take a couple hits, pop AoA and Vampiric Touch, and heal yourself up while your AoA absorbs hits. You'd want Fire Shield up first to make those hits you take worth it. You want Fire Shield any way you cut it.
@Haseo13darkness10 күн бұрын
Wouldn’t Archfey be better here? Its spells arent as good but you have so many misty steps that youll never run out of them and refreshing step can give you temp HP. You also have fear step and if you take sentinel you can fear step to somthing and smack it > if it failed the save it disengages on its turn > Sentinel lets you hit them again. And if they pass the save they will just hit into AoA and take damage anyways.

Definitely an option, dealer's choice. Appreciate the other perspective!

It works flavor wise. You don't get a lot of Snow Fairy patrons and it's right there for the taking
@aquartertwo9 күн бұрын
A winter-associated fey patron that lets you conjure armor and weapons out of ice is definitely more in-flavor. Couple that with Guile of the Cloud Giant from Bigby's, and you get resistance from an attack to keep your AoA going

@DnD_Daily Thanks, so that's why you swap out Fiendish Vigor for Eldritch Smite at Warlock 5 - cool! Sounds like a great build for a Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign!
@Wouldyoukindly454510 күн бұрын
@rantdmc Fiendish Vigor *could* still be worth it, if you've taken a few hits to your AoA, and your temp hp is less than 12 and you're trying to top it up. Of course by then most enemies would do well over 12 damage per hit so it may not matter, but that was the idea and it could work well if you have resistance and heavy armor mastery (giving you effectively 24 + 3 x number of hits before AoA drops)
@VER5U52 күн бұрын
@@rantdmcyou will be unpleasantly surprised in Rime of the frostmaiden campaign, when you'll find out just how many enemies will have resistance or immunity to cold damage in that setting. A year ago I played a character with AoA and barely used it seeing my enemies simply ignoring it.
