Hey Olly for the remark about many good metal bands coming from Finland; this might be partial reason: " With 2,825 metal bands listed in the Encyclopaedia Metallum, the figure for Finland works out to 54.3 bands per 100,000 Finns". Meaning that Finland has the most metal bands in the world per capita, Sweden having most by pure gross count at 3 398. To make it in Finland a metal band has to be World Class or more, stands to reason that the ones who make it outside of Finland will blow most of the competition away. Just putting it out there.

More Battle Beast? Oh yeah! So far we totally agree on Nightwish, Sabaton, Beste Zangers, and now Battle Beast. So I feel confident with putting that Powerwolf song on your list in the Discord. But, Battle Beast. They got a bit softer and poppier lately, which is not bad per se, but I miss the energy of the earlier songs. They put on a good show in Wacken 2019. There are many favorites to choose from, I very much like "Out of Control", "Rock Trash", "Let it Roar", "Beyond the Burning Skies" and to throw in more of a ballad, "Bent and Broken"

Thanks, you have found Battle Beast! :-) One more metal band from Finland. Battle Beast is again one of those bands who sounds better in live. And Noora is really active on stage, all the time in move. Noora Louhimo is their second vocalist and she is a real voice beast. Again we have here music educated vocalist : ) . Started in Battle Beast at 2012 replacing original singer Nitta Valo (who is also really good, but she needed concentrate to her family life and that´s why change). Noora has done some awesome covers in live situations, including songs from Janis Joplin, Scorpions, WASP etc. Her Janis Joplin covers are really awesome! Really worth to check out! One WASP member is living in Finland, maybe 5-6 months every year. He heard once that Noora like to do WASP covers and saw it in KZbin. Later contacted her and they made small pub gig... , this is taken from the audience, so not good quality. But Noora...!!! She kills it. Check this out! "Doug Blair (W.A.S.P.) playing Sleeping in the Fire with Noora Louhimo (Battle Beast)" kzbin.info/www/bejne/apO8g2yFprd1mtU Battle Beast has also recorded cover from WASP "Wild Child". Battle Beast guitarist left Battle Beast 2015, until that he made music. Then he founded Beast in Black. And you have heard already their vocalist, his cover from Nightwish Ghost Love Score.

Well, perhaps the band was informed enough of the history of the ninjas and decided to create this black-clad fictional female ninja character regardless. @@satsumaking4635 Ok, I`ve changed a mind - a bit... It`s not bad. But I prefere lyrical voice rather then kind of fallsetto and distortion (if I am correct). Maybe that I don`t like heavy/power metal bands too much... My top female voices are: Floor, Simone, Sharon, Liv Kristine and Vibeke. Which means I love lyrical soprano...
@satsumaking46355 жыл бұрын
Here’s the thing; Falsetto is a widely miss-understood and miss-used term. This specifically relates to the male voice faking the sound of the female head voice which is used for high notes (hence false). This is done by passing air through vocals chords that aren’t fully closed (which is why it doesn’t formally count as a vocal register, whereas head voice does, because this uses full vocal chord closure). The net result is a high, light and breathy sound (Prince is a prime example of falsetto). Noora is a soprano belter (similar voice type to other rock sopranos such as Ann Wilson from Heart) so although she has good vocal skills all around her forte is her high belt range. This is either using chest voice or a mix of head and chest voice called the mix voice. She rarely uses a falsetto sound (i.e. high, light and breathy). Her other distinctive quality is that she incorporates a lot of distortion into her sound. This is what makes her voice such a good match for hard rock and metal songs. The singers you mentioned as your preferences (which I think are all fantastic by the way) primarily sing music that comes under a genre that is called ‘Symphonic Metal’. That is the music you like, I suggest looking for more under this genre instead of powermetal. Symphonic metal vocalists use more of a classical singing technique rather than rock technique. This means a lower or neutral larynx position, clean sound so not much distortion, and most often use head voice for high notes. Thus the sound reminds more of sopranos you hear in opera, because the technique used is more similar. This is not to say that they don’t belt and don’t use distortion, it is just what they use most often to fit the genre. In the same way, Noora can use clean vocals and head voice when the song requires but mainly belts with distortion. That’s how it is I’m afraid, you just simply prefer a different vocal style to the one Noora uses most often. There are so few well known female rock or metal singers, those in the symphonic genre are some of the most well known across rock music because female leads actually dominate this particular genre. Thus, a lot of the singers on best female rock/metal lists actually come from symphonic metal bands, not only due to their own skills but also because they are simply the singers that people have actually even heard of. This fails to take into consideration that a lot of symphonic metal vocals aren’t rock vocals at all, they are classical vocals. This isn’t a serious issue, a good vocalist is a good vocalist and deserves recognition, but this does come from a lack of education or knowledge on vocals. It’s not a bias thing, I’m actually an opera fan so appreciate Symphonic metal and appreciate the quality in these singers, I’m just trying to explain factually what is going on, why you may or may not prefer particular sounds/styles. Anyhow, if your interested in a concise way to get an overview of how Noora sings perhaps just check out the 20 min vocal range vid below, see if any songs sound better to you. It just so happens that the powermetal fans like their latest album less because they incorporated more symphonic elements into it, so perhaps this means those songs would be more to your liking compared too the older songs. If you hear one you like the sound of, tell me the timestamp and I will be able to point you in the direction of the full song if you need. Also note that in this entire vid there are only approx. 3 example of falsetto sound. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2nYeoR7dreJh7c
